The drive to Storefjell is a windy, steep, sometimes unpaved, road. We got there in the rain and after a long day of sightseeing. We had booked a budget room, but the description clearly stated "double room with pullout sleeper sofa" We were assigned our room and there were only stairs to access this room. The room was extrememly small and smelled like "bed head." I sniffed the pillows and about gagged. I went back to the desk and asked if all budget rooms were like ours. I was told yes. I explained that our room smelled bad and asked if at the least we could have new pillows. She started to work on that and I asked if the hotel was full. She said no and then said that since we were only going to be there one night she could be nice and gave us an upgrade. The new room was a double with a pullout sleeper sofa! I think we were in the room we should have been. From there I have to say the staff was extremely nice. We had an issue with a booking company and a future hotel had been changed. The staff made a phone call for me and got me to an English speaking person. They also held the phone open while I returned to my room to get a credit card. The evening meal looked fabulous but it was fairly pricey (and rightly so for the selection.) and we were not that hungry. We could get a chicken dinner which consisted of two leg/thigh quarters, choice of potato, salad, bread, vegetable, dessert and coffee for quite a bit less. (Still about $40 each.) If you don't want to eat their food, be sure to eat before arriving. This hotel is way too far from anything to return for a meal. The breakfast was good with many choices. It was included with the room in our case and probably all rooms. The new room was clean. The bathroom was good. It had a door on the shower. There was even some counter space. With the sleeper sofa, there was plenty of room for our suitcases. The beds were not very comfy and I agree with the other writers that mention the insulation of the rooms. It was a somewhat loud hotel. I would stay here again if I had to. When I booked this night the choices between Flam and Oslo were limited and very pricey. This hotel was more reasonable and for one night met our needs. I am sure it would be a great place for skiiing. The views were really pretty.
