We have stayed at the Upper Eastside hotel for 7 nights. It was our first week of our honeymoon.

Location:

1) It was in a creepy neighborhood, I wouldn't recommend walking at night.

2) Not many taxies know the place.

3) From hotel to the waterfront it costs about 150 ZAR, the way back it cost about 200 ZAR.

4) The hotel had shuttles that take you to the waterfront.

Services:

1) Check-in was flawless.

2) Staff was friendly.

3) There is some stores and small grocery in the lobby.

4) Breakfast was good ( For Muslims guests, tell them that you want halal food and they will provide.)

5) We had a burger from room service and it was fine. The order came fast.

6) The concierge was friendly and very helpful in making reservations and recommendations.

7) Room keeping was bad. We had a major issue with Towels, it takes a very long time to bring towels 15+min and sometimes they ignore you. since you will be requesting towels a lot because they will take the old ones and don’t replace them.

Room:

1) The room was good.

2) The view of the room was bad due to the location.

3) The bathroom was big and really nice; it had huge bathtub and separate shower.

I came with a group of 13 people and stayed for 4 nights. Very impressed with their big spacious lobby and checked in was done within 3 minutes- no kidding!

The rooms were large and spacious with a large area for the working table. Out of the 6 rooms we took 1 room for a family of 3 was giving problem with the aircond. For 2 nights they could not have it repaired and this upset our guests very much. What happened to Hilton standard? We checked out after 2 days to visit the Safari and returned and this time check in took so long and they missed out one room . All the reservations i made about 3 weeks before arrival through South African Hotels .

Charl from the Sales Department was quick to arrange in the rooms small pails for us to take ablutions and wash ourselves as they do not have bidet and water hose. Their bathrooms are large and even after adding 1 bidet, they would still have plenty of space to walk about. These are important for a Muslim group.

However, the plus points there we find the staffs from all the departments extremely friendly, warm & polite. Breakfast were good though not so extensive and the service staff were attentive except on a day or two when they were full house with lots of conferences etc.

I organized and ordered a farewell buffet dinner for the group and everyone gave excellent remarks & comments on the food served. The hotel is out of the CBD area but they provide shuttle services for house guests. Its close to the airport and also to many factory outlets which made the female members in the group very happy. They have small food outlets that sells Korean & Italian food within the hotel complex but these are privately run and the price are very reasonable. You can find small grocery stores outside close to the hotels and also some restaurants conveniently located nearby .

Though with some glitches, i will not hesitate to come back to stay with the next group in 2014

This time the Soulman is on business again in Cape Town. After the disastrous stay at the Three Cities Inn on the Square earlier this year a better alternative was needed! The Double Tree Hilton Cape Town Upper Eastside was exactly what I was looking for: Good location in Woodstock, great rooms (big rooms to be exact!), great service and wonderful staff. Not exactly in the middle of Cape Town, but close to all businesses and tourist attractions. At most a short taxi ride from any point of interest. The best: the prices are very moderate compared to other hotels in Cape Town. I would recommend this place for bsiness and pleasure. I will be back again!

Had a 3 night stay here. Impressive lobby & large room. Woodstock is an interesting area not on the tourist trail. This will probably change in the next couple of years. The shuttle bus was a great asset, but it would be good if the hotel could extend this especially for the night owls!

Location was away from the CBD but only a 10 minute taxi ride for US$ 6 - 10. Staff were fantastic. Rooms are modern. Food and service are great but there are also plenty of restaurants not far away (few minutes by car/taxi) A non-central (very quiet at weekends) area on the border of Woodstock - seemed safe enough. Internet is coupon based. You cannot buy uncapped service but can get a 1Gbyte voucher. Doesn't remember your device so that's a bit inconvenient. Happy to recommend this. Didn't give excellent grade due to a couple of minor niggles which the staff did their best to solve. The niggles did not distract from my stay. Very highly recommended and great value for money!

We arrived as a group to find that they only had two rooms for us even though three had been booked, and three names were were not on their system, despite a member of our group having confirmed the booking not more than 48 hours before. The reception staff were unfriendly and cold and gave the impression that the mess up was somehow our fault. They also got the check out date wrong on their check in forms. The hotel's token of apology was a bottle of wine with no label on it and a bowl of inedible fruit. If you order room service, don't order anything except toasted sandwiches: a Camembert and onion burger was missing the Camembert, meat was burned on the outside and raw on the inside. The room was clean enough and ok as a place to sleep while exploring the city and surrounds. The concierge Brandon was great, I can highly recommend using his services to explore Cape Town and further afield.
