“Our Kids Love Bayview Wildwood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2009

We have been coming here for about 6 years with my husband's family. There are 16 of us altogether. Each year we look around for alternatives, but we keep coming back. At this pricepoint, I think that Bayview Wildwood is a top choice. Love the kids' programs and the chance for some adult time as well as time with our kids/nieces/nephew. The kids love the shows, the beach, the new water trampoline, waterskiing/tubing and the many other activities. We will probably look at a few other options again this year - we are a bit tired of the trains passing by and waiting for room renovations/new beds - but I would not be surprised if we ended up back here in 2010. And our kids would be very happy to come back again.

just stayed five nights at this place. it was recommended by a friend. Room was centrally located to restaurant, beach etc. Room was air conditioned, had balcony, little fridge to put my wine in. I had two kids under 12 that loved the beach, and especially the floating trampoline that they just installed! (Max of 6 people and make sure you have a ife jacket if you're not an adult.) They have a pool which we hardly used as my daughter's skin reacts quite badly to chlorine. Would've been nice to actually get a sun lounger but they were always taken!!! Always found a seat on the beach thou... but they are muskoka chairs not loungers... but hey... still good! You can water ski at a cost, or tube which was expensive in comparison to skiing (insurance put cost up apparently). Kids got a free banana ride at the kids camp which they loved! The lake is really nice... not too many boaters or noise. The meals are FANTASTIC! Well.. at least the meals at dinner time! My daughter and i said we were going to grab the chef and bring him home with us! Entertainment all the way if you want or you can choose to sit in a seat and read your book on the dock! Kids shows were very good! My son loved the animal show. He got to put a python around his neck!! Sadly, i missed this as i was at the "adult" dinner! while the children were entertained. Only thing i would say is that the rooms are a little tired and need some TLC... but staff tell me that is a project underway... but im sure the cost will then go up... All in all one great time! Oh.. the staff in the restaurant... Courtney and Emma... really nice! ANd.. if you want a bottle of wine for the week instead of single glasses... thats ok too! just ask!

Bayview Wildwood Resort

Bayview Wildwood Resort in Canada is the best place in the ‎world. No other place can beat it. It has just about everything you ‎want. Great food, bike/canoe/kayak rental, great games and ‎activities. Great shows, and I could go on and on and on, but I ‎won’t. You can stay in many places. Like Elm, Birch, Poplar, ‎Balsam, Maple, or Pinedell. What about Walton House, Hillcrest, ‎Oaks, or Blue Jay. Or Sparrowview, Lakeview (which is actually ‎facing the pool), Lakeshore House, or Chipmunk. Why not ‎Chicadee, Rocky Point, Wildwood Inn, or even Neals. Wherever, ‎or whenever because it’s open year round, you stay, it’s awesome ‎and has its own special fundamentals. There is one pool with hot ‎tub. If you don’t want to swim in the pool, swim in Sparrow Lake ‎and jump off the dock. If you don’t want to swim at all, you can ‎canoe or kayak in Sparrow Lake. Or even go to the Stanton ‎Brother’s General Store. There is a neat playground where kids of ‎all ages can play on. There are a couple of tennis courts, a ‎volleyball court, a baseball diamond, a basketball court, and plenty ‎of grass to play soccer, though the best place to play soccer is on ‎the lawn in front of Albert Manor. There are even two shuffleboard ‎courts. In the waterfront building, where the youth section of the ‎day group is located, you rent your canoes, kayaks, bikes, and ‎sports equipment. For kids, after you’re done eating and you’re ‎waiting for you parents to come and take you back to wherever ‎you’re staying, you can rent games at the front desk, go on the ‎computer (if no one else is on it), or watch some TV in Crusaders ‎Lounge (where every night, they serve a snack). Every few hours, ‎you hear the trains of the CNR Railway go whizzing by. The ‎dining room is luxurious and has buffets for kids every meal and ‎for adults too, except dinner. Adults, you order food from a menu. ‎If you get it from a buffet, or order it from a menu, it’s delicious. ‎So when you and your family are arguing about where to go for a ‎spring, summer, autumn, or winter vacation, choose Bayview ‎Wildwood Resort. You’ll be glad you did. Believe me, you will. ‎

Okay! Seriously this is one of the best resorts for families! I went for a Christmas Holiday with my family and it was perfect. I don't know if it's the same for the summer but there was lots of stuff for us to do, and the little ones too. There was a free magic show, free daycare, free sledding, free snow shoeing, free movies, free dance, free cooking class and so much more. And free amazing food! I recommend this place so much! We are a family of 8 and they kept us on our toes! So you know it's good!

  • Liked — So many activities!
  • Disliked — Ask for more towels! There aren't enough and there is none at the pool.

Bayview-Wildwood is excellent for families with young children. There are endless summer programs for the kids.

We were travelling with a teen and he felt a bit left out. There are really no set programs for teens. That was a bit disappointing.

The train does go right though the resort and it's noisy. However, we soon got used to that and it did not disturbed us much.

The food is excellent and the cottages are clean.

  • Liked — childrens programs
  • Disliked — lack of teen programs, the train

We stayed at Bayview Wildwood for a week in June. While the weather was still a little cool, the kids still had plenty of fun in the lake and pools. It was not too crowded our week because the schools in Canada were just getting out for the summer. Our boys 8 and 9 had great fun with the Youth Program - something to do each and every day. They never complained they were bored!

Us adults joined in on some of the fun also - bocce games, Family Jeopardy, Wheel of Bayview, Battle of the Sexes. They had plenty to do or if you just wanted to sit around and enjoy the scenery that was very relaxing also.

Each evening after dinner there was entertainment in the Cedar Room. We saw a hypnotist, juggler/comedian, one-man band, water ski show and even the staff put on a musical show one evening - do not miss the entertainment especially the water show!

The fishing was great - right off the pier our boys each caught a ton of fish and some really big bass also - we were told they would even cook it for us for dinner if we wanted.

There was a little store at the end of the resort (and marina). It served hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches and ice cream cones. They also had candy there for the kids to purchase.

We were not on the meal plan there but everyone raves about the food and plenty of it. We came in on a getaway so our meals were not included but the room had a mini fridge so we did breakfast and lunch in our room and went into Orillia for dinner.

On Highway 11 there was a little hamburger joint called WEBER'S that has people lined up outside the doors each night - get there early! You then take your order and either sit at the picnic tables on the beautiful landscaped lawn in back or there is also an old train car you can eat in - that was fun for the kids. Weber's is so popular they had to build a bridge over the highway so it could be entered from either direction. It is also dog-friendly!

We took a short excursion one day which was wonderful. We went on the Segwin Steamship out of Gravenhurst (about a 20 minute drive). The trip was 2 hours down the most beautiful lake and scenic beyond belief! Well worth the trip. The town looked really cute also but it started raining really hard when we left so we drove up to Bracebridge and wandered around town there.

Would definitely return to Bayview Wildwood again. The nicest thing besides the staff and youth program directors being wonderful was that by day 2 everyone knew eachothers name. Most families were return families and always booked the same week so they could be together each year. We were very comfortable there. The room in the Sparroview cottages were nice. Single bedroom with queen bed, bathroom, living room with pull-out sleeper, TV, fireplace and coffee maker. We brought our own toaster, paper plates, napkins, etc. so we could have small meals in the room.

Happy to answer any questions.....
