“Yes it does have steep access but the views are worth it”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

Just back from the Lofos today and yes, the access is steep. I have asthma and on a couple of occasions, did struggle to get as far as reception in 1 go.

However it is clean and comfortable though whilst the studios are large, the kitchen area in them is about the most basic you can get so don't expect to actually 'self cater' in one

You get a sink, a fridge, a 2 ring hob and an electric kettle with the most basic cutlery set possible along with 2 pans you can't fit on the hob together.

The official rating is 2* from the Hellenic Tourist board, not the 3.5* indicated by Olympic.

However the snack bar in the pool area offers good, fresh home made food at good prices so why cook for yourself?

The home made beef burgers are fabulous and the chips are real chips where someone has peeled the spuds and cut them. Not the usual frozen variety........

The beds are comfortable enough but the shower rooms are typical Greek where everything gets wet, despite the shower curtain

The towels are changed twice a week and are old and worn with some having holes or ragged edges. The beds are changed once per week.

Safety deposit boxes are 7 Euro a week and the Air Con can be had for 35 euro a week, or 60 euro a fortnight

Top Tips:

Buy your water from the snack bar, don't bother carrying it from the village up that hill...

Get your sandwiches for the flight back from the snack bar. They are happy to make whatever you want at half the price of the airport snack bar.....

I stayed this hotel second week in May 2012. I know Corfu reasonably well and in particular the aptly named 'Kensington-on-Sea' NE coast strip between NIssaki and Kassiopi. I have lost count of the number of times I have stayed in Greek self catering accommodation .... so I know what to expect. Lofos is first class if you want basic, clean, well -serviced accommodation, in a delightful elevated spot with panoramic views overlooking the village and the sea beyond. The room was more spacious than many Greek accommodations and the bathroom even had a shower curtain and a tiled shower surround .... an unexpected luxury! Room service was excellent.
A tip to other guests. You are situated adjacent to one of the most beautiful stretches of Mediterranean coastline where the rich and super - rich [yes Rothschild as well] have villas just down the coast from you, with views like yours from Lofos. Try walking south from Kassiopi to San [Agios] Stefanos around the delightful bay of Avlaki. With any luck you will see the occasional tortoise, turtle or harmless large snake! Or hIre a car and go a bit further afield to Kalami, dropping in at the picturesque harbour at Kouloura on the way. Take a boat ride from Kassiopi to Corfu town and see the whole NE Coastline. In Kassiopi have a wander around the castle/hill fortress olive grove which gives some super views in all directions. In other words try to get out and about and explore the whole area .... you may be missing some real treats.
Two final thoughts. Firstly this pensioner thinks that so-called 'cardiac' hill will leave you fitter and healthier by the end of your stay. Secondly ignore the reviewer below who thinks that the smallish Lofos pool area surround is suitable for 3 lads to play football amongst the other guests for two weeks and moans when the owner put an end to it.... its not. Why not take the boys out to experience a bit of real Greece or a decent beach with plenty of space?

My Husband had not been to Greece before, I had been to Zackinthos Rhodes and Kefolonia in the past and we decided to try Corfu as a last minute deal for my Birthday. We are so glad we did. We arrived late at night and our Olympic travel rep showed us to our room, after a rubbish flight and late night arrival at the Apartments we were tired and a little fed up after carrying our cases up such a steep incline. When we were showed to our room on the 2nd floor the rep said wait until morning then look out of your room and you will forget everything about the flight etc. He was right we were on the 2nd floor looking out to the pool but not only that the panoramic view we had from our balcony was 2nd to none. We could see the sea and across the sea to Albania also from which ever angle you looked there was picturesque views.
Our room was clean and tidy and came with a double bed ,fridge cooking equipment and a 2 ring hob. Only 1 thing that could be seen to be a negative there was not really anywhere to prepare food. Only the draining board. We wasn't planning on preparing many meals though so it wasn't really much of an issue. We started of getting our own breakfast but within a couple of days we were having a lovely breakfast cooked for us in the little bar/restaurant down stairs next to the pool. There is also lots of great Tavernas in the town that do breakfast. The pool was gorgeous and I used it every day to try and swim my breakfast off. the owners Spiros and Pipitasas are really lovely and friendly and they did a BBQ evening with Greek dancing and singing that went down very well. We plan to go back to Corfu one day and will definitely go back to the Lofos Apartments.

Room Tip: If you want a spectacular view go for the 2nd floor facing the pool. there is also a 3rd floor which...

My husband and I stayed at the Lofos the first week in Oct 11. On arrival we were shown to our studio apartment room 307 right next to the restaurant/bar and poolside. Our first thoughts were to asked to be moved as our terrace would be the thoroughfare of fellow guests. Never make a hasty judgement after a tiring jounrney once settled on the terrace we had time to soak up the views, absolutely unspoiled vista of the sea and Albania straight in front of us. With the Lofos lofty position ( yes the hill is a killer, but worth it!) you are truly spoiled with the fabulous views. Our apartment though small had a large and comfortable double bed with sink, fridge and two ring hob. The only negative was that they provide you with a plastic drainer board for dishes but there is no work surface to put it on and if you are like me and only 5ft 3" you will have no chance of reaching above the sink to the crockery cupboard! All of this is a minor irritation that the views and friendly welcome more than make up for.A beautifully maintained complex with very friendly staff, Lena keeps the apartments spotless and the Greek salads at the pool bar are first class. I would highly recommend this Hotel and will certainly visit again.

Just returned from 1 week. Stayed in room 305 which is two rooms from the pool bar on the ground floor - that put me off initially until we saw the room and location. There is enough privacy to not be put off with this location at all. No balcony, just a terrace overlooking the baby pool and larger pool. We travelled with an 18month old and were concerned about the size of the apt because we have always booked a 2 bed apt previously to fit in the cot/bags/paraphernalia but the apt was very large and perfectly adequate. Yes, self catering facilites are basic (2 electric rings, 2 pans, kettle, loads of cutlery/plates etc) but we managed to cook breakfasts and lunches without problems.
Owners Spiros and Pipitsas very child friendly, they made a fuss of our little boy and didnt mind his regular wanderings holding our hand through the pool bar - we didnt buy food every day and they still didnt mind, shaking his hand, shouting "hiya" and "yasou" and introducing him to Pipitsa's elderly mother!
The cleaner also made a fuss of him and was very friendly and did a good job. For once we got more than 2 tiny loo rolls in our s/c apt!
Everywhere was very clean, well kept, food at pool bar was good and competitively priced. Daytime staff very friendly, and free wifi connection available.
All in all, even including the very steep hill (described by one of the older residents as cardiac hill) we would go back tomorrow.
Despite another review saying the owners are not child lovers I think they are but they want children to behave to prevent any other residents becoming upset - personally I dont mind this type of attitude at all.
There are lots of lovely restaurants in Kassiopi, we have been 4 times now. Porto (at the port) is good with a limited menu, Strofolia on the main street is a winner - food is fab with a quieter vibe, Castello also very nice. Room 306 which was round the corner from us has a bigger area outside the front could be better for those travelling with children to give some area to play on the terrace outside the room.
Overall, a definate winner for me.
Oh, also, a few days were a bit cool and we bought food at lunch time from the pool bar and the staff brought it round to our room so that we could eat inside with our little boy. They could not have been more thoughful.
(Air con costs quite expensive - 45 euro for a one bed apt for the week - excellent quality air con though, one unit in each room which can be independantly set and were almost silent)

Room Tip: Room 304/5 and 6 all face the sea but are ground floor next to the pool bar (if that puts you off) a...

My wife and I went to Lofos in September 2011. We were pleasantly suprised by our room, although typically greek it was better than some we have had. Twin room overlooking the pool even though we asked for a high room ??? Seems they place you where there is a vacany (turned out good for us) Clean and tidy with lots of space. Linen and towels changed twice during our stay. Kitchen was twin ring (as always) we had lots of glasses, cups, crockery, cutlery etc, we even had a kettle. Twin beds were very hard with typical budget mattresses - always woke with backache. The shower was also typically Greek, hot or cold depending what time you got a shower but usually enough hot water to go around. But generally very pleasant and of a good standard. The only annoyance was people walking past throughout the day, although, we where out most days so didnt find this a problem but, if we had chosen to sit outside our apartment it would have felt intrusive with all the comings and goings. Luckily we had a nice Scots couple next to us who had the same "chilled out" attitude. Most of the time it was quiet and relaxing. The Lofos is situated above and overlooks the town with lovely views across the Ionian sea to Albania. Standing/sitting at the veranda edge by the pool was a lovely chance to ponder and relax after a hard day or before the day starts. Previous reports of "the hill" are not exagerated, its about 30 meters up from the gate to room areas. If you have health or mobility problems you might find it a bit of a task getting up it. Also the "barking dog" reported is still there. There is a local family just below the Lofos with 2 dogs on their balcony, if you are on the front in the lower apartments you will be disturbed by them occasionally and the odd mongrel wanders up and joins in. In fact, Kassiopi seems full of barking dogs and crowing cockerels whom have no sense of time! These are just the obvious niggley points I would like to report to users. However, all in all the Lofos is a very nice place to stay and situated in the right place. The owners and staff where always pleasant and courteous, never intruding but always on hand. The pool area is very nice and kept spotless with enough sun loungers to go around etc (though some couples did the old "get up early with your towel tricks" to bag a bed) even though there was no need. They have a pool bar the does food/drink etc up until about 19.00hrs and it never got noisy or rowdy whilst we where there. Its also literally a couple of minutes stroll to the town and harbour where you have a choice of tavernas, bars. Try boat hire from "Phillipos boats" by the harbour. We had a great time here relaxing and doing our own thing. I would recommend it to most people except the elderly, its a bit of a hike "going for it" up the hill.

Room Tip: Take earplugs ? and mosquito repellant, you may want the earplugs if you are near the dogs, but you...
