Owner description: The host of 12 New Zealand Opens, Paraparaumu Beach Golf Course has long been regarded by many as the spiritual home of New Zealand Golf. Some of the biggest names in the sport have graced these fairways, from Gary Player and five-time Open Championship winner Peter Thompson through to Corey Pavin, Michael Campbell and in 2002 the worlds number 1 golfer, Tiger Woods.Designed in 1949 by Alex Russell, whose design credits include the world-famous Royal Melbourne golf course, Paraparaumu Beach is considered one of the best links courses in the Southern Hemisphere. Modeled on some of the best links courses of Britain and Ireland, the challenging layout threads its way through magnificent linksland just north of Wellington, and once you’ve experienced it, you’ll understand just why golf played at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Course is golf at its purest.

Good links course on the Kapiti Coast. Helpful staff and very welcoming members who are proud to show you their course.

“Tired Course. Doesn't justify the high green fees ( 150 dollars ) for International Visitors.”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

Management and staff must waken up to the fact that this is no longer a top class golf venue !!!!!
Course itself is very tired and requires a considerable amount of improvements. It needs money spent on it as does the Clubhouse, which to say the least was basic as well as the catering side.
Pro shop staff more interested in watching Coronation Street than serving public. There was a distinct lack of hospitality everywhere!! We've played many other courses in NZ during our 6 week tour and have been made very welcome. Example Nelson Golf Links costing only 40 dollars and a true Links Course with fabulous views and very helpful Pro.

“Great greens, tired club...”
Reviewed 12 December 2013

Formerly a great course and site of several New Zealand Opens. The layout is a fair test, and the greens were as good as we found across New Zealand (both islands!). However, the fairways and facility were a bit "tired" and under-maintained.

Hi Buddy B

Appreciate the feedback and thank you for taking the time to do so. Glad you enjoyed the greens and the world class layout and we will continue to work on the other areas you highlighted. Hope to see you back in New Zealand again at some stage.

Kind Regards

“This remains an exceptional Links Golf Course”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

These guys have got their act together. Following a few years of a clearly tough time after hosting the open, this is better than I have seen it since the "Open". It will challenge any level of Golfer - remember it was the first Course Tiger four putted on after he turned Pro!

The pro-shop is helpful and welcoming - and the green fees are exceptional value for a course of this quality - one of New Zealand's best.

Catering at the club is at the basic end, the bar is functional at an adequate level. The club house is basic - it does the job but you wouldn't visit just to use it!!!

“Terrific New Zealand links golf”
Reviewed 22 March 2013

An excellent golf course; friendly staff; and, an up to date clubhouse.
We played between showers on a rainy day. The fairways were still firm and the greens well manicured. Although there are few trees, straight tee shots are needed to score well. Even then, challenging lies and delicate putts await.
We loved it.
