We stayed overnight here on route to Hobbiton the next day and were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The accomodation was very clean and spacious, with modern furnishings and a small kitchen area, complete with ground coffee and cafetiere. Perfect for a short break. There is a supermarket just over the road where you can pick up a couple of beers and some nice (but not fancy) places to eat a short 10 min walk away.
The best part for me was the bathroom which has the best shower ever! The bedroom was lovely and we loved it.
If you are visiting the area or going to Hobbiton, you must stay here. The owners are super people and are so helpful.

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was fabulous. Great attention to detail and could not have been more comfortable, with tasteful furnishings and fittings and a great shower. We loved the place and will stay again.

Stayed for one night before a visit to Hobbiton. The lady we dealt with was very friendly and helpful making a great recommendation for somewhere to eat in town.
The unit was immaculate, very modern, well appointed with an amazingly good bed. We didn't cook in the unit, but the facilities looked perfectly adequate for preparing a simple meal and there was some very nice coffee provided.

This motel is new and its rooms are modern, well-decorated and clean. The bed is hard but very comfortable. The bathroom is wonderful with a large shower and a heating system above the shower that can be turned on/off. Strangely, we were not given any toiletries, not even soap. The cooking facilities are ok, but the supply of cutlery and crockery is quite limited. Most rooms are facing the car park, so the view is not very pleasant. We were shocked that although they say they’ve got Sky, there were only 3 Sky channels with only 1 of them being a movies channel. That’s just not good enough. This motel also lacks BBQ facilities and a pool. So, overall it’s overpriced for what you get.

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon. The place is nice, looks like it has been recently refurbished. We didn't end up using the cooking facilities but they looked to be sufficient. Room is small but still suitable for a couple. The owners were very friendly - we accidentally overslept a bit but they were OK with that.

Matamata is a great little place. We drove around and saw beautiful farms and orchards. Hobbiton is also amazing, I can't believe how beautiful this place is - we would never see anything this green and lush in Australia (it would be burnt up either in a bushfire or just crisp and die because it's so damn hot).

NZ is a wonderful location for families, backpackers, couples or just solo travelling. It can be as relaxed or adventurous as one desires. The scenery is stunning, the roads are straight making it easy to get from one location to another and the people are super, SUPER friendly and hospitable.

I encourage everyone to go to NZ both north and south island to see postcard landscapes and meet the happiest people you probably wouldn't otherwise experience elsewhere.

The owners/managers of this hotel should be extremely proud of the quality of the accommodation. I have stayed in many hotels and I don't think I have ever been in a cleaner room... and that includes my stay in a hotel on the first night it was open!

Our family was so comfortable here. Great beds, plenty of room and just an immaculate place. We had such a great night's sleep and wished we had made this hotel a base for other local activities.

Ideal for anyone staying in Matamata to visit Hobbiton or Coromandel. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms nearest the road may be a little noisy. It didn't matter to us as we were up early anyway.

second time we have stayed here, not as enjoyable as the first time however. wifi policy has changed and you are limited to 400mb and only one device can log in at any one time which was a bit of a pain. Also the couch (sofa bed) in the lounge was very uncomfortable to sit on. Other than that the place was immaculate
