A few years ago we spend some days at Santhiya Koh Phangan. We loved that place so much that we decided to try the sister resort at Koh Yao Yai. This resort not only met our expectations, it went beyond them. The resort is even more beautiful with its breathtaking views. We had Pool Villa nr. 1202. It was marvelous! The view from our terrace with pool was postcard beauty! The rooms are huge, extremely beautiful in decoration in the original Thai style. We loved the outdoor bathroom! The restaurant offers buffet breakfast and dining and the food is very high standard. The beach isn’t really spectacular, but we didn’t spend any time there, because we wanted to enjoy our beautiful home on the hill as much as possible. To rest your weary legs there are cute little wooden vans to bring you everywhere you want to go. The staff is really nice, always smiling and willing to help in any way. We loved the beautiful surroundings with the woodcarving and art works and hope we will be able to come back one day.

We spend 2 nights here as part of a 10 night trip to Thailand. We were expecting excellent things from this hotel and booked an Ocean Sea View Villa with a private pool.

The villa was lovely with a lovely view (which would have been nicer had the branches been trimmed back). The villa was spacious with a separate living area and bedroom. As we were here for our anniversary we were even sent an anniversary cake which was a lovely gesture along with towel swans and flower petals on the bed. The bathroom was hugh with a wet room / shower and an outdoor shower, however as the outdoor shower was connected to the bathroom I felt that there were alot of bugs / mosquitos in the bathroom which was not pleasant.

The restaurant had a wide range of food to choose from which was very tasty and nicely presented. The evening singers were also tastful and relaxing to listen to. On the second night we fancied a dessert and were told we could only have one of three on the set menu (although we had ordered from the main menu) despite at lunch there being a wider section. This was disappointing from what is meant to be a high end hotel.

The staff as with all staff in Thailand were friendly and egar to please however considering we did not want to be disturbed we received 2 visits and 2 phone calls in less than 40hours which defeated the point of being left alone!

Check out is meant to be 12noon however as our transfer was for 12noon reception suggested we be out by 11am. By 10:45am reception called to see if we were ready to check out, then we had to wait 15 mins to be collects from our room (usually cars are with you in mins) and cleaners were in our room before we had been picked up. It felt as thou they were more interested in getting us out instead of a nice ending to our holiday. We then had to wait in reception for 30mins to be collected for our transfer instead of making full use of our £150 a night room.

Due to these points and considering the cost of this hotel the service did not live up to expectations, yes the Villa's are beautiful, the food good and the staff friendly however the quality of service and earnest to get us out of our room in the morning let this experience down and as such I dont think I would return.

Friendly staff, great views, good location, lovely pool and free extra options such as kayaking, paddle boat and Thai boxing.

Also stunning vocals and music from a live duet who play at night providing a great atmosphere.

The only negative is the cost of food compared to the rest of Thailand. This is about four times more than elsewhere and you then pay 10% service and 7% VAT. Even spa treatments which were great, charge service and VAT.

Would stay here again, but with a bit more saved up for the restaurant.

Beautifully styled resort, intricately carved and built in traditional Thai wooden architecture.Service was excellent and friendly. Our 10 month infant was a massive hit with all the staff, they love babies and cater perfectly for them (high chairs, sleeping cots and smiled while cleaning the breakfast bombs).

Our 7 nights in the private pool villa was amazing, completely sealed off from the outside world with spectacular views across the bay. Spent one night in the sea view rooms and they can not compare, so if you can afford the premium, trade up.

Lots of local restaurants down the beach and a short walk into the island delivers you to cheaper shops and some local island life.

Both my wife and I are beach snobs and the physical beach where the resort is situated, is not good at all. Small and dirty. The staff try hard to keep it clean with constant sweeping and they have constructing retaining systems to keep the sand from disappearing.

I would not return but it's worth a visit if you are in the area.

Room Tip: Go for a private pool villa

We stayed here for one night as part of our east asia tour. I must say it is paradise. Get a villa with the pool. We loved it and could not get out of it. The food was good and the facilities were great. We wished we had more time to spend there. Hotel staff were friendly and sometimes are just too helpful! I guess we are not used to that level of hospitality.
The villa was amazing - top notch and had everything you wanted.

Room Tip: VIlla with a pool!

Where do I start, what an amazing hotel. The rooms where like been in paradise an the staff where the most accommodating we have met so far. Not really got a bad word to say about it except the lack of hot water in the balcony bath which seems to be a theme on these Thai hotels. Amazing views great setting and good food. The night time menu was a little limited but what was offered was to a good standard. Breakfast was excellent with everything you could want. Would defiantly stay again next year.
