“Great place for peace and tranquility”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2013 via mobile

We arrived at the pier in Koh Yao Yai by longtail boat as dusk fell and the approach was magical. A taxi to Esmeralda View was easy to find and although late, we were welcomed by Pond, the proprietor and shown to our sea view bungalows on stilts looking straight out over Phang Nga Bay. Rooms were clean and beautifully presented, one with an outdoor shower room. There was a fridge with complimentary water supplied daily and the beds were enormous and comfortable. Pond helped us to arrange a tour of the island and lent us beach towels although the water on Koh Yao Yai was not as good for swimming as other islands that we visited. The papaya salad demonstration was fun and the food was great. This is a friendly and quirky resort which we would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet visit to a beautiful island.

We didn't make a reservation here but got the last villa when we arrived. The staff is super friendly, all cottages have great sea views. We rented a motor cycle to tour through Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi. It's located pretty convenient to see both.

We had the great pleasure of staying at this perfect place during our 3 week vacation throughout Northern and Southern Thailand. Already calling Miss Pond to ask about vacancies was very delightful. Even through the phone you feel the welcoming warmth and happy spirit we were about to experince a few hours later upon our arrival. Pond runs this treasure together with her family and that is exactly what makes it feel so special. You don't feel like just another guest but instantly like a family member.
The setting is gorgeous - from the grand veranda where you can dine and chill you have the most astonishing view over the bay of Phang Nga with all its beautiful islands. This makes you not want to leave for your room but then you are suprised a second time. Set on the green and foresty family grounds there is a numerous choice of beautifully created wooden bungalows, some with a similar asronishing view as from the veranda. The bungalows are very clean and spacious and some even have an outdoor bathroom.
Some chicken run around the grounds having a wonderful free and happy life until one or the other ends up as your delicious home-cooked thai dinner, thoughtfully prepared by Pond's mom. The same goes for the daily caught fresh fish from the bay.
If you ever wondered whether there is a place inThailand where tourists can experience a real thai breakfast with great sticky rice with mango or rice noodle curry, here is where you have to go.
But if you prefer a rather classic break you can be sure to get eggs any style and tasty pancakes. Oh, before we forget - not only the chicken is self-grown, so are all the vegetable and fruit, 100% organical. Pond is incredible in sharing the thai way of thinking and gives you a lot of insights on the geography and culture of her habitat. She accomodates her guest by arranging scooters for rent, massage by the great local Mrs. Pai, boat-tripsto the islands, laundry service and so on....
We just wish our travel schedule had more room to stay longer ....

Room Tip: Take the sea view, it's worth every baht...

We loved staying here! These wooden bungalows are on stilts built into the hillside and the ones at the front have fantastic views. We left the curtains open (no-one can see in) so that we could lie in bed and see the sunrise each morning. The room had everything we needed, including a fridge, huge comfy bed (with mosquito net), very effective air con and hot water from an electric shower in a decent bathroom. There's also a TV but we never switched it on. Everything is made of high quality wood. The big balcony is a wonderful place to relax, with comfortable sun chairs provided and a wonderful view across to neighbouring islands.

The bungalows have access to a small beach area. There's a canoe that you can take out for free and we paddled down to a nicer beach area that was totally deserted and stretches for miles. It's also an easy canoe trip to the Twison resort and we stopped here for drinks and lunch.

I highly recommend hiring a moped (Pond can arrange this for you) and exploring the island. I wouldn't ride a moped in Phuket but I felt safe here because the roads are quiet, with little traffic. This gives you a glimpse into life in the villages on the island but there is hardly any tourism so don't expect to find loads of bars, restaurants, etc.

The accommodation here is fantastic but our holiday was made wonderful by the host, a delightful lady called Pond. She does everything she can to make your stay enjoyable but without being intrusive. If you want fish for dinner she will go to the local fishermen and buy it for you. Breakfast was amazing for a resort this of size. This was partly a buffet choice, which includes cereals, toast and bread, with a wide variety of jams, spreads etc, there's sticky rice, fresh fruit, we were served delicious pancakes and this was followed by a choice of eggs and all of this is included in the price. I also counted a choice of 17 different types of coffee, numerous types of tea and various other hot drinks! Bottled water is provided free each day.

There is an extensive menu for evening meals and these were delicious. The restaurant is in a stunning position on the hillside. Pond and her family are Muslim so you cannot buy wine but we drank plenty of beer whilst staying here. Pond allows her workmen to supply and sell beer so this wasn't a problem. There's a fridge in your room so you could drink your own wine or beer if you wanted to and there are other places on the island selling alcohol.

I would advise you to book directly with Pond. I kept her details so that I can book again in the future but I notice a previous reviewer has added Pond's contact details so I advise you to use these. We booked using an agent called Koh Yao Travel but they failed to pass on our booking details to Pond so she wasn't expecting us. Fortunately for us she had an available room. Another place that we stayed at said that they had also had problems with Koh Yao Travel.

This was the best place we stayed during our 3 week trip to Thailand and definitely had the most hospitable and welcoming host.

Room Tip: Go for a seaview, it's well worth it!

We wanted to stay somewhere away from the crowds and party atmosphere of Phuket for at least a night. We flew in and went straight to the pier (be careful, the taxi company assumed we were going to Phi Phi and took us to the wrong pier). We arrived in time for a long boat over to Koh Yao Yai (120 baht each) about 40mins. The resort is a lovely small one, with about 6 bungalows that are beautifully built in thai style. We were at one of the front sea view bungalows and had an uninterrupted view to the water. We swam in the water at the front of the resort though it's not great. Pond is lovely and will do anything for you. She organised our long boat trip the next day out into the bay. The food (and view from the restaurant) is lovely. Don't forget the island is a Muslim island, so no beer (though you may be able to get the workers to sell you theres). It was perfect just sitting back on your balcony over looking the water....just wish I had a wine. Go if you want to get away from it all.
To book a bungalow email Pond on yadamon_pond@hotmail.com or call (+66) 087-2748832 or 081-9587410.

Room Tip: Go for the seaview bungalows. Uninterrupted views of the water. Our was on the far left the furthe...

We found the most stunning views of the Islands with the resort perched on a large Headland, great airy Teak bungalows, AC, big balcony, huge comfy beds with semi open bathrooms, My wife goes strait for the best view Bungalow and we settled in, Pond's Mother (a retired school teacher for 35 years) looked after us and we celebrated our 3rd wedding Anniversary with great dinner of fresh fish, my Wife ate 1 kg of fresh cooked crabs in the restaurant looking out on nearby Islands. kayaks are available or exploring the Islands in a fishing boat, small beach for a swim but can organize a fishing boat to a nice island close by. Definitely going back for a longer stay next year !

Room Tip: a front bungalow with view. we had one looking east to see the Sunrise
