Owner description: Set in a secluded valley between the picturesque village of Séguret and Mont Ventoux, Domaine de Mourchon was created by the McKinlay family in 1998. The vineyard had some twenty hectares of mature vines but no facility to make wine so, using modern technology and high standards, a winery was constructed and completed in 2000. The terraced hillside vineyard, at an average altitude of 350m, is based predominately clay and grey limestone which, combined with a microclimate, gives the location a terroir of unique quality. Careful husbandry using natural and organic techniques – "agriculture raisonnée" as it is known in France – in conjunction with combined traditional and advanced methods of vinification results in a well structured wine with pronounced fruit aromas and strong colours.

Mike from Wine Safari took us to this winery and we were made so welcome by Hugo. He gave us a wonderful tour of the winery and then we enjoyed amazing wines. They also have other products made from their grapes for sale and will ship to the States and for us here in Ontario, Canada, they can ship to an agent. Definitely recommend this winery if you are doing a wine tour in the Gigondas area.

We were admittedly intimidated about visiting a winery in France. However, the experience here was wonderful. They were friendly and knowledgeable and we learned a lot about wine in France.

The one problem was that all of the wine was so good that we had a hard time deciding what to purchase and take with us.

We would definitely go back and highly recommend.

My wife and I were led to visit this winery during our tour of the lower Rhône Valley. The owner took a couple hours of his time to explain the region, its predominant Grenache grape plantings (50% required by French law), wine classification / grading and his wines. Being from coastal California, we were seeking something a bit outside the norm.
For most of his wines he uses stainless steel to start and then moves them to toward the ancient method of maturing them in masonary as the Romans did. I understand that unlike many traditional vignerons, he uses more technology to produce his wines. These are full and rich wines with character. And enjoy his wife's home-made chutneys (including fig), olive oils among other products. A pleasant facility, and make sure to pet the sleepy dog!
Getting there requires driving, and a couple of so km outside of the delightful village of Séguret.
Bottom line: well worth a visit when in the area.

Not a ton to add to what's already been written.

Great views. Great wine. It's an especially good wine to bring home because it's tough/impossible to find in the US.

Also, good for English speakers.

We've been coming here for years to this little gem. Every year after we move into our summer rental we visit here first and stock up on these wonderful wines. Always a treat to taste through the new offerings as well as take in the endless views. Not to be missed.
