“Great value for money - everything you could want from a self-catering apartment”
Reviewed 3 July 2010

I stayed at Solaris with my mother. We arrived very late (2am) and had been told that we would find instructions at the bar. This we did, in fact there were written instructions posted directing us from bar to apartment. The apartment was clean and basic and fine, the only thing I didn't like was the pillows which I found too plump. The swimming pools are great; clean and not too busy.
Location, brilliant - very central. Slightly noisy at night but not beyond 11pm. I found the free wi-fi very handy.
We were allowed to go way over our check-out time on day of departure as there was heavy rain - this I really appreciated as we had nowhere to go in the rain and Kostas came specially to say we could stay as long as we wished at no extra charge.

These apartments are fine if you are traveling with children but I would not recommend this as a "romantic retreat". Costas greeted us when we arrived late which was great but then we never saw him again. The pool bar was open for coffee in the morning but was never open in the afternoon or evenings when you really would like something cold. The rooms that have not been upgraded really need to be. The towels were thread bare and torn and we had to ask to have fresh ones after 3 days as they were not changed when the room was cleaned. This could be a nice place but we saw other complexes that were much better. Location is good for Kasiopi but beware there is no parking and you may end up walking a mile back to the apts. from the public parking..
We were there a bit off season so it was quiet. During the summer months it could be very noisy as most of the apartments face a pool. I didn't like having to pay the whole rent up front a month before arrival as you have no option if you don't like it.

We booked these apartments purely on the reviews we read on this site but we have to say that we were a bit diappointed. We didn't find the staff particularly friendly and welcoming but perhaps that it because we aren't the sort to hang around the bar all day and night.

We arrived at lunchtime and were eventually shown to our studio apartment on the first floor overlooking the side street. As described in other reports the bathroom was very modern for Greek standards but this was marred by the hairs (not of the head variety) that were in the shower plug hole!

The room was dark with a shabby kitchenette and a diry floor. The balcony was a decent size though with a washing line across the front. We hired a safe but had to go and ask for this as we weren't offered this on arrival. The beds were also very hard. You also had to buy your own toilet roll!

There were 2 pools open to the public which were a reasonable size but no slide as shown on their website. In between the pools there was a bar serving snacks during the daytime. We had a baguette there on the first day which was quite nice. They held a quiz once a week which was done by a very nice English guy whose name escapes me but the Greek night was poor. We didn't try the BBQ night as it was cancelled! We got the impression that since Thomson had stopped going there that the standards had slipped.

There was a back way through the apartments to the harbour alongside the house where the owners lived which no-one told us about and we discovered after seeing other people going down it. This was locked at night.

The apartments were well located for bars and shops which you didn't get any noise from but we were unfortunate to be opposite some private Greek apartments which from which a guy went to work at 6am every morning on a very loud motorbike!

Kassiopi itself is a lovely place - only small but plenty of bars and restaurants and a lovely harbour. The restaurants overlooking the harbour were just as good as the one's in the village and we didn't have a bad meal in 11 days.

We went to Corfu town on the bus (not for the faint hearted) which was well worth a visit. We also went to Sidari on the bus which was much bigger and more commercialised but with a nice beach.

We met another couple who were staying at the Theofilous apartments so we went to have a look and would stay there another time as they were much bigger, newer, cleaner and overlooked the main beach.

All in all these were a reasonable price but we felt in need of a bit of TLC

We spent 3 lovely weeks at the Solaris last month. It was our 4th visit so you can tell we must like it.
It is a family run complex and all the family (and Gianni) work so hard to make sure everything runs smoothly, and they are so courteous and friendly. They never have a day off and nothing is too much trouble.
The pool area was always clean and the meals at the poolside bar were delicious-freshly cooked and reasonably priced. I can recommend the Greek omelette!
Our room was nice and airy, overlooking the castle. It was kept very clean-the toilet bin was emptied daily and the sheets and towels were changed regularly thanks to our cleaner Lila. She works so hard. First thing in the morning she is sweeping the pool area, then she cleans the rooms, then later on in the day she returns to help tidy and clean the pool area. She always has a smile on her face and chatters away in Greek!
The Greek night was great especially when Kostas and Gianni got up to dance-they were better than the professional dancers!! Other evening entertainment included an excellent BBQ, quiz nights and the occasional game of bingo.
There are many lovely restaurants in Kassiopi but our favourites were the Strofilia and the Janis.
If you want to go diving you will be well looked after by Angelo at Corfu Divers.
Many of the people staying at the Solaris have been before, which shows how popular it is. We certainly saw many familiar faces.
Keep up the good work Kostas and family. We will be back!

Hmmmm..... this is a tricky one! Well we were told about these apartments by our friends who go there every year. We arranged to meet several other families there all with teenagers. Unfortunately we arrived several days before they did and initially we were'nt impressed. We arrived in the early hours of the morning in total darkness. The taxi driver had to go and wake up Kostas' dad who seemed furious! He threw the door open with not a smile or a word of welcome and i was very upset by this. We entered the room which was gloomy and basic, on the verge of being shabby really and at that point I could've wept. It was 2 bedrroms both with single beds and a tiny dark kitchen with a table squashed in at one end next to a basic bathroom. The beds were VERY uncomfortable. The next day I asked to be moved but in August of course they were full. However no one asked what the problem was or came to explain that a move was impossible. The pools are lovely to look at but the main pool especially turns all your swim wear green. I was told this is not a problem. The yucky toilet bin was not emptied every single day, a few days were missed and our bin got full, not what you need to be worrying about on holiday, other than that our room was kept clean.
Anyway, we sulked and brooded for a few days until our friends arrived then we snapped out of it and had a truly fabulous time! I viewed some of the other Solaris apartments which were much nicer than ours. (room 8) Someone told me that our block is the last one about to be refurbished, I dont know if that's true but I guess we drew the short straw because we booked in Feb. I must say that nearly everyone we spoke to go back year after year after year so it must be me being picky cos everyone else was delighted.
It's in a great area, everything you need just a stones throw away. Despite all the niggles I can see the attraction so dont let my rather negative review put anyone off, we just lucked out on the room. Also take dark coloured bikinis and if your hair is blonde expect it to be lime green at the end of the stay!

Kassiopi is a lovely places with lots of friendly people, good resturants and a generally lovely holiday atmosphere. Food and drink are pretty cheap in the area with most meals (for two people) coming to around 25 euros. All of the resturant and bar staff are very welcoming as were the staff in the Solaris resort itself, who would often have a chat with us. Alongside this Solaris also has a wonderful, refreshing pool and benifits from being set back a bit from the road which means at night we weren't disturbed by bar/resturant nosie. Despite other reviews which comment about the toliet bins not being emptied regularly enough, we found this not to be the case and in fact found our room was cleaned almost every day. Overall my partner and I had a truly lovely holiday and I would recommned Solaris and Kassiopi to both families and couples, its got a bit of something for everyone.

Solaris is an attractive complex located just off the main street in Kassiopi. Although it’s close to all the night life and action, which in Kassiopi is good natured and not too full on, there is no noise at night to keep you awake. You get the best of both worlds! The apartment we stayed in was clean and spacious with a fitted kitchen and a lovely tiled bathroom. The accommodation was of a higher standard than other places I've stayed on Corfu.

The pool was really clean and the surrounding area well maintained. I didn't eat dinner there but the daytime snacks were great. The staff are friendly and I can see why lots of their visitors return each year. There is a nice easy going atmosphere that makes your stay really pleasant and enjoyable. The Greek night was great craic!

Kassiopi is an incredibly picturesque little town which slopes down from the olive groves to a pretty harbour where you can hop on a boat trip to anywhere from Corfu town to Albania. There are lots of great little shops and many restaurants to choose from.

In terms of trips, Corfu town is magical with its ochre-coloured Venetian old town. A bit of a killer if it’s very hot though! Don’t miss Aqualand if you have kids – it’s a superb day out and well worth the 30 Euros entrance fee.

All in all, if you’re thinking of visiting Corfu, Kassiopi has to be one of the most attractive resorts, and you couldn’t do better than stay at Solaris. Just one wee tip - if you’re arriving in the middle of the night as we did it’s worth booking your taxi from the airport through the apartments, as the taxi driver will show you to your rooms, there being no one else around in the wee small hours!
