“See the real Italy, meet the real Italian people!"”

Amazing down to earth people with a quiet spot to recharge. Less than 10k drive to Siena; easy access to Florence, Chianti region, Montalcino, etc.

If your travel style is with camera and Rick Steve's in hand, these well-furnished villa apartments in the countryside may not be your preference. But, if you want to really live la dolce vita and enjoy waking to birds singing or toasting a Tuscan sunset, you will love this place.

Check directions ahead when you travel because the usual highway exit is closed for reconstruction (requires slight but scenic reroute as of June, 2011).

There are only three main villa apartments so you never feel crowded. Other guests are from all over Europe and North America. We meet really great people every year. (part of the whole experience; even poking fun at the Californians having trouble with the whole "relax" concept!).

This was my fourth year at Poggio Antico, spending full two-weeks of vacation here as "base" and venturing out to explore Tuscany on day trips or just going for walks and reading by the pool. Traveling with friends and family, we save a LOT by cooking our own meals at the apartment plus having the freedom to eat whenever we feel hungry. And, dining "in" means no worry about driving after a few glasses...

Yeah, this is a raving review but the experience at Poggio Salvi is real and so is the recommendation.

If you are looking or somewhere to stay close to Siena, this should be the one you choose. It is in a beautiful, quiet location. The apartments are lovely, and the grounds are well taken care of. The owner and his wife are delightful. My Husband and I never wanted to leave! All of the main towns are within day trip distance, and very easy to drive to. If we come back to Tuscany, we will stay here again, and I would advise anyone else to do the same!

We stayed at Poggio Salvi for 4 nights after a week of touring Rome, Venice and Florence. It was quiet, quaint, and cozy. We had a rental car (GPS a must) and went out each morning to tour villages in Tuscany, returning in the evening to cook dinner or go to a nearby restaurant. We stayed at Massimo's smallest "apartment", which was an open concept living room, bedroom & kitchen, with a nice bathroom. It was very clean and fully furnished. Massimo was a wonderful host, and the property was such that we could go out for a walk or sit in the yard and enjoy the sunset. There is a chalkboard next to the wine spiget, so you just mark down how much wine you put in your pitcher and pay at the end. The washing machine also had a chalkboard by it to mark how many loads you washed. Poggio Salvi was a wonderful experience. We will stay there again if we ever return to Italy!

This was our second visit to Poggio Salvi, staying in the same apartment Il Glicine.
Massimo, the owner, lives on the estate and was always friendly and helpful. The apartment was well appointed and very clean and comfortable. We loved being able to buy wine by the carafe from his vineyard. S. Rocco a Pilli (less than 10 mins away) has an excellent supermarket, patisserie, and other shops. It is an excellent base from which to explore the hill towns of Tuscany, and of course Siena. We even took the bus to Florence. There was nothing we did not like and we hope to be able to return for another stay.
