“Pleasant Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2014

We just stayed one night while attending a play.in the town. The pub was very busy but in our room we didn't hear any noise. Wetherspoons have recently refurbished the hotel and our room was very spacious and comfortable. Car parking was only a few minutes walk away and £3 in the late afternoon went over into the next day. We had a tasty breakfast which is ordered at the bar and delivered to your table freshly cooked. The staff were helpful and friendly and we plan to stay here again.

Just stayed overnight here. The room was spacious, modern and the bed was very comfortable. Despite it being above a very busy wetherspoons pub the room was insulated from any noise.

The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful.

Parking was a few minutes walk from the hotel, but one hour parking in front of the pub was useful during check-in.

We will definitely stay in a wetherspoons hotel again if this is the standard we can expect.

We booked into the hotel late in evening and therefore received discount on normal rate which was nice. The receptionist was extremely efficient and helpful, showing us to our room which was refurbished to a very comfortable and high standard. We spent the rest of the evening in the bar and had a very nice time. The staff were helpful, surroundings and atmosphere pleasant and prices extremely reasonable. After a good nights sleep we had a well cooked breakfast, again at reasonable prices. All in all one of the best overnight breaks we have ever had.

Booked this hotel to suprise a family relative for their birthday we stayed two nights. Booked a family room as we have a 7 year old , when we arrived and booked in we got told we were not allowed in the bar/ restaurants area after 9pm and would need to take our daughter back to the room. How the hell can a hotel offer families rooms to not allow children in bar / restaurant area after 9pm. The hotel was very noisy early hours of the morning when the bar closed. Food was cold and temp of the food was not checked as it should be.
Onlygood thing I can say is rooms are nice although having a family room on top floor where there was loads stairs and corridors is stupid. I am in the process of writing to head office regarding my stay.

Room Tip: Do not stay here if you are a family and wish to stay in the bar longer then 9pm

Recently refurbished rooms are clean and comfortable. Unfortunately there was too much noise in our room from an extract fan and fire doors (of which there are a lot and they bang very loudly every time they are used). Good location. No hotel parking but only £3 for 24 hours in public car park or free on streets between 6pm and 9am. Did not eat in hotel so cannot comment. If booking ask if fire door problem has been fixed they are well aware it exists.

Room Tip: Avoid 208 as right next to large extract system.

We booked into this hotel during the afternoon. The receptionist was extremely helpful and pleasant, particularly as we actually moved in late in the evening. The room was very clean and and could not be faulted and we had agood nights sleep. It was lovely to wake up to the cry of seagulls.
Unfortunately this cannot be said about our breakfast. First we could not find where to order our breakfast, or find the cereals. We asked someone and were directed to the bar. The young man behind the bar was helpful and helped us to order. I felt that the choice of cereals was very poor, so we ordered porridge. When we sat down our hot meal was delivered, the wrong one. I asked if we could have the porridge first, I believe this is normal, to be met with great surprise. The waitress went away and kept clicking the button on the screen and after sometime went to the serving hatch and told the chef. The porridge was good. After finishing we waited a long time before the waitress came to collect our plates. She did not look in our direction so that we could catch her eye. We then sat and waited a very long time for our cooked meal. Eventually my husband queried what was happening as we were in a hurry (going to a funeral). Eventually after a ten minute wait the meal was delivered to our table. We were told that we had to wait for the scambled egg to cook. It was fairly tasteless. We have received better service and treatment in a cafe that we sometimes visit in Bovingdon (Hertfordshire) . Unless the service and food are improved I would NOT recommend this restaurant. If we stayed again we would go elsewhere for breakfast. E.M.Cook
