Our visit in late May '14 coincided with the gardens annual flower show, so we saw it in particularly vibrant style. But even at other times of the year it would still be a very enjoyable visit. It adjoins the President's official residence, and garden visitors can stroll very close to the main entrance. For such an unsung location, the gardens are an excellent diversion from the usual Malta tourist fare of historical sites and beachfront hotels and bars. However, the Health & Safety gestapo would have a field day due to the dilapidated state of the pathways.

It's a wonderful place to relax. This garden has been open to the public since 1882 and it was built by Grand Master Antoine de Paule to complement his summer residence, San Anton Palace, which today is the residence of the Maltese President. Once you're there, don't forget to visit the President's Kitchen Garden (has been providing the palace with vegetables since the time of the knights) that is exactly near this Garden

This is one of maltas unknown paradises! The car park is free and the gardens are beautiful! We took our 3 year old son there and strolled through the gardens. - he ran around letting off steam! In the centre there are ducks, swans and fountains. To one side there is a fountain with terrapins which he loved! There are also birds to see and a lovely fun maze on the opposite side of the gardens to the terrapins! You need to head towards the presidential place then to the left after the steps and walk through the colonnades, cross the road to where you will find the kitchen garden. Again farm animals for children to see and a covered seating area for something to eat. Lots if play equipment which is safe and secure. Would highly recommend and go again!

As we were staying locally we made several visits to the gardens and also enjoyed some snacks in the pleasant cafe. The gardens are not large, but well laid out with pretty flower beds. There is also a children's section with animals. Definitely worth a visit and would imagine would provide some much needed shade in the summer.
