If you are staying in Florence, this restaurant will take a bit of finding but it is worth it, so take a taxi. The setting is lovely in the hills south of Florence and there is a covered outdoor terrace to take advantage of great views over the city. The staff were very welcoming and the food was delicious. We decided to try a local pasta dish with ricotta and nettles to start and it was really excellent as was the rest of the meal. This was recommended to us by an Italian couple who live locally and it was interesting that all the other diners, as far as we could tell, we're also Italian - and they usually know a good thing when it comes to food. A bit of a trek even if you are if you are staying locally in Bagno a Ripoli but La Gargotta is definitely worth a visit.

This restaurant takes a little getting to because it is in the hills overlooking the Florence area. If you are driving for yourself you go through some very picturesque areas......other than that, you probably want to take a taxi. On arrival my immediate impression is that it reminded me of a game lodge reminiscent of somewhere in Bavaria......just my impression. They have a nice outdoor seating area for a great view of the setting sun if you time it right. The staff was very, very nice and accommodating. They even made a special dish for one of my daughters.....she just wanted pasta with olive oil and garlic....one of my favorites too, but this time I tried one of there homemade specialty gnocchi and it was delicious. The house red wine, as is usually the case, was more than adequate and satisfying.

We also stayed at the Villa Olmi and this restaurant was recommended to us. It was one of our favorites! Great food, friendly staff, locals sitting next to us!

After spending the day driving through Tuscany, we sought a recommendation from our hotel, the Villa Olmi. They sent us up the side of a hill in the dark and we found a restaurant where we were alone (it was late on a Tuesday night). We had a wonderful meal with such pleasant people at the restaurant. It appeared they stayed open just for us!! Beautiful spot, wonderful view to Florence. Great experience.

It's been refreshing Italian experience. This restaurant is not about pasta and pizza. We ordered various types of meat - duck, sirloin, fillet of beef. The sides were based on very fresh vegies, salad, grilled vegies, fried zucchinis and more. Nothing sophisticated, but all together had been the best of simplicity and high-quality.

The prices are very reasonable. Nothing fancy here. We order caraf of Chianti house wine and it was great addition to the food. The deserts we tried were chocolate case, which is a must if you go there and the cheese cake (also good, but not comparable to the chocolate).

The atmosphere is great. Even the day was very hot (35+ degrees), it was very comfortable to sit and dine outside. The place is located on a high hill with great views of Firenze. I strongly recommend starting dinner before sunset and experience it during the meal.

Important to note that our 3 kids 8-12 loved the food. The specially prepared pasta with simple Pomodoro sauce for one of the kids and we (the parents) loved the leftovers...

The staff had been very polite and could explain everything about the food in English. We arrived to the restaurant following recommendation of the hotel staff. Good recommendation!
We could notice many locals coming in groups for personal events like birthday.
If you are around, I strongly recommend La Gargotta.
