We stayed in Valkarana for a week in June and staying there just added that extra something to our holiday! It was our first time to Sardinia and the reality was better that our already high expectations. We travelled from Alghero airport and arrived mid afternoon and though they weren't serving food at the time they immediately organised a sandwich and coffees/ that was a good start after our journey on Sunday morning! Service was excellent throughout. Staff were fantastic/ very friendly and helpful. The owner/ manager has to be the epitome of Sardinian friendliness......I had brought the wrong charger for my phone and he went to great lengths to get one for me...he didn't have one in the hotel but went that extra mile and was so courteous, friendly and good humoured at all times.
We had breakfast every day and ate lunch and dinner some days there. Food was of a very high standard and enjoyable.
Room service was excellent ...sheets changed regularly ( even in our one week stay) lots of hot water and a seating area outside where we could chill and read our books/ beautiful clean pool and deck chairs also. A lovely restful location and great point from which to travel to chek out the sights around. Lots to do.... a week isn't really enough.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Valkarana for a week at the end of May/beginning June 2013 and we had such a lovely time. The location is so peaceful - you feel miles away from anything - but it is within easy drive of the coast and other sites around the north of Sardinia. The service is professional but also friendly and relaxed - we got to know Salvatore (the owner) and Roberto during our stay and they really look after you and are clearly proud of the hotel, which is pretty unique. The restaurant is great, with fresh, well-made local cuisine and they had a pizzeria at the weekend, which was a nice change. There are also some other nice restaurants nearby - La Patraia in Sant'Antonio and also Agriturismo La Kustera just outside(we stuffed ourselves silly!)

The rooms are fairly basic but clean and nicely decorated - we had a lake view which was amazing. We pretty much had the pool to ourselves and again you've got a fantastic view of the lake.

We would definitely recommend Valkarana if you want to get away from it all in beautiful surroundings - we didn't want to leave!

There are superb panoramic views of the lake from this family built, family run hotel which offers fantastic food, stylish accommodation and great value for money. In a beautiful setting, the Valkarana is a real " get away from it all" retreat, and although it is quite remote, it is well signposted and is a great base for exploring Northern Sardinia. There is a warm welcome from Salvatore and his staff who ensure you have a really enjoyable stay. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are clean and comfortable, in fact all the hotel is immaculate. We found there was great attention to detail in everything. We thoroughly enjoyed eating in the restaurant with lovely food, excellent service and a wonderful view of the lake! There was plenty of choice at breakfast and the evening menu was varied and always included some delicious seafood dishes. Staying at this hotel was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday in Sardinia. We were impressed with everything about the Valkarana and plan to return in the near future.

Room Tip: Lake view de-luxe rooms are really nice and are also near the lovely pool area.

we found this beautiful place quite by chance online and got the last room.

There is nothing bad to say here,as Salvatore and his team have built a family run hotel that puts other 4 and 5 star accommodation to shame.

If you want noise, late night partying and loud music, don't come here as this is a place to get away from noise, city life and modern distractions.

From the view from the dining room overlooking the lake, to the single toot of the local train mid morning,to Salvatore and his cheerful persona,no matter what time of day or how late he had been out ( especially after Italy beat Germany in the European Championship Semi Finals!).

Super food, relaxing times, peace and quiet and a small and very uncrowded swimming pool and lounging area.

The rooms are cool and welcoming and not cluttered with too much unnecessary furniture and stuff, with a wonderful shower and bathrooms.

Thank you Salvatore and Clementina and everyone at Valkarana, for making our stay truly spectacular and were sorry it's taken nearly a year tell everyone on here!

This was our first trip to Sardinia and The Hotel Valkarana was an absolute gem of a base to explore the North of the Island.
All the staff were extremely helpful and Salvatore in particular was very friendly and approachable.
The room itself was really clean and comfortable with a great view out onto the lake.
We can 100% recommend this hotel if you're looking to stay a in a quiet and tranquil location slightly off the beaten track.
We will definitely be back in the future.

We had two fantastic weeks at ValKarana and could easily have stayed for two more. For us the ValKarana was pretty much perfect. The setting is fantastic and even better than the photos on the web show - its so quiet and serene.

The hotel was very quiet when we were there which was perfect for us. The location is great for walking and there are tracks the the lake, up to the hills and along the little-used scenic railway tracks - all of which we were totally alone on when walking. Relaxing by the pool was good as was the rest of the hotel. Everything was spotlessly clean which was very nice to see.

The food was very good, although note that you may need to pace yourselves as it is pretty much the same menu for lunch and dinner each day. That said it is a good selection and the pizzas (available on Thursday-Sunday) are really good ... I still lust after the Napoli pizza which was quite simply the best pizza I've ever had! I thought the food and wine was very reasonably priced too.

It was nice to be close to wildlife too and we had close encounters in the countryside with wild tortoises, praying mantises and even a little scorpion.

Finally Salvatore the crazy hotel manager - he simply made staying at the hotel so enjoyable, always available, always interested in his guests and always happy to chat if you were - a real gent and we miss him!

Positives:
Peaceful and beautiful setting
Cleanliness
Friendliness of staff - Salvatore the Hotel manager is fantastic
Napoli pizza is the best I've ever had!

Negatives:
Nothing of any significance. It would be useful if WiFi was extended into the rooms rather than just in the main building.

A wonderful ho9tel in a beautiful setting in the mountains. The most relaxing holiday ever - great food, amazing scenery and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Salvatorre, the owner, Roberto on reception and all the staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had a great holiday. You do need to hire a car - it's a fair way from any towns in order to visit other places, but just staying at the hotel and enjoying the incredible views is relaxing in itself. We also recommend a boat trip on the lake below!

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room so you have a view of the pool and the lake!
