we stayed in one of the "suites" which is basically a little semi-detached cabin by some semi-private thermal pools. i cannot recommend this highly enough! we had am amazing view at night of Antesana volcano from where we were sitting in the thermal pools, and although the pools are shared with other guests, there is still a good amount of privacy so you feel like you're in your own little Hobbit village. the tile floors of the suites are heated so even in the crisp night you are cozy in your room. we also got a massage at the spa and they were EXCELLENT. absolutely amazing value for money.

In between hikes our stay at Papallacta was a treat. Beautiful resort full of Ecuador roses with private termas right in front of your hotelroom in wooden little cabins. Lots of hot water and fluffy white towels, spacious rooms with good beds, very nice bathroom, all nice and warm! Use of the public balneares is included so we went twice: sunday afternoon in the sun with a lot of friendly Ecuadorian people from Quito and early monday morning in the mist, almost deserted. Best hot pool right next to the cold spring coming from the mountains.
We walked the trail along the Papallacta river up to 3450 m with lots of bromelia's and bamboo. The massages in the Spa were very good indeed, surrounded in luxury with Ecuadorian music in the backgroud, and reasonably priced.
We enjoyed our dinner in the restaurant: very nice trucha papillon and pristinos with honeysauce as desert. Breakfast was a feast with tomatotree juice, mocacino's scrambled eggs and fresh bread, served by friendly waiters. All in all a completely relaxing stay that we can highly recommend!

We stayed here for a night after a cruise around the Galapagos and sightseeing in and around Quito. I am getting more inclined to have a chill out at the end of our holidays and this hotel was the perfect choice. We only stayed one night but we arrived early on the Sunday and they were able to give us an early check in. We went for a walk along a river which was well signposted and great to take in some of the landscape and we spotted some interesting birds. There is a guide available as well (although not sure of the cost).
The hot springs are outside your room so we were hopping in and out as much as possible. The cool mountain rain and the clouds rolling over the mountains whilst you are warm in the springs is a wonderful relaxing experience. We didn’t have any spa treatments in the end as we just enjoyed the springs along with sleeping and reading.
The staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant was nice and relaxed and is not too expensive when compared with the price of the hotel. The food was very fresh and well prepared although it was pretty standard when it came to the menu. The waiters were really nice and welcoming.
On the negative side, although the rooms are lovely in terms of architecture they could do with sprucing up a bit. It generally looks a bit tired. Our heater which looked very basic was not working; luckily it wasn’t too cold a night. Also we arrived early on Sunday and it was very noisy around the pools. I think a lot of wealthier people from Quito come up for the weekend and perhaps it is little bit “party party” on a Friday and Saturday night. People then starting leaving and it was mostly tourist arriving to replace them who seems to want the quiet chill out that we did. As a result the night we stayed was lovely and quiet even though you can use the pools in the hotel 24 hours a day. We mostly had the pools to ourselves in the evening. Obviously it depends what you want but worth noting that you may want to avoid the weekends if you want more peace.
All in all I am very happy we tagged to the end of our holiday, it would be so expensive to do anything similar in Europe, and the spa treatments looked very cheap too, when compared with something similar in Europe. So would definitely say go for it.

This place is fabulous and perfect for relaxing and unwinding amidst your travels. Worth every cent. The pools are amazing and the layout of the place adds to the charm of having your own hot pool literally at your doorstep. The food and service was very good. The rooms basic yet comfortable and cosy, but why would you waste time in them? One night was not long enough.

By US standards - this place is really inexpensive for what you get! $155 for a nice all wood room with a great jacuzzi 10 feet from mini-semi exclusive thermal baths. For Ecuadorian standards - it is expensive, but if you can float it - it is a MUST! I would also suggest staying more than just a night and do some guided hiking or horseback riding, too. Just a wonderful place. Especially when not crowded (gets kinda nuts on the weekends).

IF you are on the cheap (I was when I was Peace Corps here) - there are less expensive places to eat outside and less expensive lodging, too. That said - again - if you can afford it - go! Also have to thank the staff for ordering the last minute private van for us to the airport - made it in plenty of time and the guy was great. IF you take the bus - be prepared for an even longer and harder dirt road climb to the resort after close to a mile of walking.

Room Tip: Avoid the crowds (go weekdays or early & late anyday)

We were so pleased to arrive at Termas Papallacta after a couple of nights roughing it in the jungle. We were pleasantly surprised by Terma Papallacta and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We had a lovely double room overlooking the hot pools but the hotel was very quiet and we had the hot pools all to ourselves. We had no problem with noise at night or during the day. The beds were very comfy. The restaurant was the one of the most expensive we went to in Ecuador (regular USA prices) but the food was excellent and there was a huge selection to choose from. Breakfast was also wonderful. There were numerous activities including horse riding at the Termas Papallacta and we wanted to stay longer but had to head out on a hike to Antisana. Lovely hotel, great service and we had a wonderful experience.

This is a lovely property. The setting in the mountains, views of the snow capped volcano, and overall ambiance and integration of the buildings in the landscape gives this place a very special feel. As described by others, the hot pools directly outside the guest rooms are a real treat. The rooms are rustic, but clean an comfortable. They encircle the private hot pools and there is steady guest traffic past your room so privacy and noise is a modest concern. The front desk and restaurant staff are very attentive and personable and the food is very good. There are also some excellent hiking trails in the adjacent nature reserve for those looking to earn their thermal soak and spa treatments first. Wish we could have stayed longer!
