“Castaway in pure luxury”
Reviewed 28 April 2013

Our goal was to find a place to get away from the daily grind and this was what we expressed to our travel agent. Initially, we were steered in the direction of the usual, rather ordinary holiday experience; staying at a large beach side resort in Phuket. After almost committing to this idea, we stumbled across a spectacular photo in a travel brochure of a private pool villa perched high on a hilltop overlooking the sea. We immediately enquired about this place and
were advised that this resort was a work in progress and located on a relatively unknown island. However, we still took the plunge and booked our stay. Reading past reviews certainly helped us develop the right frame of mind before our arrival. In hindsight the small concerns we had were totally unfounded as this place far exceeded our expectations.

We were picked up from a stopover resort in Phuket. Transport arrived promptly and the driver was very courteous, a great start. We arrived early at the marina for the speedboat transfer and expected to be left to our own devices. To our surprise, for the 15 mins we had to wait, we were treated to a complimentary coffee and cake at a beautiful European café, which we thought was a really nice touch to the transfer experience. The boat ride from the marina to Koh Yao Yai was a short and pleasant one with a very competent and friendly crew at the helm. The water was calm and we encountered some stunning rock formations along the way.

The welcome at the resort was warm and friendly. After a quick check-in with a fabulous watermelon mocktail, we were taken to our villa on a charismatic wooden shuttle, another nice touch. Once we arrived at the villa, we were given a brief but detailed tour of the residence. This moment also confirmed the authenticity of the photos in the original travel brochures. The well-appointed villa had a spacious layout, beautiful wooden furnishings and a spectacular private infinity pool. The ocean views from the villa were breathtaking. The layout and surrounding foliage also ensured privacy was maintained throughout the entire residence without obscuring the views. Despite ongoing construction to complete the resort, the noise was kept to an absolute minimum.

The resort currently has only one bar and restaurant but this was not an issue. The menu was extensive and we did not have a single bad meal. During our stay, our bias was always towards trying the local delicacies but their western menu did not disappoint. We were also presented with a comprehensive breakfast spread every morning. Full compliments to the
chef and the kitchen staff. Dinners were particularly exceptional and we enjoyed a wonderful Songkran banquet while serenaded by a truly talented singing duo.

Throughout our stay, we found all the staff to be very friendly and professional. Communication was never an issue and room service enquiries were dealt with promptly. House keeping was exceptional. The level of hospitality from the general manager Lloyd also impressed us during our stay. Lloyd clearly knows how to run a luxury resort and we wish him all the best getting this resort completed and all the success thereafter.

We have no hesitation recommending this resort to anyone looking for a true getaway in luxury and we are looking for the next opportunity to revisit.

Due to the fact that we work hard during the year, we always look positive forward to our vacation. We are working international and are spoiled with top level hotels and resorts.
The Santhiya resort fullfilled our expectations by far!
At our arrival our first contact person from the resort was Viren, the Senior Front Office Supervisor. This first impression of this employee was unique: a very warm welcome, great hospitality, professional competence, an excellent English and high social competence. We felt even more than "only" comfortable. If somebody knows how to threat guests on a very high level, then it is the Santhiya Koh Yao Yai Resort & Spa!
Dear Danny (former General Manager) : Congratulations, all your employees were very attentive, always willing to help and extremely friendly (from the bottom of their heart) - great job!
A few words to the resort: you can expect a high level luxury resort. Everything you touch is handmade of teakwood. The placement of the hotel is spectacular. The villas are outstanding as well as the view you have. The interior of the villa is very luxury, generous and each detail brings a value for the guests. You are in Thailand and you feel that you are in Thailand.
The restaurant offers you first class authentic food and each dish was presented in an excellent way. We can even recommend the "western food": whatever you choose, you will love it!
We had a chance to meet the new General Manager, Lloyd Maravilla - a very competent, open and extremly friendly person. With his professional and social competence and together with his team, we are very positive that the Santhiya resort will have a great future and lots of happy guests which will certainly say: WOW, this is a place to be!
It is no secret: we will come back to this paradise on the Koh Yao Yai Island!
Thank you so much, all of you!
Best regards from Switzerland

I travel to Thailand often and have stayed in numerous hotels, but this hotel is among the best I have stayed so far. It is new, clean and respects privacy. The major feature is a private infinity pool in each villa, overlooking the ocean. The villa looked exactly what is advertised in their website, and I was able to enjoy breathtaking views every day.

On the service front, staff come to the room twice (once in the morning to clean and once in the evening to prepare bed), making sure everything goes smoothly. I had a problem with internet connection and this was fixed shortly after. In any event, all staff were friendly and tried to make my stay an enjoyable one. If they can be trained to understand/speak English, that would be better.

This hotel is far from everywhere and the only real option is to eat/drink on site. Some may find this pricy but it is quite normal from the western standard.

Overall this was a very good hotel and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to enjoy a quite, private time away from hustle and bustle.

this was probably the most magical hotel we have ever stayed in...and we travel a lot!

what you need to know:
1. it is located on an island 30 minutes ride by a speed boat from Phuket (hotel organizes transport and the cost is around 500USD per family of 4 - return ticket),

2. hotel has a central part (breathtaking swimming pool with fantastic waterfall, beautiful restaurant, fitness - all decorated with carved teak). this part is spectacular. if you love asian design you will be impressed and enjoy it. it is so well thought through and nicely finished. it immediately makes you relaxed,

3. they have a private beach next to the central part. it is clean but I would not reco it for kids as there are some small stones and dead coral which make it a bit uncomfortable to swim,

4. all the villas are on the slop of the hill (100m above water level) so all folks who are scared of Tsunami can be reassured that it is safe there,

5. Villas have they private endless pools (magnificent). The one we took was 2 rooms, originally planned for a couple (beautiful bed room and living room) but we asked for extra beds and they swiftly organized it. worked very well so do not be afraid to book 2 room villa for a family of 4,

6. Villas are beautiful but there are 3 watch outs: a) finish could be a bit better...though nothing to complain, b) while they organize a 24/7 car transport to your villa (works smoothly) you may have few steep step to get from the road to your place. if this is an issue ask for villa which is easy to access, c) we had mosquitos in our villa and despite using electric repellents we couldn't get rid of them. though there is no malaria or dengue on the island,

7. they have spa but we have not used it,

8. if you go with family prepare around 1000USD for extra activities. they offer a lot and we went for diving, fishing and fantastic trip around Crabi islands (MUST DO). we book all as private tours but you obviously can join others though the hotel is not fully occupied yet,

9. they still keep building new villas but it had a zero impact on us...we did not hear anything,

10. staff was fantastic though it is true that not all of them speak good English...but you can easily mange and some people were simply so kind and nice that we really felt special,

11. they have one restaurant opened so far. it offers Thai and Western cuisine. Menu is long enough to try different stuff for 5-6 days and they signature dishes are really great. Wine list is short. as there is no competition around dining is at the higher end of the price spectrum as it comes for Thailand (100USD per family of 4),

also because it is still relatively new and not fully booked prices are really good!

net, we really loved it and will be back!!!!

We spent our honeymoon at Santhiya Resort for 5 nights. The location, architecture and ambiance of this resort is spectacular! The staff are extremely helpful and the coconut shakes are beyond amazing! The infinity pool overlooking the ocean is incredible and the outdoor shower and bath have been uniquely designed for complete serenity and privacy. Our stay at Santhiya Resort was outstanding and we are planning to return here for our anniversary. We have both travelled extensively and without question, this is one of the most beautiful places in the world!

We were there 7 nights, to compare with phuket, there is a real Heaven, very quiet beach and the must is the private pool in villa!

Our room was amazing and we feel in an other dimension. A new hotel with a traditional concept, all decoration with carving and open air for the bathroom. Main Pool with waterfall, private transfer with speedboat, great and smiling staff.

After I read all reviews, I agree they find a good way to hire people on strategic points. Our check-in was prompt and the fresh coconut was a plus. All villas are build on the cliff so we must go and back with a cute wooden cab.

The sunset is fabulous, from the private pool or with a cocktail at the restaurant, here as well, a new manager give a "french touch" and service was good. Must try the white snapper in banana leave and mango with sticky rice...

The resort still under construction but they care about noise, nothing came to disturb our peacefully moments. I guess the main pool will have a bar as it was nothing yet around.

We will definitely back there to see how is growing up.

My mother, my sister and I went to Santhiya Koh Yao Resort at the end of March until the beginning of April 2013. We wanted to celebrate the 79th birthday of our mother.
We were very, very happy about our choice. Wonderful location, fantastic sea view villa with private pool, very nicely decorated and furnished. Wonderful bathroom with out door shower. We three stayed in one villa.
Every day we had new water bottles, fresh fruit and some kind of sweets.
Although the villa was fantastic, we preferred to stay at the beach or half a day, had many swims or walked at the beach.
The food and drinks we also excellent. You could choose between Thai food and European style. I especially recommend the fish in banana leaves. The service was attentive and fast. I had read in some review before that the staff does not speak English well enough and that it would be hard to communicate the wishes. In our case, we got everything we wanted, no misunderstanding. I could mention many people of the staff, but one of them was especially nice. His name was Sukrit.
We had always dinner and most of the times lunch in the restaurant. The menu is of such a variety and tastefulness, you will love it. We never got problems with the stomach - which i want to mention because we were with my mother and this was important for us.
The restaurant is located just near the beach, at night they have lots of candles and live music, guitar player and a wonderful female singer. No loud speakers. Very romantic. They play the songs you want., if they do not know them, they learn them over night and present them next day to you-which they did for us.
For my mother`s birthday we had a private dinner arrangement on the beach in a kind of tent. It was a very nice evening, and everything turned out unforgettable and as my sister and I had wanted. From the hotel, she got a nice and very tasty chocolate birthday cake.
What else is their to say?
My sister is an enthousiasitic runner, so Paul from the activity staff arranged to meet her several times to run with her.
We would definitely go back. Until now, there are 18 villas finished, so it is quiet and exclusive - which we wanted. A great experience. No night market, no disco, no one selling you anything on the beach, nothing of that kind near by.
Every day we had a bottle of sparkeling wine at noon on the beach. We cheered and thanked each other for deciding to come here.
All we wanted - and more.
