Chateau de la Puisaye
Reviewed 28 September 2011

We loved this grand chateau with comfortable rooms (and bathrooms), and being welcomed en famille in the salon and dining room, by our charming chatelaine.

My wife and I return here every year - we simply love it. Chateau de la Puisaye has delightfully furnished period bedrooms rooms and the mattresses are wonderful. The grounds are vast, include a wood, and you can take many lovely walks around the surrounding area. Very romantic.

Diana and Bruno (the owners) couldn't do more to help if you need it (though they'll happily leave you to your own devices if you prefer) - a pot of tea, a bottle of wine, booking local restaturants, suggesting local walks or showing you the latest additions to the chateau's wildlife.

For us, Normandy's best kept secret.

We stayed at the hotel for one night and found the place to be charming and welcoming. It is located in a lovely countryside with the natural park around it. It is the perfect place to unwind and relax. The hotel is a beautiful chateaux dated from early 19th century.

We stayed in a family suite which is a large 2 bedroom apartment. The rooms are comfortable and cosy with modern amenities. One room was a double bedroom and another triple room. The rooms are spacious and decorated in pleasant colours. My child was treated with a box of toys in the room to play with when we arrived. It was really appreciated.... we had a time to unpack!

We spend time walking in the woods, playing with the pets which are really friendly and didn’t resist my 2 year olds “abuse”. There is something for everyone.

It is a really beautiful place to stay; it has everything the comfort, entertainment, charm. ! I will definitely stay there again and will recommend to everyone, especially with the young children!

The moment Diana Costes Brook opened the door and showed us into her lovely home we felt the strain of a long journey fading away. Both Diana, and the house, are completely welcoming in a very relaxing way. The chambre de Potager was perfect - huge, full of light, supremely comfortable and with a splendid bathroom. We greatly enjoyed a long walk through the park and then sat for a while admiring the water lilies flowering in the pond and agreeing that we had found a marvellous place to stay!
Diana offers three types of evening meal - the first to book decides which one - and we chose the Normandy platter which was the lightest of the three. The great plates of local meats, cheeses, salad, fruit tart and enormous bowl of strawberries from Diana's garden were accompanied by wine or cider and provided us with a delicious meal which was more than ample but left us with plenty of energy next morning to continue our journey.
If TripAdvisor has a 'favourites list' for the person you would most like to open the door when you arrive at a chambre d'hotes then I would nominate Diana. I cannot think of a single thing she has forgotten when caring for her guests. Instead of being just a brief last night's stay on our way home Chateau de la Puisaye is now a favourite memory of a lovely holiday in France.

Stayed here with a few friends for a nearby wedding. Lovely house - clean, airy, nicely furnished, large garden - with easy-going, friendly atmosphere and delightful pets. Really comfy beds, with fresh cotton sheets, and delicious breakfasts. Our hostess couldn't have been more helpful, organising meals, taxis etc for us. A lovely place to make day trips from or just chill. We could happily have stayed longer.

We were traveling through Normandy with our two sons, aged 21 and 25. We stayed one night at the chateau de la puisaye. We wished that we could have stayed longer.
Our host, Diana Costes Brook (a retired barrister) was warm and friendly. We had her cook a dinner for us which used fresh local ingredients and was delicious. The breakfast even included eggs and bacon, unlike the usual croissant and coffee.
The rooms had cozy beds with great sheets and comforters.
The grounds were great for walks and the family dogs will walk with you.

We were a group of five newly 50 year old school friends plus families and friends, making a party of 18 (7 of these children!). To make the party special we found this chateau in the heart of French countryside between Rouen and Paris. It turned out to be a very good choice indeed.

Diana, the English hostess made us very welcome. She was totally unflappable even when faced with the diverse demands, dietary and otherwise, of such a large group. She cooked a delicious 4 course grand dinner for the adults which was served in the grand dining room in the chateau. The breakfasts were very French (croissants and homemade jam) with a twist of English (egg and bacon also on offer). All the food she served were first class.

Some of the party stayed in the nearby gite. This included a fully equipped kitchen so on the last night we had a barbecue party.

The chateau is gorgeous, just the right balance of history and comfort. It was grand, but lived in, so the children instantly felt at home. It also has extensive grounds including some woods and is in easy pleasant walking distance of Verneuil, so v. convenient for boozy lunches there.

Nothing was too much trouble for Diana - she organized baby sitters, special birthday cakes, recommended activities.

All in all, it was a fantastic party mainly thanks to Diana and her family.
