The Zuri Resort appears to be slowly decaying. While our stay there was pleasant, evidence of lack of routine maintenance was very noticeable.
In our room the hot water pot was broken, the screen between the bathroom and bedroom was off track, paint is beginning to peel. Furniture looks worn as does the floors. Outside furniture looks especially worn. With all water in the area, the grass was turning brown.
We booked a reservation at their Bass Seafood restaurant. It opens at 7:00pm.
We made reservations for 7:30 pm. Got there at 7:20, the chef had not arrived nor was the kitchen turned on. They said they only had 2 reservations. We declined to eat there and went to their buffet in the main restaurant. On the way over we saw the chef riding over with food. With only 2 reservations, it is obvious that the seafood would not be fresh.
Be very careful at the pool - palm plants have been placed in front of the steps forcing one to attempt to enter where the water jets are. Both my wife and I fell as the attendant looked on!!
Service everywhere is a little slow.
Finally, we fell victim to a state wide strike and asked to be allowed a late checkout since we could not leave the hotel until 5:00. Unfortately they were not real sympathic - had to spend 6 hours in a very hot lobby! They said rooms had already been booked, but the traffic during our 5 hour stay in the lobby did not appear to bear that out. I would stay here again despite what issues I saw. It is a good 4 star.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for choosing Kumarakom as a Destination for your stay,
We have noted your feedback and assure you that product up gradation and general facade upkeep is a continuous process which we follow diligently.
Proper mowing is one of the most important practices in keeping our lawn healthy. This practice is followed and it takes two weeks for fresh growth to happen,
Karimeen ,Jumbo Prawns and Sear Fish are the specialty of the destination and rest assured the catch served in the restaurant is fresh everyday.
Also the lagoon guest activity includes fishing and the prize catch is prepared as per guest palate by the Chef.
We try to accommodate and provide late check-out under unforeseen circumstances like state wide Strike/Hartal subject to availability of Rooms since we need to manage our early arrivals too.

Each room has excellent facilities with a large well appointed bathroom.
The buffet style food offers a range of food especially a variety of vegetarian . Prices are reasonable and service is first class .a daily happy hour helps the pocket.
A good pool in a relaxing setting adds to the enjoyment.

We had high expectations of this resort as we were told that it was 5 star. The welcome was quite nice - we each received a fresh coconut while we waited to check-in. We were taken by buggy to our hotel and the grounds were beautiful. But that’s where it ended! We were disappointed when we walked into our rooms to see that they were not up to 5 star standards – the décor was old and needed refurbishment. There were 3 of us staying in the cottage. We noticed that we were having difficulties with wifi – it kept disconnecting. When we queried this with reception we were told that they only provide free wifi for one device per room & charge 500 rupees per extra device for 24 hours. I thought this was ridiculous – especially as we are paying for 3 people and because they do not state this on their booking site – they only say ‘free wifi is available’. We spoke to the manager and they said that they will provide us with free wifi for another device, which was better than nothing, but still quite ridiculous! We had important emails to send whilst we were staying at the Zuri and it was quite an inconvenience being logged on and off constantly because we could only use 2 devices at one time! To top it off, the water in our bathroom was brown. We called reception and they sent someone to look into it, but after 1.5 hours he was not able to fix it. We waited 3 hours in total and finally we complained and said that we wanted an upgrade. They told us to wait while they searched for another room. They then called us back and said they didn’t have an upgrade but did have another cottage so we moved into there. The next day the manager was very apologetic and kindly offered us dinner on the house, which we appreciated.

I don’t know if this is particularly an Indian thing, but we found the taxes added to the food and accommodation ridiculously high. A simple lunch alone went from over 1,000 rupees to 2,000 with taxes!!!! I would however like to point out that the staff at the restaurant were all very friendly and extremely helpful. They were probably the highlight of the resort. The massages were also very expensive and we believe too expensive – they are more expensive than what we pay in Australia. We had just come from Cambodia and paid less than half that price for a Khmer massage at our hotel. We were also given complimentary massages, as part of the welcome at the resort we stayed at in Cambodia. Zuri was far from welcoming in this regard.

This resort is very beautiful and the grounds have been kept extremely well, but unfortunately this is not the only requirement to make a resort beautiful and successful on the whole. I think they need to put the same effort into their décor - it is run down and shabby. If they invested a little more money into refurbishing their tables, beds and couches I think they would meet the standard of a 5 star resort, but definitely not at this level. I can understand this being a nice resort for middle class Indians coming there for their first backwaters luxury, but unfortunately that’s all it seems to be catered for, and not for the well-travelled western customer, who is expecting 5 star accommodation – based on the normal 5 star rating.

Last year we visited the Leela in Kovalam and we were impressed with their establishment and service. This proves that luxury resorts can meet that satisfaction of western travellers as well as Indian. We can see that the Zuri definitely has potential to meet up to the 5 star level, but unfortunately there a many areas where they fall short. It is not only the décor itself. I believe that they need to bring in a little more of a western influence into this hotel – eg: adding a better western infusions menu. We also found that this is a very family orientated resort, which we did not expect. This can be quite off-putting for singles and couples, who just want to relax by the pool. We recommend certain areas of the resort for families and other areas for adults only. We found our pool experience very disappointing when we had children splashing around and screaming in the pool – we could have paid 10 times less and just gone to the local family aquatic centre for that!!

We planned to escape the splashing and screaming of kids at the pool by soaking in the spa, but once we reached the spa area we were again disappointed by the fact that it was not working. It was just another negative thing for us to add to our growing list unfortunately.

Unfortunately the over 27,000 rupees that we spent here for two nights feels like a complete waste and we would never go there again.

We were staying at a nearby resort and had been told that Zuri had excellent food, so of course, a group of us headed off for a delightful buffet dinner! I can honestly say that I wasn't interested in the buffet until we got there. The buffet was deluxe! It has an appetizer "bar" and a dessert "bar" which was nice. And the food was different, at least to this girl who had been travelling in the North! There were lots of options and everything tasted very very fresh. We didn't see much of the grounds, but really enjoyed our evening!

we visited zuri in nov 2013.We were 15 in all with couples ,elders and childs. On reaching the resort we were given good welcome with coconut water which was good but we asked for tea so they waited us for more than 1 hour, that too also chargeble with worst taste. We were all excited on reaching cochin that we will have a party at the resort but all ruined on reaching there.RESORT was GOOD ,WELL MAINTAINED but other activities other than swimming and gym were not maintained.we were thinking that there will be activity coordinator who will make us play there or will have some music but all our dreams ruined about THE ZURI.
The cottages were half km away from restaurant,so not good for elders. They provide battery operated car for coming and going .But the service was poorer, because of less staff.
On next day morning when we called BUGGY(BATTERY OPERATED CAR) it didnot came we waited for half hour ,then we started walking ,my MOTHER fell down ,she got hurt. She said lets move back to another hotel ,but there were no rooms in other hotel ,we were disappointed i was thinking to cancell tour return back home but air tickets were not available.
On first day at 9:30 p.m.I asked for ALL OUT ,as because of greenery mosquitoes were there, they sent it at 12:30 a.m. At mid night when we were almost slept.
Now, FOOD-WORST FOOD WITH WORST SERVICE.ONLY SEA FOOD AND BAKERY ITEMS WERE GOOD ,OTHER THEN THAT MOSTLY VEG FOOD WORST.BUT SERVICE WORST WORST AND ONLY WORST.
Only what we were thinking when 2 nights will finish so that we could exit from here.EVEN though MANAGER AND FRONT APOLOGIZE on next day but again on last day there was no improvement.
Even pool water has got heavy chemicals ,which spolied our skin.
One thing we noted there they gave good service to foreiners than indian citizens.Even STAFF also cant understand what we want. BUT RESORT WAS GOOD MAINTAINED.
We thought it was BEAUTY WITHOUT BRIAN.
