Pros: the interior design of the hotel is fun, staff pleasant, breakfast superb. You can use the hotel's shuttle service to the V&A waterfront.

Cons: the hotel is set in the Woodstock area, which is basically an area where you find factories, call centres, scrapyards. I took a taxi to the V&A waterfront, which cost 100 rand, because I thought the shuttle service was too late in the morning. Also, I had transport arranged through the hotel from the airport. Even though the taxi metre showed 200 rand, the hotel charged 350 (!!!) rand for the service,

This hotel used to be good but has deteriorated rapidly over the past few months. Service is terrible and staff are just not interested.

Such thought has gone into this hotel. I wish I had known about it when we came to Cape Town for the Kylie concert as they have free shuttles to big events. They also have a free shuttle to and from the waterfront every hour or so. This allows you to park your hired car and take the shuttle to dinner, enjoy a glass of wine with dinner and take the shuttle back without worrying about drink driving limits. Having said that, we however opted to eat at the hotel as we were intrigued by a tasty looking menu. We weren't disappointed! The food was wonderful, simple, elegant, well prepared and well presented. The staff are all young, vibey and energetic, no grumpy dead wood here! The barman
knows just about any cocktail or beverage!

The only thing that we needed to change was the room. I was sharing with my daughter and we asked for a twin room and were checked into a lovely huge twin room, but with a really grand "open plan" bathroom. This is a little thought less. There was nothing wrong with the room or the bathroom, but why make it a twin, not a double? People sharing asking for twin beds are more likely to want bathrooms with more privacy. Anyway, after asking for another room, we were pleasantly ushered into the most perfect of twin rooms with the most perfect of bathrooms!

I will definitely seek this hotel out again and loved staying here. Also such a pleasure not getting ripped off with the usual ridiculous Cape Town hotel internet rip-off charges. When you get so many restaurants and pubs offering free Wi-Fi why do they charge unbelievably high rates at other Cape Town hotels?

Lots of the other reviewers refer to this part of town as being less than desirable. This is only half true, especially if you need to browse through a gazillion factory shops during the day, all within a 5 minute stroll. The area is very desirable from a travel point of view as its quick to get to freeways and almost anywhere. the location was probably a smart choice for the owners as it will pay off in the long run.

Room Tip: Ask what type of bathroom you will get with your room, as it may or may not suit you. I would really...

I used to live in Cape Town, but moved to the Eastern Cape 2 years ago. I still go back to Cape Town and stayed in several hotels before, but the Upper Eastside was the best experience. The service was out of this world. Friendly staff, good food and a lovely room. I am already planning on staying there on my next visit to Cape Town and will bring my hubby with. You are the best!!!

What a wonderful hotel - stunning architectural designs, great service at reception, room service and the restaurant (divine food).

Absolutely loved the Loft Suite room - great view of table mountain kitted with all the necessarily amenities to make you feel right at home.

What a little surprised to pay for overnight parking (R40) seeing as though we were staying in the hotel.

Highly recommended this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Will definitely go back there :)

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of Table Mountain :)

We live in Cape Town and needed a break from the daily humdrum of our lives, but on a budget. The Upper East Side was our first choice, as we had stayed there previously, but on a room only basis. This time we went "large" by booking an apartment - and what an experience it was!
Upon entering the lobby, you are surrounded by sumptious pieces which are modern AND comfortable, in beautiful jewel colours. Immaculately appointed apartment, modern lounge, dining room and kitchen (with private espresso/cappuccino machine), a balcony with a little bit of a view, stairs going up to a large comfy room with in-room bath, shower and toilet (the shower and toilet behind frosted glass doors, so a modicum of pricy is afforded!).
The apartment was clean and spacious and all the electronics worked. The linens were crisp and clean smelling, and the bath and shower products were luxurious - not the public toilet, skin-stripping varieties usually found in hotels. The other thing we love about this hotel is that the parking is free! At other city hotels, they charge an arm and a leg to park (anything from R60-120 per night!).

We did not let the area get to us. It is like finding an oasis in the middle of a concrete jungle! Getting to the CBD takes about 5 minutes, maybe a bit more in rush hour traffic, but getting into town is not a problem.

One thing that can be improved is the fluffiness of their towels, but that is neither here nor there.

We has so much fun, we didn't want to leave. But I know we will be back.
