“All you need and more”

I can't remember when was the last time I came back so relaxed form a weekend. Glow provides everything one needs to recharge and refresh. The setting is stunning - a lush tropical garden right by the sea, next to a lovely strip of white sand beach. The sunset viewed from the beach or from the bungalow terrace already make the trip worthwhile.

The rooms are clean, tastefully decorated and comfortable. I especially enjoyed the big, wooden terrace with a bathing tub and the outside shower.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. I live in Thailand and I know quite a lot about different kinds of Thai smiles but the ones I encountered in Glow were genuine and friendly. The waiting staff in the restaurant has a bit to learn but whatever little they lack in skills, they make up for with friendly, generous attitude.

And then there is food - the Thais dishes prepared by chef Scott are a level up from any other traditional Thai delicacies I tried in Thailand. He sticks to the authentic recipe, uses local produce and proves all over again that Thai cuisine is among the world's best. The seafood is amazing - you can actually see it being unloaded by the fisherman on the beach. There is some great western choices too but I believe in eating locally.

Talking about locally. The Yao Yai island let's you glimpse the authentic, rural Thailand with a lovely, colorful Muslim twist. Fisherman villages, rubber tree plantations - well worth exploring.

In short - I wish I could stay longer....

If you need rest, a getaway, a break - Glow Elixir is the place to go.

It's known to the locals more as just "ELiXIR", not 'Glow'.

An hour flight from Bangkok to Phuket, then another 25 minutes to Phuket's Bang Rong Pier. There's probably an hourly boat trip (200 baht per person on a speed boat) from Bang Rong to Klong Hia pier of Koh Yai Yai's. The last one would be at 5.30pm. Quite convenient. You can ask the hotel for a transfer from the pier which would take about 40 minutes.

All the staff were so friendly. We've got Khun May who welcomed us at the front office with such a friendly manner. Unfortunately, Chef Scott was away for the Iron Chef contest. Too bad, we didnt get to try his cuisine.

The resort resembled Moo Ban Talay in Koh Samed, Rayong. I'm sure there must be some correlation, definitely!

Room no. 131 was a perfect location for us. Right by the pool, got the seaview at the rate of 'superior'. Value for money.

This is an unpretentious, quaint little resort. It's tucked away with it's own beach - can trek the rocks with locals for starfish, hermit crabs, and other creatures during low tide, or practically step from the resort into the turquoise waters at high tide.

3 days is all you need to unwind, soak up some sun, and recuperate. We did all the main activities - cooking class, local craft class, and village tour. The chef was enthusiastic to share his knowledge introducing us to local ingredients, and helping us cook a green curry. In the craft class we learned how to make fish out of palm leaves (just like the locals make for babies in their cots). The village tour was informative - we learned about different varieties of plant species, the way locals live on Koh Yao Yai, and visited a secluded beach where mothers were trawling rocks with their kids for octopus and clams.

The rooms were very romantic - my favourite was the outdoor shower - I've never experienced anything like it before. There was fresh incense, oil burner and candles in the room each day. The hotel staff were friendly, food in the restaurant was great. Facilities were basic, but enough if your sole purpose is to relax and unwind. You can also hire a motorbike for 250 THB for half a day and ride around to different fishing villages and secluded beaches.

Cons:
- It took a long time to get there, being on the other side of the island to the pier. It does though allow you to see much more of the island and the way the locals live.
- Breakfast buffet offerings was limited, but they have two complimentary a la carte options (American and Thai) which was more than sufficient.
- The beach at low tide exposed rubbish, which was unfortunate. The resort does clean up each day, but it's a shame that you can't escape it. I blame the more touristic islands like Phuket for what ends up washing up.
- Value for money is good, but you don't have a choice but pay comparably a lot for transfers.

Room Tip: All rooms are standalone and therefore quiet. Rooms along the beach have a private plunge pool and a...

We stayed for 3 nights with our two young kids, 6 and 2. This is not the place to stay if you want a kids club etc. We took our kids out exploring, soaking up the culture of this undeveloped island for entertainment. It was so lovely to come back to our room after a day out, it just felt like home. Anyway - I was blown away by the hospitality of Glow Elixir, especially chef Scott who runs the AMAZING Thai cooking classes. Yum!!! Thanks guys for a wonderful time - we recommend anyone stay and leave Glowing :)

Excellent service and beautiful location would perfectly define this resort. As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed by the manager, Gino, who explained the facilities and the activities options at this little paradise. He was followed by chef Scott, who made sure that the whole kitchen was aware of our food preferences. Gino and his staff kindly took us to our room, which completely exceeded any expectations that we had. For example, the mosquito net around the bed, outdoor shower, quality beauty products and perfectly clean room, were the excellent introduction to a beautiful and memorable vacation. Our terrace had a great view over the resort and private beach. The pool was cleaned every morning. Overall, fantastic facilities for a 3 star hotel!!
Just to add on the quality of service - when we booked a tour around the village (free of charge), Gino personally took us around and shared some very interesting stories. In the end, we felt couple of mosquito bites and he immediately went to the village to buy some local relief oil and kindly offered it to us, free of charge.
We spent an amazing honeymoon at Elixir Glow and would warmly recommend it to anyone looking for a little gateway to heaven.

We would like to thank Gino, Chef Scott and all the staff who made this stay an unforgettable experience!

Lucie and Aleks

Dear Khun Syfon,

Wow!! Thank you for such complimentary remarks. We are elated to hear that you had another terrific stay with us! Our staff is truly our greatest asset and we are so happy that you felt well taken care of.

We love your view about our little resort as an ideal hide away destination, especially during the beginning of the green season. As you said, this can be ideal for the traveller who simply wishes to avoid the crowds during the high season. And of course, it is always refreshing to get away to the beach, to the privacy and to the seclusion during a short escape from our every day’s hectic life.

We appreciate you taking the time to write this review. Look forward to seeing you again soon :)

Our family spent 4 memorable nights in this wonderful resort. After two days in busy Patong Beach we needed a place to relax and spend some time seeing the real Thailand. And it didn't disappoint. We were lucky to have beautiful weather during what is normally the wet season, so that helped. Not to mention the complimentary upgrade to the villa with private pool as it was low season. The villa overlooked the resort and ocean, was spacious and well appointed with a rustic feel to it, and had large outdoor private area. The outdoor shower was a buzz. The facilities were very good at the resort with a modern restaurant and beach side dining, well maintained gardens, pool and massage area. The beach was clean and best to swim at during high tide. Although the restaurant meals were a little on the expensive side with few other local options for dining out, the menu was interesting and comprised very tasty dishes. The chef Scott was very friendly and obliging, and prepared to cook other items not on the menu, or cook up fresh ingredients we purchased from a local fishing village. In fact, it was the friendly staff that really made the stay a highlight. There were very few people staying at the resort and so we got to know the staff quite well. The manager Gino was excellent in every respect and was the perfect host for our family. He organised all transfers to and from the island plus a couple of day tours. All were good value, well organised and ran to time. Well done Gino! And make sure you ask Gino to have Bungsit as your tour guide. He has lived on the island all his life, practically knows everyone, and showed us the real culture of Thailand. There was nothing he wouldn't do for you to make your stay as memorable as possible. Great holiday destination and highly recommended.

Dear Eric_S,

I am so glad that you and your family had a great GLOW time during 4 memorable nights at GLOW Elixir Koh Yao Yai and thank you so much for your kind review!

We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your upgrade to our gorgeous Deluxe Pool Villas including all resort facilities and the other aspects during your stay. Thanks to the beautiful sunshine days despite of the rainy season. As I shared with you during your stay, there can be periods of many several days that are dry, and when it does rain it is very unusual for it to rain all day. So simply set your mind free, enjoy your holiday as we can always turn a rainy day into something fun!

Thank you once again for sharing your wonderful memories at Koh Yao Yai with other readers here. Chef staff, Bang Sit, I and my entire team are very delighted to have been able to make that experience much more wonderful and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back soon.
