Over the years (too many) we have often driven past "Greenmantle" wondering and pondering as to what exists behind those imposing wooden gates! Now we have been fortunate enough to discover and explore this property "Big Time". The garden walk, the forest walk were all so impressive. The "Spa" set amongst the Nikau Palms was beyond belief! Our congenial hosts pampered and spoilt us as if we were royalty. An unforgetable experience, one which we will be shouting from the tree tops!

Room Tip: We loved the Tui room.

My new husband and I live in the Kapiti area and came upon this very secluded and private luxury accommodation which we booked to host our intimate wedding with our friends and family. Hosts Ralph and Letizia couldn't do enough for us, every minute detail was attended to. We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxed wedding evening with our guests and the food was superb! The next day was a family day around the pool with a lunchtime bbq. With nothing to do but swim, relax, talk and partaking in some wonderful Italian wines. We felt transported to another location, with the beautifully manicured grounds, forest walk, nature watch (tui, bellbird, rosella, doves, ducks, kereru, monarch butterfly). The accommodation itself within the lodge was beautifully and tastefully decorated, allowed for privacy and tranquility. Thanks so much Ralph and Letizia for playing an instrumental part in making our wedding one to remember!

Room Tip: We had the three lodge bedrooms, all were fabulous allowing for privacy and comfort. Bridal room we...

The Greenmantle Lodge has recently been taken over by the new owners Ralph and Letizia who are overwhelmingly warm welcoming and genuinely interested in their guests. We stayed at the lodge in November 2012 when the huge manicured gardens were in full bloom with doves, a rambling water stream and ponds. Not to mention the lovely lodge, large suites, massive sunny swimming pool and a very private spa tucked away behind the lodge in amongst a nikau forest! Breakfast and Dinner are inspired by Latizia's Sardinian-inspired home cooking served in a magnificent dining room reminiscent of days of olde. Close enough to Wellington but far enough for a nice country getaway. There is also the terrific Southward Car Museum closeby (0.5 km) with one of the best collections of vintage cars in the world. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again in a flash.

What an oasis in a location we had been driving past for years. To discover a nikau forest, sunny helipad, ponds and interesting plantings on a walk through the grounds was particualrly exciting for a gardening nut. A relaxed, luxurious but unpretentious home and the hosts were the same. Letizia cooked a superb Italian birthday dinner for my husband with Italian wines to match. Lovely bed linen (another must have of mine..). Altogether a very successful birthday treat.

Room Tip: We had rooms in the house but toured all the accommodation and I'd like to sleep in all of them.

We were welcomed by mine host as we drove up the winding drive to the imposing lodge. We welcomed in a manner that was to be repeated throughout our stay, warm, gracious, humorous and friendly. The suites were excellent and a delight to enter. The house was beautifully presented and a pleasure to wander in. It was winter, the house warm with seating areas with beautiful garden view, graced by the doves and their dovecotes.
We were served meals with themes of Sardinia, Letitia's home island, which were delicious with the accompanying italian wines of note.
For a special occasion, it is a magical place made so by not just the surroundings but the host and hostess

The host (Martin) was a thorough gentleman who spoilt us rotten with a sumptuously decorated suite, afternoon tea, cakes, elaborate breakfast, intimate spa, restaurant bookings, and refreshingly top class service.

This is well worth the price for those who require a retreat near to Wellington where attention to detail is of paramount importance.

Martin. We shall see you again.

The house is a home, grand without ostentation, very easy to be in, cozy yet elegant and all in pristine condition. The spacious suites overlooking the beautiful pool provide quiet and privacy in excellent well-designed accommodation. They have thought of everything: fabulous bed, bedding, sumptuous bathroom with all the extras you would expect. The garden is gorgeous, providing a tranquil setting to showcase this lovely property.
Vic, (aka Victoria) is the perfect hostess, and a wonderful chef, and we enjoyed her company when we could persuade her to join us. She accommodated our food likes and dislikes, giving us both different food so that we could both have what we liked! The food was of an exceptionally high standard and the wine list provided plenty of choice.
Easy access to Wellington, the ferry, and the Kapiti coast/beaches makes this the perfect place to stay.
