“Excellent Hotel!”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Should you ever find yourself in Cape Town, South Africa and a seeking secure, comfortable and well located hotel, then this is the place! Located just outside the central city, allows you to readily explore the city - a 5 minute drive would get you to the city! You're close enough to all the attractions the city has to offer, yet out of the general hussle and bustle that you would normally experience in Cape Town over the summer holidays. If you're on the upper floor in one of the suites ask them to locate you on the side that is not windward tho as it can get rather loud.....the wind in CT is GUSTY :) The staff were pleasant and the suites were beautifully maintained. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely use it again!

Room Tip: While a mountain view is lovely, this also happens to be the windward side so you'll have loud g...

If I had any idea as to the size of the room I was booking, I would never have chosen the room we did. It was so ridiculously small you couldn't move around and there was insufficient space for our suitcases and also very little wardrobe space.

I stayed here for just under a week for a training and a conference. The hotel is lovely and the staff are very friendly and helped me print things at reception when I didn't want to use the business centre. The hotel is bright, clean and comfortable and free wifi is included. The food is also very good, both in terms of breakfast and lunch/dinner options.

The biggest drawback is the location - it's about a 15 minute drive from the city centre, but there are always taxis available in from of the hotel, and the hotel offers a shuttle service to the Waterfront from where you can also take a taxi to the centre. The cost of a taxi to the centre was usually between £4 and £7, depending on the taxi company.

Given the £ to rand exchange rate at the time of travelling (Dec 2013), we only paid about £80 for a room, which I thought was a very good deal.

Room Tip: We were part of a group booking that appeared to have allocated us rooms randomly - I had a very lar...

All in all the hotel is very average and wouldnt recommend it for anyone other than a business traveller. The location is really poor and a fair distance from all the main attractions, the surrounding neighbourhood is pretty rundown as well. Rather spend the extra money and stay in the City Centre, Seapoint, Greenpoint....

We ended up being upgraded to a suite and wow this was a great room. We arrived at 12:15am and were promptly welcomed. The staff was courteous and did everything to make our stay pleasant. We even asked for a late check out and they did not complain (even though it was new year's eve). Love this hotel and would recommend others stay here. Only issue is that it is not walking distance to some of the tourist sites.

We were a family of 2 adutls + 2 kids and booked a penthouse apartment at the top floor with very high qualiy of rooms and excellent staff available at all time. We did not like the internett/wi fi solutions which was restricted to a certain amount of mbites per room each day during our stay. Will only stay here again if there is unlimited wi fi provided during the whole stay.

A very hard to beat Hotel choice in Cape Town

The string of dozens of strong reviews before mine sum the Hotel up.

Odd location, but once inside a real GEM of a Hotel.

We stayed here for a few days late August, and loved it so much we flew 10,000 miles from Sydney to stay again for a week - for New Year’s Eve 2014.

It is NOT central city, so if you need to be in daily meetings in town, or in midst of high-end shopping, this may not be your first choice.

For anyone else however, be hard to beat. A cab to city is only $US5 to $10, and Hotel has a free shuttle to the Waterfront area etc all day.

Car hire in Cape Town is really dirt cheap, and cab to airport is 250 Rand each way, so grabbing a car at airport makes perfect sense as daily secure parking here costs just R40 a day ($US4!) as at January 2014.

Room Rates seemed super attractive to me compared to many central downtown Cape Town places. Each of our stays I got a decent rate on the top floor Suites, and if you see them at a good rate DO grab them.

Double storey suites, with large balcony looking over city, and VERY well appointed inside. Small kitchenettes really, with large sofas, dining table, large desks etc. 2 Bathrooms, 2 TVs etc. Everything you need.

If you want real value for money, and the feeling you really ARE experiencing luxury, this is the room type to book.

Staff at every level I found friendly and efficient, and more important - seemed happy to be working there.

We’d flown in from a week in Ghana - where hotel staff universally were sullen, bored, sloppy about whatever they were doing, and often could barely be understood.

So Doubletree Cape Town was SUCH a pleasant change for the next week.

As a Hilton Gold member for decades, the high speed internet WiFi is automatically free globally at Hiltons. And so is the expansive and pleasing breakfast – a real feature of the hotel, and many of the room packages seem to offer breakfast with them.

We had breakfast on New Year’s Day, and half of Cape Town appeared to be there, many with bleary looking eyes!

Even the General Manager Francois was in the fray, directing traffic, and assisting with the mass of guests - great to see Management on the “shop floor” in high volume situations like that.

I have travelled to 130 countries, and have stayed in everything from a Suite in the Waldorf Astoria New York, to a primitive Lemur Jungle Lodge with no power in Madagascar.

So I have a very good handle on what a good property is – and what is not!

This is above average value - very high marks.

Room Tip: Room Rates seemed super attractive to me compared to many central downtown Cape Town places.
