“Great holiday back in Levi”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Third time in Levi, first time in this hotel.
Liked fairly central location.
Loved our room - it was in the wing overlooking the spa. (Possibly the best room of the 3 we've experienced, though in one other hotel we had a sauna in the room.). Only problem was we thought direct access to the spa also meant direct access to the rest of the hotel which it doesn't, and the outdoor walks to breakfast & dinner weren't always enjoyable and sometimes we're very slippy.
Facilities in hotel definitely the best of the three hotels we've stayed in, mainly because of the spa.
Food here is nowhere near as bad as some other reviewers say, but in no way could it be described as 'haute cuisine'. We didn't have any problems with lukewarm food but the choices were a bit odd and/or narrow at times. Overall we think we ate well for a 3 star hotel.
We're not naming the other two hotels we've stayed in as they may since have changed. One we wouldn't stay in again, but if we're back in Levi we might still come here.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the wing overlooking the spa, and ask for room facing the front slope

Hello and warm summer greetings from Levi!

Thank You for your review and nice words about your staying in Spa Hotel Levitunturi.
You are right about the good location: just next to the slope & lifts and crosscountry skiing tracks, as well as all the shops, restaurants and other services in the centre.

Hope to see you in Levi for the fourth time, and maybe staying in one of our Juniorsuites ( room overlooking the Spa with own Sauna ) next time? :)

Facts & Tips: The daily entrance to the Experience Spa is always included in your room price!

We booked this as a ski & activity holiday. The first thing to note is the hotel is very clean and tidy. The rooms are described by some as 'basic'. To me this is one of, if not the best rooms on a ski holiday I have ever had! It was large, airy, clean, comfortable, had a safe, loads of storage, large bathroom, flat screen tv, fridge, microwave, tea and coffee making facilities, warm, quiet and the best bit by FAR it's own large drier in the batroom! What more people want / expect I do not get!? The beds were comfortable and everything was cleaned daily.
The restaurant may not be to everyones taste as the tables are an almost canteen style........very long communal tables with seating each side. To be honest we found it fine and the time we went (mid January) it was lovely and quiet! I can imagine it being a bit more hectic at peak times.
Again I have to ask really what people want when it comes to things like food!? It's a foreign country......they don't eat all the things we do back home! We found it very good indeed, the food was always hot, good quality, plentiful and varied. To be honest if you couldn't find something each night to eat then I'm afraid I'd have to say you're just very fussy!! The casseroles and fish dishes were lovely!! Each night they have two or three salad and fish / pasta type bars and the 3 to 4 hot food options. Soft drinks, tea / coffee etc is on tap. They all cater well for gluten free etc. Breakfast - again what more do people want!!? All of the above but with lovely fresh breads, varied cereals, yoghurts, fruits etc.....
Spa areas are good ad clean and we loved using all the amazing different pools after a days skiing. I also tried the massage and it is probably one of the best I have ever had and very resonably priced. Sitting in the outdoor jacuzzi in -30 watching the Aurora.........again its just an amazing experience! Hotel has lots forkids too.....bowling, video games etc
The resort is beautiful, just stunning. We avoided expensive excursions for the Northern Lights by walking down to the frozen lake (ask at hotel reception) simply stunning and made our holiday! Infact 4 out the 7 nights we saw them clearly for long periods! Husky sleighs are a must and was probably a highlight for us. Driving your own sleigh through untouched forests and over frozen lakes in an almost semi daylight was like no place I have ever experienced. Go for the longer sleigh ride is my advice! Night skidoos were fun but doing it again I'd do it in daylight! We also did the 'cammy!?' feast. This was realtively expensive but I would do this everytime! The food was just awesome! You just have to try it to see!
Ski lifts 5 min walk from hotel, my advice get a locker at the lifts and leave your stuff there, we did after 2 days of walking in ski boots and found it much easier. only about 10 euros for the week or something. Ski areas are good, something for all abilities really and the snow is excellent, slopes when we went at times were our own! It was stunning in its tranquility and beauty. Yes the drag lifts are long and can be cold, runs a little short at times but it makes up for all of his 10 fold with everything else! We took lunch and BBQ'd in the small warming huts you find at th bottom of each slope a few times. Just totally different to any other ski trip I've ever done.
We will return to this amazing place one day and would not hesitate to book this hotel. Thw whole holiday including the hotel surpassed all our expectations........

Nothing to complain. Everything was perfect: the room, the breakfast, the dinner. Excellent swimming facilities. Ski slopes are very close. There 3 different bar and restaurants. Bus stop is in front of the reception. You can rent bikes for free. Really good. I suggest it.

This is a standard hotel -- a large place that must be very busy in the winter -- but with some nice extras. The spa and water park was nice (but the spa restaurant is not very good). The rooms are large and basic. The free and easy WiFi is nice, as was the late check-out and the flexibility of the staff, This is meant as a base for winter operations and will serve well for that, particularly for those with young children.

This is a motel. Most visitors are Finns, who drive up to Lapland and park outside their block, Britons arriving by air must face the daily hazard of walking across the vast, icy car park, which is never properly gritted. This is made worse by the fact that the staff try to prevent you entering the dining room by the most convenient entry, thus making you cover another long icy track.

The buffet food is certainly plentiful, with some highlights such as wild salmon. And the buffet tables are well spread out so that there is none of the pushing that can occur in other countries. But it gets a little repetitive even withijn a week- most of the food being definitely Nordic in origin, Wine and beer are reasonably priced but it is difficult to get service. And when you get to your table by the window you may find that a waitress has place a reserved sign on it , whilst you were collecting you food.

The staff can best be described as glum and surly. No manager is visible, but his large 4x4 with its vanity plate LEV1 is very obvious in the car park.

The room which we had was excellent and the sauna was an unexpected bonus. Beds tilt at head or foot through a complicated mechanism, which we never quite mastered.

The village is very small and outside catering limited and expensive, but there is a good supermarket. Take advantage of any of the trips to ride on sleighs behind horses, reindeer or dogs, because they take you through magnificent tundra scenery with pine and birch trees - and both the animals and the mushers are more friendly than the people in the hotel.

There is a big spa and a bowling alley - but the former was packed and we could not find the bowls. Men are not allowed to swim except in skin-tight suits.

In April it was unusually warm and sunny, with the ice beginning to melt in the afternoons. A north wind kept it from becoming warm enough to sit out, except in the shelter of the hotel balcony. Beware December when it is -40.

Room Tip: Try asking for a room facing west for the evening sun, which is low and weak but gives a beautiful s...

We stayed here for new year and had a really enjoyable stay. Rooms vary dependent on which block your in. We had a family room which was basic but clean and comfortable. My parents had a room in a newer block which didn't have family rooms and their room was really smart. The biggest plus point is the spa which was just awesome. Biggest let down is the food which is buffet style. It's pretty good just a little repetitive. Also on New Years party, this was all Russian. Russian music, dj only spoke Russian, even the kids games were in Russian. Given they had circa nearly 100 English residents this was a real let down. However, would we go back, absolutely 100%. This was one of the best holidays we have ever done!!

Stayed here in February, would highly recommend. Room was excellent with separate room for our 20 year old daughter. Kitchen facility 1st class great design. Hotel is spread over several buildings so lots of trekking to and thro! Spa is fantastic especially if you have a young family. Food is plentiful if not gourmet and can get repetitive.
Levi is very cute and just a stones throw from the hotel.
Skiing in Levi is great but most slopes are reached by drag lifts and this can be hard work. Afternoons can become very dull and misty quickly, so make the most of the mornings. We booked a three day ski package, ski school was ok but we spent lots of time recapping and didn't feel that we were progressing as much as we had in previous groups, lessons were all on the front slopes and we didn't have a good understanding of where the best slopes were for us. Also ski school doesn't include the cost of ski storage and at 5.30 euros per day x3 x6 his was a significant extra cost!
Although Finland is in the euro nothing is extortionate. The trips from the hotel are well worth the money and made our holiday that little bit different and little bit more special. Enjoy

Room Tip: Rooms that connect to spa
