“The moon is out while the palm trees sway and I'm drinking a daiquiri in a secret paradise.”
Reviewed 18 December 2015 for a stay in December 2015

We're into our third week of a month at Schooner Bay, ensconced in the Jib, a lovely house at the end of the island in Schooner Bay. I can hear the waves crashing, a 5 minute walk away. Schooner Bay, on Abaco Island is an incredible secret. There are many houses for rent of all sizes and colours. I love this one because it faces the water with an open view of the harbour out to the sea. You can slip into the harbour off the dock or walk around the island in search of docile stingrays and sea turtles. The house is sweet with comfortable beds, great appliances, beautiful bathrooms and a lovely outdoor space. It's perfect for 2 or 4. We had our two children and grandson with us for a week and that was fine. James Malcolm, of Destination Schooner Bay is an incredible manager and host. The Sandpiper Inn and Black Fly Lodge serve great food. There is an endless beach to the north where the water is calm and warm, great for kids, and to the south an iron shore, yoga platform and another beach where the water can be wild. Marsh Harbour is a 40 minute drive so you will likely want a car unless you stock up on your way from the airport. James can arrange your pick up from the airport and a grocery stop along the way. The house comes with bicycles. There is an organic farm from which you can order vegetables from Tracy (who also manages the store and rents out golf carts- there are no cars in the village). Visit Pete's Pub and Art Gallery 20 minutes away or take the ferry from Marsh Harbour for the day to Hopetown or Green Turtle Cay. Visit Treasure Cay for a change of scenery and beautiful beach. If you like to fish James can arrange an outing or you can book through Black Fly Lodge. Go with Marcus Williams to the Blue Holes, Hole in the Wall, Cross Harbour and more. If you want quiet and beauty, this is your destination. I suggest that if you have particular food you like to eat buy it in your home country. Food is expensive because everything is imported. We are returning annually to write, to retreat, to meditate and just get away from it all....
