Booked from reviews and was not disappointed. Old French style took me from the stress of working life to the laid back Camino life overnight.

200 hundred metres from the Camino in the beautiful town of St Jean Pied de Port

Marie was a fabulous hostess and provided great breakfasts, and lots of knowledge for exploring the Pyrenees. She has amazingly restored the old house to a very high standard. We had a downstairs room at the back overlooking the garden which was perfect. Also very quiet. Its just a short walk to the many cafes in the town. Great location. Fantastic value!

We stayed 4 nights using St jean pied de port as a base for hiking.

Pros : very knowledgeable hostess who gave us great hiking recommendations and lent us maps and hiking guides (in French), clean rooms, fridge for guests to use, laundry service, great outdoor area for dining, convenient location, parking closeby. Table d'hote was great for a convivial dinner, where we got to try the local specialities - they were much better that the restaurant versions! Breakfast was very pleasant, with about 8 homemade jams to choose from. Good place for burgers about 20m down the road !

Cons: very few - the room could benefit from a fan, as it was quite hot at night. Also, I found the bed a bit firm but that can be a personal preference. Some road noise if you are at the front.

This is an excellent choice. We would definitely return.

We had a wonderful time at Marie Josee’s B&B. The B&B is so tastefully decorated and gives you the feeling you are back several hundred years but with all the comforts of the 21st century. It rained a lot while we were there so we cuddled up in the front room with a cozy fire and good books on the area provided by Marie. The breakfast was most tasty with about a dozen of Marie’s homemade jams to put on our French bread and/or croissants. I had mentioned in passing that I liked bananas for the potassium to help prevent leg cramps and sure enough there was a banana at my place the next morning. St. Jean Pied de Port itself is most interesting with ancient narrow walkways, the citadel, and all the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.

We had the great privilege to stay at both Maison Donamaria and Maison Ziberoa while in St Jean. Both beautiful homes. Maison Ziberoa with polished wooden floors, warm communal sitting room and a very spacious bedroom provided a wonderful base to explore St Jean. Marie-Josee was an attentive and knowledgable host and provided the most delightful breakfast

Maison Ziberoa is a one of the most lovely B&B's I've ever stayed in. Marie-Josée could not have been more welcoming and helpful. She has created such a special place in a very special town in the Pyrenees. Every need of a traveler has been anticipated from house slippers to towel warmers to comfortable beds. The breakfast was splendid, and we were fortunate to share a delicious dinner with her other guests. And in cold weather there's even a fire in the sitting room ready to warm you as you peruse her library of art books and Basque history! Marie-Josée is the most charming host and you will enjoy staying with her. We could not have been happier.

Room Tip: Email ahead to book a dinner prepared by Marie-Josée. (no pool - I checked the rating by accident a...

Maison Ziberoa was the perfect start to our Camino, and Marie-Josee was the perfect hostess!
We reserved 2 nights in this wonderfully restored 18th Century home, which was originally a small hospital. This gave us the opportunity to explore St. Jean before embarking on our 800km journey to Santiago de Compostello, Spain.
Maison Ziberoa is a 5 minute walk from the heart of St. Jean. Clean, quaint, and charming, the ambiance is that of a beautifully preserved 18th century manor home, with 21st century fixtures. If this were not enough to recommend Maison Ziberoa, then there is Marie-Josee. She is the Sister that everyone should have! By special arrangement she will personally prepare dinner, which we found to be an exceptional experience. She is a very accomplished chef.
Whether or not you are walking the Camino, do yourself the favor of spending at least two nights in this captivating town, as a guest of Marie-Josee at Maison Ziberoa!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This residence with harmonious proportions and beautiful luminosity owes its name to its slate roof, characteristic to the Soule province. The House anchors near the gates of ramparts of the so picturesque town of Saint Jean Pied de Port, mythical stopping place of the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela (Saint Jacques de Compostelle). From there, within a radius of one hour, you can discover the Basque Coast, make a Spanish escapade or say Hello to the South Peak of Ossau (Pic du Midi d'Ossau). From the entrance, heart of the house, to the pink sandstone paving, flies away the staircase towards rooms. In the early hours, your shutters will open on the garden or on the slopes of the Arradoy covered with the vineyards on Irouleguy. Chestnut wooden floor, whitewash, river shingle walls contribute to a feeling of serene sobriety. In the book corner with patina woodwork, hearts and stars radiate in marquetry, delicate symbol of well being. The big oak table calls for the sharing of a seasonal tasty and simple cuisine. For your hostess, Ziberoa is a story of love at first sight when dicovering EUSKARA's landcapes and culture. They are waiting for you for a day time or for a full life. ... more   less
