We travelled from Kubu Cabins, 20 km west of Livingstone to Gwabi Lodge, all different road conditions ranging from potholed- to brand new tarred- and horrible gravel roads. It is doable, but ensure that you leave early not to miss the beautiful mountain scenery just before Chirundu and arrive before dark. We left late, were delayed in Livingstone due to ATMs being out of order, had a breakdown and only arrived at the Lodge at 21h30. We send an sms to the lodge to let them know that we would be late and subsequently received a phone call to ensure that we were ok - it is much appreciated to know that people care! The next day we did an awesome day canoe safari, down the Kafue River and into the Zambezi. Our adrenaline levels rose when charged by Hippos, but with Nicolas our guide we felt safe at all times. This is an experience not to be missed! Lake Kariba is only about 100km away from Gwabi Lodge a day trip to Kariba is well worth it. We camped at Gwabi Lodge for 3 nights, beautiful campsites right on the river. The ablution block needs a bit of maintenance, but it was spotlessly clean. Thank you Tony for your help with the planning of our trip, and Nicolas for the memorable canoe safari!
