“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

Just returned from 10 days at the Alkyon Hotel and was very pleasantly surprised. On arrival we were disappointed as our room was very small but they changed it to a larger one the next day with no trouble at all. Breakfast was pretty basic (although you can get a nice English breakfast for 2 euros) but adequate but the evening meals all week were fantastic (we were expecting to eat out but ate at the hotel every night as there was plenty of choice even for my very fussy husband!). Soups especially were gorgeous and staff couldn't do enought for you. Sidari itself was pretty quiet but only to be expected in mid-Sept. Would definitely return to the Alkyon again.

Just returned from Alkion Hotel, went with 2 of my sisters and had a good time, found the Alkion to be nice and clean was in room 322 on the top floor the room had 3 single beds in as requested and seemed freshly decorated and quite roomy , not a noisy room the view was good apart from being over part of the car park/refuse bins, there was no smell at all from the bins which was good. Food was quite good, but there was no fresh fruit available at breakfast only tinned, one of my sisters has a dietry problem and could only eat white chicken meat which was not a problem and they couldn't be more helpful and cooked it fresh for her every evening.

On the downside, I have never slept in such an uncomfortable bed in all my life, they were very hard and my sister and I came home with sore painful backs ,also the sun loungers have a metal support which when you wanted to lie down was very hard and uncomfortable as well. The glasses from the bar had a few lipstick marks on them, they didn't seem to be washed properly, staff friendly. Return journey was O.K.until we reached Corfu airport, complete chaos, lots of people, lack of organisation and quite a delay the airport is very small. Have been to many places in Europe for holidays and found Corfu not to be my favourite, I suppose each to their own opinion, would not return to Corfu again. Be careful when you go out along the strip where the shops/bars are as there are a lot of pot holes, all the shops much of a muchness nothing different.

Room Tip: We asked when booking to be on top floor over looking pool, but only got top floor, when looking at...

We went to Corfu expecting the hotel not to be that great as we had paid so little and it was only 3 star, but we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel itself is lovely and the pool area is very good. We were half board and the food was very tasty with a good choice every night. There were six different main courses with a choice of three sides, but dessert was a little disappointing with a choice of jelly, ice cream or two specials. We had to pay 43 euros to have air conditioning and a safe for the week which was a bit disappointing. The rooms are very basic, especially the bathroom, but are very clean and have everything you need including a hair dryer. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect as it is opposite the beach and near to the main strip, but just far enough away to not be disturbed by the noise on a night. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel. We will definitely stay here again for the price we paid. If the rooms and bathroom were modernised it could be 4 star

We've been recently to Corfu Greece acommodated in the above mentioned hotel between the 8th to the 15th of Sept. this year. I strongly reccomend Greece, especially the islands, sometime beginning of June mid September due to the mild heat ( 18 to 27 C ). The Hotel overall is decently well located at the edge of the Sidari City Center and very close to very nice sandy beaches as stated in the advertisments.
On a BB basis, breakfast is reasonable, somewhere between French Continental and Half way through full breakfast ( hardly any fresh fruits )
The problems will arise at night when tiny little persistent ocasional mosqitoes comes up and spoil your sleep giving you serious nasty bites. The local authorities find more conveniant and more profitable to sell insect repelant and anti-mosqitoes devices than spraying the vegetation accordingly pretending that the tourists will be " poisoned " or God knows what !

Hotel was great from first moment to last, reception staff were superb, always willing to help. food great, especially wide choice of evening meal. Considering it was a hotel, the bar prices were ok, especially in 2 happy hours each day. just far enough away from main strip to have a very restful nights sleep. Plenty of sunbeds. Mosquitoes were a nuisance, but that is not the hotels fault, as they had air conditioning in all public areas and after all we were in Greece.
Because we were close to strip we went down there most nights to see tribute acts, but the night we did stay in, the entertainment was good. I can see why many people come back to this hotel, and when we come back to Sidari, this will be my first choce

Room Tip: bring plug in mosquito killers with you. they are expensive to buy in Sidari,

Returned yesterday after two weeks at the Alkyon Hotel with my husband, from 9th-23rd September, negatives first ! We were first given room 221 which was dark, depressing and small, the shower only had a curtain not a cubicle, we asked to be moved asap on the Monday, by Thursday we were given a lovely spacious room with a sea view and large balcony. Food, breakfast fine, two types of cereal, toast, continental breakfast, croissants, tinned fruit, yogurt, Evening meal, good variety of food, well cooked,on the occasional evening the food did get samey, but always something to eat, but the desserts were a joke, jelly, creme brûlée, grapes and melon every night, you had to ask for ice cream and cake when available, which meant Maria would go to the kitchen and get it, leaving you waiting around ?! Also have to pay for evening drinks, we were half board so this was knew to us, the drinks are expensive. The restaurant is open planned, windows and doors open because of the heat, this letting in plenty of wasps and flies, especially a problem during breakfast where we were plagued by them. There is only a ramp leading into the hotel, you have to carry your suitcases up four or five steps to get to the lift. The entertainment some nights was very poor, in a two week stay there was Bingo three times, perhaps more.... We would take a stroll down the strip.
Good points, the lunch is not that expensive and had a different meal day every day, but a lot of people would get filled rolls and drinks from the strip which was a lot cheaper. The pool was lovely but very cold, there is a choice of two pools, the jaquzzi wasn't open during our stay, it was only small so we didn't bother asking why, plenty of sun beds, lovely grassed area. The staff are helpful, especially Super Mario and the lovely Greek evening receptionist who always had a smile.
I would not recommend this hotel, the majority of the staff are very good at their job, but because there are far too many negatives with the hotel and with Sidari itself, the beach is a strip of "sand", can be dirty and polluted, the strip of bars and restaurants where you are at times hassled to go in and there are too many tacky tourist shops, cannot recommend Sidari, but Canal d' Amour was stunning once you cross the sewage bridge. Corfu town was an absolute gem.
A strip of beach and tacky shops, does not make a resort.

On the whole, I would not recommend Sidari or the hotel.

Room Tip: If you do not like your room, ask on the first day to be changed asap, there is ice cream and cake a...
