This hotel was simply breathtaking, made up of beautiful wooden carvings. We booked the Deluxe room with Sea view which was incredible, there was even a bath tub on the balcony for you to bathe and watch the sunset - a little piece of heaven. We had a complimentary massage which was divine. The breakfast was also one of the best I have ever had - with everything imaginable. There was also a lovely pool and loungers also placed within the pool. They offered a fairly varied menu for dinner also - which was good as there wasn't really anywhere else that you could have eaten locally. We hired mopeds from a place next door (much cheaper), to see the island which was a lovely experience as you got to see how the locals lived. If you want a resort to relax - then this is the place for you, as there aren't a huge amount of activities available. Simply, the most beautiful place I have ever stayed with great customer service.

Room Tip: Deluxe room with Sea view - is definitely worth the extra money

My daughter stayed at the Santhiya Koh Yai Resort & Spa unfortunately for only 2 days at the end of our reunion holiday in Thailand. We wished we had stayed longer as the Santhiya is the most amazing resort I have ever encountered. Everything and I mean everything is first class. Everyone at the Santhiya treats you like it is your last day on Earth. The food was fabulous, the pool area so tranquil and our Villa was to die for!!!! Every little detail is taken care of, the staff speak and understand English quite well. We will be back!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Please choose a Villa with a pool you will not regret it!!!!

My partner and I decided to go to Koh Yao Yai - we stayed at Santhiyah after going through the reviews on Trip Advisor. The resort is quite beautiful, with the beautiful wooden carvings, and one certainly feel a different theme to the resort which stands out from other hotels we had stayed at prior. The staff were friendly but we did notice different level of training amongst the staff. F and B department there were staff who would open up the umbrellas without being asked when it had become a bit too hot to have breakfast under the direct sun, and a young waiter who noticed that we wanted their attention, quickly took over one of his senior waitress's work and directed her attention to us - highly commended. But then there would be waiters/ waitress who stood around us while we were having dinner, yet dishes weren't cleared away and the bill having to be asked twice. ( though these are small matters). The room was beautiful and on the first night we had turn down service, bathtub outside looking over the ocean was clean which is lovely. Sadly we didn't have our towels changed/ room cleaned despite requesting twice with house keeping, as well as shaving kit not being delivered. On the second request, it was forgotten, and through miming, explained to house keeping that a shaving kit was still required. ( limited English). Felt terrible, that she had to go back to find the shaving kit and came back with toothbrushes and shaving kits, not her fault but communication was an issue relaying information from us to reception and reception to housekeeping.
Breakfast buffet was okay, reassuring to see the food was kept in air conditioned area, taste wise okay. Understandably in a more secluded area, and hence choices weren't as vast as other resorts we had been at.
Dinner was okay -limited to eating at the resort.
Overall it is a nice place to relax - we stayed for two nights, three days which we found adequate.
All rooms have a little wooden van that takes u to and from the main area. The pool area is very lovely and the beach is cleaned and patrolled with security which well appreciated. The pier is lighted up and very romantic:)

I will not recommend paying $$$$( 5000 baht + for the two of us for santhiya signature massage) for the massage treatment. It wasn't particularly better/ more special than those for much less (300 -700 baht) in regards to the massage techniques. From someone who loves massages ( have a regular masseur in Australia) had a complimentary 10 min and 30 min head and foot massage that was the promotion which was on - but for some odd reason I and my hair braided as part of the massage??? I would not recommend paying for the massages here - wait til you are somewhere else and have one at a much more acceptable price.

Our first "Santhiya" trip was a few years ago on Koh Phangan...it was so beautiful that we decided to try Santhiya on Koh Yao Yai this year.

On Koh Phangan you have the possibility to book a villa with or without pool. On Koh Yao Yai you can choose only between a villa with a private pool or a room.... on Koh Phangan you have a better range.

The booking a few hours before check-in was no problem and the check-in was quickly and nice. Although it was low-season and a lot of rooms were free, the check-in was not possible before 2 o'clock.... what a pity.
Santhiya offers very nice villas and rooms with lovely details.
We had a beautiful four-postered bed which was very comfortable. The room service was ok.

The selection at the breakfast buffet was good but in comparison with other 5 stars hotels it was a medium-level. Also it was a standard in our other 5 stars hotels to get ice water or ice tea at the pool/beach as a complimentary.

The staff in the restaurant was very helpful and gracious. Also the drivers from the pick-up service from and to the rooms were quickly and very friendly.

The pool is one of the highlights ... very big with a big waterfall. Really fantastic.

What attract my attention was that the lady at the pool was very helpful and lovely.
She speaks very good English, in my opinion she speaks better English than some stuff at the check-in reception... She was in the position to answer our questions very fluently and professional. It would be better to put her in the support/care for the guests than to give towels away.

What incurred my displeasure:
- there was a very big platform in the sea/at the beach with a lot of rubbish, it looked really ugly
- an eleven year old boy is working the whole day at the beach (for the hotel owner-> sent him to school... so you will have a good educated young man in the future)
- the prices in the restaurant are in my opinion too high
- the transfer price to the pier for 2 minutes driving is not proportional

Dear Piccola0706,

Greetings from Santhiya Koh Yao Yai Resort & Spa – Traditional Thai-style luxury beach resort on tropical island.

First of all thank you very much to trust us and gave us a chance to serve you to feel authentic Thai Hospitality again, we are so sorry to keep you wait until check in time because there were a lots of room back to back (many rooms checked out at the same time) during your check in day.

Thank you very much for your constructive feedback about our breakfast and another service it will help us to improve all services which will meet guests requirements.

Its sounds really good that you impressed with our Team member on recreation sector we will announce her main in our annual staff party it will definitely motivate her to keep up top class service standard, thank you.

We do our best to kept our beach clean everyday but last few months back the sea condition was very bad that left a lot of garbage on the beach but now it getting much better and we are accepting to more clear day by day as we are almost going to finish monsoon season.

There might be some misunderstanding as we never hire any staff age under 18 years, actually it illegal here in Thailand but thanks to raise the question it attract all others attraction to not breaking the law.

About our food section we focus on top quality and hygienic first with live music and Thai traditional dance demonstration and many more to select from and value and price is depend which atmosphere you like to obtain.

Once again thank you very much to spend your valued holidays with us and looking forward to warm welcome you in your near future trip.

I was so looking forward to staying at this resort after much searching and review reading but after two nights of a five night planned stay we left. The villas are beautiful and the views are amazing and yes it is quiet but it felt a little tacky and slightly shambolic. I am happy to eat a buffet breakfast, it was okay but not good. the bread was still frozen and the pastries uncooked, the orange juice was a foul over sweetened concentrate and the jam the cheapest I have seen. Dinner is an odd affair, you can have the set buffet which was not pleasant or eat a la carte in the bar, this has to be ordered by 5pm, not sure why and the menus are very confusing, you get handed a sheaf of papers which seem to make no sense. The bar service doesn't extend to the pool or beach, if you want a drink you have to walk to the only bar and ask for it. The towels have to be checked in and out at the pool and the lady was really not pleasant, I actually made a joke that I was not hiding towels up my sun dress as I felt quite challenged by her. We sat on the beach in an extremely uncomfortable lounger but still had to walk to the pool to collect and return towels. The cars to take you up and down to your villas can take a while to arrive which means everything has to be planned, we were quite high up and in that heat the walk was not possible. There really is nothing to do except sunbathe, not even another bar to sit in or an area to lounge in. The villa pool was freezing as it is pretty windy up the hill making swimming a chilly affair. I am well used to travelling the world and staying at a variety of places and I cannot see how the resort justifies the star rating it has. I will not return to Santhiya as I feel there are very many other places in Thailand that do deserve a five star rating and I shall go to them. I feel sadly very disappointed as we saved long and hard for our holiday and it just didn't deliver. However, if you like doing absolutely nothing, eating poor buffet food and coping with the towel police etc etc you may enjoy it.

We stayed at Santhiya Koh Yao Yai for 4 nights and it was absolutely wonderful. We had an Ocean View Pool Villa with our own private "large pool", which is great if you want total privacy. It took a little getting used to using the toilet outside, but the outdoor bath and shower is a nice touch and in Thai style. We love the view from our villa, especially during the sunset. The service is great with friendly staff. we definitely come back again soon!

A very very fantastic place on earth, located a private location with peaceful atmosphere. People are friendly. Room is well decorated and clean. A lot of complimentary activities to select. For instance, fitness room, bicycle, kayaking.

Room Tip: Stay on top floor to avoid reflective sound.
