Our stay was nice enough. no real complaints. Just a note that they do not accept payment by card, which we weren't informed of until we wanted to pay at the end of the stay. Meant a half hour delay to our leaving time as has to drive to cash machine 5-10 mins drive away. They should maybe mention this on booking, or at the very least on arrival to avoid the inconvenience. Otherwise a fairly pleasant stay.

Stayed one night whilst attending friends anniversary celebration. The landlady and her family were very helpful, from start to finish (including returning a set of keys we had left behind). Very comfortable, and beautifully appointed,we were well satisfied. Fresh figs for breakfast!! (and plums in the hedgerows!)

We stayed here with friends for a weekend visit to an event on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. The welcome was very friendly with lots of tips from the landlady on places to get some food and a full tour of the house including the lovely lounge, which we were told we were welcome to use, though we may find the man of the house snoring on the sofa. In all there were five of us staying at the barn, two couples and a single friend. We arrived early evening and we (one couple) and our single friend (apologies for pigeon-holing you my dear) went out to get some dinner at a nearby pub (the very nice Reedham Ferry as recommended by the landlady). When we arrived back (sometime around half 9) our other friends had arrived and so we set to enjoying some G&Ts in the lounge and catching up. At about 10pm the landlady popped in because she had seen the lights on and wondered what was going on. She picked up our bottle of tonic (on the antique sideboard), sort of sniffed at it and told us to make sure we don't spill anything. It felt rather like being told off at school. Anyway, we carried on drinking and chatting away until at five to twelve we were told that everyone else in the house was trying to sleep and showing surprise that anyone should be up at this ungodly hour. Whilst we weren't told directly that we had to go to bed it was made pretty clear that we should. We shuffled off to our bedrooms with our tails between our legs (but then spent the next ten minutes texting our amazement at each other).

Next morning we made use of the inadequate bathroom facilities (one couple had an en-suite shower room but the other three of us had an old fashioned bath room with retro 70s shower head attachment that had to be put on to the taps, like when you were a kid, lurid pink carpet , solid soap and no other toiletries) and made our way down to breakfast, fearing a spanking from the land lady. What a revelation! Breakfast was absolutely delicious - including properly cooked rubber free bacon, tasty sausages, eggs cooked to order and lots of tea, coffee and toast. There was no mention of the previous night's activities.

The rest of the stay passed off without remark. We made ourselves scarce on the second evening, slept well and finally paid up and left.

The decor was generally of a good standard. It is clear that this is something that the owners do on the side in order to earn a bit of extra money and pay the bills. The price on the website is out of date (doubles were £70 per night, not the £60 as on the website) but the photos are pretty honest. The bed creaked something rotten and the walls are paper thin (we could hear every word from the other bedrooms), though the mattress was comfy. The bathroom was seriously out of date and I wonder if we were given the wrong room as it says that the double rooms either have en-suite or private bathroom. The bedlinen was good quality (John Lewis) and there were good tea and coffee making facilities in the room with a packet of Waitrose shortbread biscuits. The towels didn't match and one of mine had a serious hole in it.

The location is lovely - very peaceful with horses and black sheep outside the window and a view across the fields with nary a building in sight. It is very isolated so you definitely need a car to get around as there is nothing in the immediate area. The nearest pub is probably a 30 - 40 minute walk, back up to the main road.

So nice enough, but I think a little overpriced for something with holes in the towels and such a tired bathroom.
