“Nice little place”
Reviewed 22 January 2014 via mobile

I've been to Whistlers a few times for lunch but this was the first time I've been for an evening meal. I want with some friends and it was their first visit there.

Firstly they served food past 9pm!!

I like Whistlers, it's relaxed and casual and there seems to be a good mixed crowd at weekends (from what I've send walking in) but this was mid week and very quiet.

We ate from the special steak menu 2courses for £17.95, the steak was great all cooked to the three different ways we wanted, though two were served to the wrong person - no big deal.

I'm not sure why it doesn't get a five I think it could just be a bit more special as it's just perhaps a little sparse to be a lovely restaurant. eg aluminium place mats that look like stair treads seem incongruous to the wooden tables and platters and warm walls etc.

But saying all that I'll definitely be back again.

“Bistro-style”
Reviewed 8 October 2013

Very relaxed environment and a menu to suit all tastes. Many dishes use local produce and all are cooked and presented with care and imagination. Very good (and very generous sized) pizzas freshly cooked in a pizza oven on the premises. Very pleasant bar area and comforatble, casual restaurant. Good value for money and friendly service.

“nice venue but unexciting food.”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

The venue is lovely overlooking the town.Sitting on the balcony (although rather narrow) you could almost kid yourself you were in sunnier and more exotic climbs. The food sadly is a let down. No real sense of style in the cooking. I wouldn't suggest that you don't eat here just don't expect to be pleasantly surprised, which i think is real shame as this place could be amazing due to the interior and location.

“Great setting for a nice meal”
Reviewed 16 April 2013

We had lunch at Whistlers - 2 courses for £11 (I think!) and the choice and food were good, with attentive service. The decor was bright, light and airy. Starters included black pudding salad (v nice) and calamari (a bit bland). Mains were good, fish with pesto sauce and some veg, and steak and chips which was reasonable. Typical over-indulgent puds, probably bought in, but they hit the spot.
This is a good place to go for a meal out whilst exploring or shopping. It's a competent set up, with good food at a reasonable price. It won't blow you away but it will be pleasant.
