My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights the 3rd week of June, (so review is well overdue!), after being on safari in Selous. It took about 1hr 40mins by car to reach the Lazy Lagoon from Dar Es Salaam airport and the last leg is by small boat, (you'll need to remove ur shoes!) but it was well worth the journey. This is simply a magical place, so peaceful & relaxing, we were so chilled, every meal was superb, breakfast, lunch & dinner, I second the previous reviewer's comment about the breakfast cinnamon rolls, absolutely delicious! Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts, Dave & Karen, who were excellent, in fact the whole entire staff were great, very friendly and welcoming. We took a half day tour to Bagamoyo which was very interesting, I would recommend this if you do get a little tired of 'island paradise' or just want to experiance a different side to Tanzania. The only 'beware' I would add is to be careful on some of the rocks around the island, we were warned more than once but rather foolishly, my husband still managed to cut the heel of his foot TWICE after going exploring in flip flops!
We thoroughly enjoyed our walks up the beach twice a day, you can walk for miles, and see the most amazing star fish, and we were almost always accompanied by Mino the resident hound!
He 'adopted' us during our stay, and we loved having him hanging around, he would come and sit outside the banda waiting for us to wake up every morning.
I can honestly say I have never felt so relaxed doing nothing, just total tranquility. Well done to Dave & Karen & team for creating what is The Lazy Lagoon and many thks for our enjoyable stay,

This was the last stop on our honeymoon and was the perfect place to relax in beautiful surroundings after time on safari and exploring Zanzibar. The drive up from Dar takes roughly 90 mins (and is pretty interesting if you want to see a side of Tanzania that you wouldn't on safari or in touristy hotels), then there is a short boat trip out to the island.

The hotel itself only has about 12 rooms and has the whole island to itself! So there are literally kilometres of beaches for just a few guests. We were there at the busiest time of year, and it still felt so tranquil and relaxed. The rooms are very spacious (the beds are huge), relatively well kept, and comfortable. Electricity is turned off at 10pm each night and water is heated by solar panels so isn't always very hot.

The bar and restaurant area are beautiful; the swimming pool is basic, but who cares when you have the Indian Ocean right outside your room! Food was pretty good considering the remote location (much better than what we had in our safari camp) and the management are very obliging with any special dietary needs. Indeed, they, and all the staff, were extremely friendly and helpful in general.

If you are a person who needs activity, then 2 or 3 days here may be enough for you. But if you're looking for somewhere to relax and be as lazy as the name of the hotel suggests, then this is perfect for a longer stay.

I have heard about the island in the middle of sea from husband that works in Selous. Everytime he is visiting Lazy, he would phone me and tell me he is in paradise. Time to see for myself eventually happened. On a Wednesday morning we arrive at the collection point for Lazy Lagoon's boat to pick us up.
A couple of friendly guys assist us onto the boat with utmost care. While travelling towards the lodge, I just became quiet and I thought that God took special care when He made this peace of earth! The sea looks like a mirror, the water as clear as running water and the skies bluer than tanzanite. As we approached the beach of Lazy Lagoon Karen and David were waiting for us with a welcomed refresher after the 2 hour drive from Dar.
David and Karen are the managing couple at Lazy and I must take my hat of for them and their capable staff.
My breath was taken away at the way the lodge has been designed and even the bandas are perfect for anyone that wants to relax in complete wilderness. I was amazed at the fact that the island has so many wildlife and considered it a total plus to a sea holiday! Too crown it all, the lodge has its own pets, 5 cats and Mino, our kid for the stay of our holiday, an even friendlier Rotweiller.
After a welcome and a briefing session of what and where on the island, we were taken to our banda. Most of the furniture at the main area and in the bandas are made on the island.
The banda is perfect, all blends in with the environment. Comfortable HUGE beds, clean and tidy bathroom and even a loft for kids. The view is incredible from our banda's patio.
Later we went to the entertainment area for lunch and if I could I will steal Dayo and take him back with me. Dayo is the barman cum coffee man in the mornings cum cleaner.
The lodge is being management with complete and utter proffesionalism. Taking in consideration that fresh water is ferried to the island four times a day with a dow and that shopping is only done once a week. We never heard that they ran out of something or sorry we cant assist you with this or that. Whilst there, Karen even arranged a babysitter for another couple that wanted to enjoy the evening alone. The days were filled with all kinds of activities from palying pool, darts, snorkelling, kayaking or just a walk on the beach. Food is incredible especially the cinnamon buns fresh out of the oven for breakfast.
We went to Zanzibar after three nights and instead of staying 5 nights at Zanzi, we came back to Lazy and spent the rest of our holiday on this special island.
This paradise on earth, definitely! If you are looking for porcelain and tiles and dont want to be close to nature, dont go there! You will feel completely out of your high and stiffy place! Go there to get back to nature, to find yourself and to enjoy God's Hand!

Wow, an hour north of Dar Es Salaam, 2 km offshore in the Zanzibar Channel lies the heavenly lodge named Lazy Lagoon. Located on its own private island in crystal blue waters the lodge is a beautiful and traditional structure in keeping with the paradise feel of the island. The hospitality and service is second to none with a welcoming management team happy to assist with anything you could need. The accommodation is a series of very private huts along the water front well equipped and very clean with a furnished deck and hammock enticing hours of doing nothing but enjoying the sound of the waves.

I was only able to stay one night whilst on a business trip to Dar Es Salaam but it was the perfect get away and I am already planning to go back. The food was excellent, activities included snorkelling, kayaking, day trips to the historical town of Bagamoyo and much much more.

I have been fortunate to visit a number of lodges during my time in Africa but have never found anything quite so amazing as Lazy Lagoon.
