Good location but we have had much better, what more can I say. Parking was a bit tricky so we parked off road near the cottage

“Lovely base for Christmas”
Reviewed 16 February 2017 for a stay in December 2016

We arrived on Christmas Eve to be welcomed by the twinkling of lights on a small Christmas tree in a side window, such a thoughtful touch. The log burner was soon lit, so we were cosy inside, despite Storm Barbara blowing a gale outside. We didn't spend much time at the cottage as we were there to facilitate spending Christmas with my daughter and family in a neighbouring village, but it was a great base. The bedroom was a delight, so comfortable and pretty, with great views. There were thoughtful touches throughout the cottage, with many lovely decorative items, giving it personality and charm. The kitchen is small but well equipped, the bottle of mulled wine a nice touch too. The small garden must be a delightful place in the summer. And the area is lovely too. All in all, highly recommended

“A rare self-catering find”

Lavender is a rare find, a self catering cottage that is not for large families or groups but is perfect for a couple or a family with one child. We found everything we needed & Jill, the owner, had provided some little extras that made us feel welcome.

The off-street parking (a rarity in this part of Yorkshire) was just big enough for our 4x4 & would be easy for a car of more sensible size.

For various reasons we were unable to take advantage of the pleasant garden & barbecue area with views over the Aire Valley or the walks over the moors that are literally next door.

We certainly hope to be able to stay at Lavender Cottage in future.

Liked best: The traditional cottage feel & size.
Liked least: Steps, stairs & slopes but these are inevitable in this location.

“Dog friendly”

We had a lovey time during our stay at Lavender Cottage. Nice walks around the area, lovely old pubs and beautiful countryside.
The cottage was well equipped although as we stayed for 10days a washing machine would have been handy.
The master bedroom has only a double which for us was a little small, my problem I should have noticed when I booked. the room is a bit squashed as it has a huge wardrobe in it I would remove half of it to make the room bigger as it was very difficult to move around.
The cottage sits on a very noisy road and most of the noise is in the morning!!
However the cottage is clean and Cosy but another mistake I made was not noticing it is dog friendly!!
Noticed in the visitors book some people stayed with 3 dogs!!
So the place has a wet dog smell about it which is quite pungent especially after sitting on the llounge which continued after our 10day stay.
Jill was easy to communicate with and allowed us to check in early.

There is a dishwasher instead of a washing machine in the kitchen as most guests find that more helpful. People don't usually bother washing clothes too much on holiday - but you even rang me to find the laundrette!!

It is a cottage so only a standard double bed - which suits most people and it is a very comfortable expensive memory foam one at that!

Customers please read the other ratings 5* ratings - there's always one person that moans! :)

I booked this cottage for my family to stay in during a wedding weekend. They found it comfortable and pleasant. It was easy to book and the owner was very accommodating and responsive to making a small change in the booking. I would definitely book it again.

Had 3 nights stay at lavender cottage for my husbands bday with Tilly the jrt , well surprised wen we arrived as it was so cosy and a lovely welcome basket full of tin of biscuits, chocolate, Wine , tea coffee and selection of jams was very appreciated . The cottage was so warm.and clean with everything you needed. Bedrooms and bathroom where great with a cosy bed . Only downside was a little noisy from passing traffic wen the wondow was open .loved the log fire to sit by with a glass of wine to unwind after a healthy walk to the leeds liverpool canal and the five rise locks was truly amazing . The cafe served a tasty bacon bun and coffee ,also a couple trips down the hill to Busfield Arms and then challenged that strenuous hill bak to the cottage .Truly loved the break away it was just what we needed . Thku to the owners for making it relaxing .p s .. the garden was very pretty to sit in . Unfortunatly didnt sit in the summerhouse as the seats and cushions where wet from a leaking roof . Linda and Keith and Tilly . Xx

Thank you for your review, the summer house roof doesn't leak it was the people in before you who inconsiderately left them out in the rain, we shall invest in some waterproof cushions to avoid this happening in the future.
