Lapland Hotel Sirkantahti

We stayed at the Sirkantahti the first time we ever went to Lapland, and did not know what to expect.

The rooms we stayed in for 2 adults and 2 children were very small, but we were only there for 3 nights so no big deal, but the stairs? Extremely slanted, so much so that we decided the children would sleep downstairs, and us, the adults took the upstairs to avoid any accidents.

The hotel restaurant has just been refitted, but although nice, including the bar, it lacks atmosphere, and is very quiet, so you probably would not want to go there for a night's drinking.

I don't really want to put it down with too many negatives, because it was our first trip to Lapland, and it was special to remember.

The only downside to the holiday, was the Cosmos reps, who in our opinion were useless, kids most of them with no idea about Lapland, culture, or much at all really.

Lapland, as a place absolutely fantastic :-)

Room Tip: Avoid the smaller rooms next to the restaurant, far too small. Take plenty of money, as it IS expens...

The hotel has been lovingly refurbished in contemporary nordic design and the 2 seating areas in the lounge around the fireplaces were lovely. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The half-board buffet options are good and food very nice, sometimes a little difficult if you don't eat meat/fish. Some guests ate a-la-carte and all these meals looked absolutely fantastic, lots of people took photos of their meals when they arrrived.
Location is very convenient and easy walking distance to centre of village, slopes, ski-bus, supermarket, tourist info and the lake from where to watch out for northern lights.
The hotel also offers a weekly programme covering activities like snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing excursion, walking/hiking on levi fell etc.
For a cultural experience try the Samiland exhibition at Levi Summit which hosts an interesting indoor as well as outdoor exhibition on europe's only indigenous groups the Sami. Feeding the resident reindeer with "reindeer treats" (ie lichen) was great fun!

Room Tip: Room nos around 8-10 and i think 12 onwards are good as in/near main building and close to reception...

Excellent food, friendly staff!! Rooms basic but v comfy and sauna, drying closet extra bonus! We were lucky enough not to require suiting and booting every time we went to reception /dinner which was great. Just cudve done with maids visiting but with drying closet dried our towels out before they got too bad!!

Really nice place to stay. Excellent rooms, big and spacious, Sauna in room, very close to Levi centre. Really warm even though it was around minus 20C outside! Clean and peaceful, no noise and great views on the snowy hills.

Sirkantähti is a classic hotel in Levi. At least the rooms in the main building have been refurbished, as well as the restaurant and lobby, too. A good buffet breakfast was served in the restaurant in the main building. My room was also in the main building, but you'll still have to walk few steps outdoors to get to the restaurant. The room had been refurbished, however the bathroom clearly not. Room had a sauna, two beds in the room itself + three beds on a loft. Sirkantähi is close to everything in the centre of Levi, walking distance to places. The Supermarket is also very near.
The only downside in the stay was that as there was a theatre festival in Levi going on and some of the performances took place in the hotel, also hotel guests had to pay for the admission ticket (25€) if you wanted e.g. to have a dinner in the restaurant. Therefore I chose to eat elsewhere even though they gave a 10€ discount voucher to the restaurant (and there was a -20% off the list prices campaign - restaurant had recently been opened again after the renovation). Wifi costs 2€/day.

Room Tip: Rooms with a loft are in the main building, apartments are in different buildings some 100 - 200 m f...

We stayed in the apartments which are just far enough away from the main hotel to require suiting up against the cold. This is no bad thing when travelling with children as they always want to throw themselves into the snow anyway but may be worth considering if you are not with kids.

We were full board so our comfy, compact apartment's kitchen area was used only to pour drinks and make tea. The design is exciting, even for adults. The sleeping area is a mezzanine platform reached by a ladder/staircase. The children found it thrilling to just go up to bed. Of course, being a mezzanine meant that they were able to hear everything until they finally dropped off but we didn't regard this as an issue.

Packed into the tiny space was also a shower room with and adjacent sauna. Having control over the sauna temperature meant we could allow the children in too which was fantastic after spending the day outside in the sub-zero arctic temperatures.

The hotel itself was pleasant. The staff were very helpful and the food was beautifully presented and pretty tasty if a little samey for the children after four nights.

Being in an apartment meant that we didn't really explore the hotel's facilities hugely but the fact we plan to go again should tell you how nice it was. A magical Christmas complemented by decent accommodation.
