Having been strongly discouraged from staying at other places in Ruteng, both by online reviews and by my guides, I have booked into Hotel Susteran.
This isn't really s hotel, but more of a convent that rents out rooms on the side.
The main positives are, the cleanliness and the hot water. Hot water rates a special mention as it was easy to control the temperature, which is normally fairly difficult in Asian counties. It also had a full size bar of soap which was handy in preventing me from dropping it.
My room had 2 single beds and a tiny bathroom. There was enough space to walk between the beds but that was about it. The bathroom did smell a bit and there was no separator for the shower on the floor only a curtain, resulting in significant bathroom floor space covered in water while showing.
Breakfast was served at 7:30am and was quite insubstantial, including 1 fried egg, some bread with jam and a self serving of bananas, tea and rice.
I shouldn't really complain though as I got the room for 140k rp per night.
