We stayed in the Meneau apartment for one week in mid July and found everything to be perfect. The place will keep you cool in hot weather (with the adjunct of a cooler column appliance in case it's really scorching!) and warm during the occasional cool spell. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the crockery, glasses, utensiles one needs and everything is tastefully designed. The bedroom is so quiet and peaceful and the little terrace is perfect for a drink, tea or meals. The stairs in the tower to accede to the apartment give the distinct impression that you are lodging in a small castle. We would definitely return and stay, hopefully for a longer period. A week goes by quickly in La Charité. This is the second year we have stayed in Kelly and Byron's properties and they do a tremendous job not only in offering comfortable accomodations, but in restoring and maintaining the town's heritage. Not to forget the warm welcome and their availability in case there are any questions.
In the heart of the old town and its history, steps from the old town centre shops and small restaurants - its the non-Parisian French experience. La Charite sur Loire is in the heart of many day trips to other great sites in the region from Sancerre, to Chateaus, Canals and great wine country. The suite is roomy and well set up, yet plays homage to its 1490's history. Kelly and Byron are great and knowledgeable hosts who are ex-pats but have been accepted as "locals" so give you great insight to the region and its history and things to see and do.
My husband and I stayed there in Sept. and enjoyed every minute of it. The apartment is well equipped with instructions written in English especially useful when trying to figure out the washing machine. Kelly and Byron are right there if any problems arise and we were shown about town on arrival which was very helpful. Would definitely stay there again.
We really loved the 1000 year old town of La Charite and the Meneau Suite. It is hard to believe that you are staying in a house that was built before Columbus discovered America. Kelly and Bryon were wonderful and helpful Host. We walked all over town and took one day train trips to Nevers and Briare which we highly recommend.
We have rented different Harker gites over the last two years in La Charite sur loires and have never been let down. Clean, well organized, every amenity and convenient locations. And if you are a boob like me with technology, they are always there to solve your problem! A+
