“wonderful place, lovely family”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2013

We recently spent 3 nights with Francesca and David (and their assorted and very friendly cats, dogs, and bambini) at Agriturismo Tara. The property is lovely, with good views of the Umbrian countryside. The rooms are well decorated, quiet and comfortable. The pool is great. Breakfasts, with Francesca's fabulous baking, are wonderful. There is excellent attention to detail and to ensuring guests are comfortable. Francesca and David were unbelievably helpful in orienting us to the area and advising on restaurants and towns. They have olive trees and a small vineyard; we tasted lovely olive oil and their red wine. We learned a lot about growing olives and grapes. Tara is a little outside Amelia, a wonderful small hill town with an interesting history. Orvieto and Spoleto and other small hill towns were not far. We highly recommend a stay at Tara.

Room Tip: lavender room is a bit bigger.

What a perfect find. We were bowled over by every aspect of Tara. The friendly welcome, the delightful rooms ( we had the superb lavender room), the wonderful swimming pool, the breakfasts with absolutely delicious home made cakes, ( the apple cake was the best I've ever had), the exclusive linen, towels and sheets were of top quality, the lovely pets ( delightful well behaved Cicero and Mierto plus cats, and the engaging triplets - watching them have their daily swimming lesson was a delight. Everything was the best it could be, Francesca and David are attentive, helpful and knowledgeable hosts - they booked a wonderful anniversary meal for us at a local hotel - with a special table overlooking Amelia. We will definitely return. Thank you for a special stay. It was perfect.

If you're looking for luxurious accommodations in the Umbrian region, look no further. Tara (yes, named after the plantation in Gone with the Wind) is a fabulous Agriturismo on the outskirts of Amelia's countryside. Tara's warm and incredibly helpful hosts, Francesca and David along with their adorable triplets are the most amazing family. It doesn't take long to be welcomed into their family and home and realize the wonderous experience that you are undertaking being at Tara. The rooms are tastefully and creatively decorated as the 10 acre property has recently been featured in one of the upscaled European chic country living magazines. The bed was incredibly comfortable (for those who miss their own beds while traveling) as well as the room being ample size, complete with a mini frig. The attention to detail was evident, from bathrobes to bottled water in the rooms. Our room,(the red room) overlooked the luscious olive groves and grape vineyard as well as the pristine pool which was a wonderful 85 degrees, with room for lap swimming and sunning on the veranda. The sumptious breakfasts are typically Italian: yogurt, ham and cheese,cappuccinos/espressos, fresh fruit and an array of deliciously fresh baked goods made by Francesca herself! Francesca and David are the quintessential hosts, knowledgeable of all types of regional actvities, points of interests and restaurants. Those of you who are animal lovers will also get to know their 2 dogs and 4 cats, but like their host family, they, too, are friendly but never intrusive. Francesca and David enjoyed sharing their experiences as well as listening to ours as we watched the magnificient sunsets nightly. Tara's location is perfect for day trips to neighboring towns such as Orvieto, Narni, Perugia, Assisi and Todi. It is centrally located in Italy and if you ever feel the need of a more urban stop, Rome is also close enough to drive for the day. Without a doubt, Tara bears a repeat visit as it is truly il meglio del meglio!

We can only echo the other recent reviews. We spent a week at this delightful Agriturismo and absolutely loved it. Francesca and David are warm and friendly hosts for whom nothing is too much trouble. Our room was spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed. The towels and bed linens were of very high quality, there was plenty of space for our belongings and the bed was comfortable. We stayed in the Red Room which has a very good ensuite shower room. Breakfasts were delicious and Francesca's cakes are truly wicked! The garden and pool are very well maintained and the pool is large enough for a proper swim. Francesca was a mine of information about places to see and she booked us into some excellent restaurants for dinner in the evenings. At the end of our stay we could not think of a single thing that could have been done better - praise indeed.

Room Tip: The Lavender Room is the largest, with windows on two sides, but it has a bath with a hand held show...

As an experienced traveller, I have stayed in all sorts of places, both good and bad. People who know me, say I am overly critical, always finding fault with this and that. I thought I had seen it all. However, I was absolutely blown over by Tara.
Our three night stay was absolutely fabulous! The only thing that disappointed me was that we had not booked a longer stay.
This being a great location from which to tour southern Umbria, we made day trips to the old roman settlement at Carsulae, the amazing Orvieto and of course the charming Amelia nearby.
But no matter where we went, we made sure we got back to Tara early, so that we could enjoy this beautiful house and relax for an hour or two by the lovely swimming pool (no chlorine, beautiful surroundings) in the early evening sun.
Our hosts David and Francesca made us feel more than welcome and they were just great in helping us to decide which places to see and which restaurants to eat at. All their tips were 100% accurate.
I could not imagine staying at a nicer place.
Mile Grazie!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Lavendar room. Everything about the room was excellent. Top Quality. But make sure...

We stayed three nights at this wonderful house situated in beautiful Umbrian countryside within 5 mins drive of the wonderful little old town of Amelia, 1 h from Orvieto and many other tourist attractions. Francesca and David are wonderful, warmhearted and extremely helpful hosts ("will I give them a quick ring to reserve a table? Wait, I'll just find out if they are open today"), the house is spotless and the interior decoration of all rooms and the breakfast area (lovely buffet with a choice of home-baked cakes) is so tasteful that it actually featured in a well-known Italian interior decoration magazine. This was the perfect stay all round - and I am not easily pleased. If I could give 6 stars for service - I would.

My family spent two nights at Tara this month, and it was wonderful! It is not very far from Rome, but it is in the heart of some of the best-kept secrets of Italy, which Francesca and David were SO happy to share with us! They provided hospitality, a cozy place to stay and such a friendly atmosphere that we will definitely be going back!
