The Upper Eastside is modern and very clean. Average to small rooms sizes but they include everything one would need. The staff is super friendly. They only advertise a shuttle to/from the V&A Waterfront, however they will gladly take you anywhere in the city if they have someone available to drive. They have secure underground parking if you have a car. They also give you 30 minutes of free wifi a day.

The only real downside is that it's in a light industrial area. It's not walkable to anything, but there is a restaurant and bar on sight and a small convenience store right across the street from the main entrance. It's right off Main Rd so it's 10 minutes to get to the city center or Rondebasch. It also is a few blocks from two freeways. Cab rides to anywhere in the city are pretty cheap also.

And their breakfast might have been the only thing overpriced in all of Cape Town.

Otherwise a great hotel!!

The stay started in a bizarre fashion bu being told to pay the bill before I had even seen our room! Room small and attention to detail disappointing. The view over an industrial garage lockup facility - withthe mountain in the background- was grim. This hotel is ok but with the choices available ib Cape Town......I won't be back.

This new hotel has very well equipped and clean rooms. The staff is very friendly. The service is outstanding. The price very fair. If you stay there the restaurant is a must. Perfect meal to a very reasonable price.

It is not right in the city center. Taxi to Long street will cost about 80 Rand. But it can also easily reached by car also without GPS. A lot of factory-outlet-centers are directly located in the neighbourhood.

Wifi is available but not for free.

The hotel has the most amazing colour theme flowing through it and is nicely settled in an unassuming part of Cape Town. If you are in Cape Town for business, its the most central spot you can find. There are factory shops around the corner if you into good quality savings shopping!

The food is amazing, the staff unbelievable, and the ambience is awesome! The prices right now are extremely good!

First the good – this is a new, very clean hotel and the appointments in the room are quite nice. We were first booked into the standard “superior” room which was very small with a shower but no tub – about the size of a cabin on a cruise ship - so we asked for an upgrade to a better room, which was closer in size to a standard US hotel room. The bed, linens, and all else were very nice and comfortable. In addition the hotel staff is extremely customer focused, yearning to help, resulting in exceptional service. But none of this can overcome that which can and cannot be changed that severely detracts from the positive nature of this hotel.

The hotel is new, in fact too new. Only the second floor of the five room floors was fully operational as of September 2010 – and some of those rooms have a window facing an atrium, which is a safety concern. Because the hotel is still under construction, there are the associated construction noises from saws, hammers and other tools plus fumes from recently sprayed lacquer and paint. In addition, the internet service was spotty (and costly). These deficiencies will likely improve in the future but there are other more serious concerns which should prevent tourists from using this hotel.

The hotel was constructed for the 2010 World Cup and is situated in Woodstock – a generally derelict area composed of light industry, thrift shops and boarded up store fronts. The hope is that with time, Woodstock becomes gentrified and this hotel is supposed to help achieve that goal.

The hotel is located on a side road off a main road, which is fine for keeping road noise down but there is no outside noise to speak of because there is absolutely no activity in the area at night. There were no restaurants in the area – except for the one small restaurant in the hotel (and we were told that the hotel is planning to open a few shops within the hotel). We were warned by the hotel staff, because of the especially high crime rate in the area, not to walk anywhere at night outside the hotel – which was easy to comply with as there is no place to go. The hotel is about 10 km from the vibrant waterfront area – a 15 to 20 minute taxi ride which cost from 90 to 110 Rand (about $12) each way. The hotel operates one small (minivan) shuttle that is free, but it is frequently not available as sometime it is booked by other guests or groups – plus it does not operate after 11 PM.

Because a car is required in order go anywhere conveniently, it looks like this hotel will cater to South African guests and business meetings as it has a small conference center. Additionally it seems like this hotel will also be a local attraction for singles, as it does advertise itself as catering to singles and the weekend crowd appears to be into the bar and music scene.

The bottom line is, unfortunately, that foreign tourists should absolutely avoid this hotel. The price is less than hotels in the waterfront area but the inconveniences and location more than offset the difference in cost, especially if one has to use a taxi multiple times during the day. None of the people we were with indicated that they would return. It’s a shame because the staff is so good.
