we visited in september so missed all the crowds mentioned. Its absolutely beautiful, the water changes colour frequently, from navy blues to sky blues and emerald greens depending upon the light. Yes, 7 euros does seem a little steep, but this is a natural wonder and is well worth it. Yes, the boat ride is short, but it isn't a large lake, so this is to be expected. Our oarsman was lovly, the banter between the different boats amusing, and he spent time to take pictures of us all. We certainly didn't feel rushed.
Be advised the short tunnel down to the boat is wet, and can be slippery, and one does have to jump into the boat, so this may pose problems for those with limited movement. I have balance issues, and very nearly got very up close and personal with the lake, but that was part of a fun experience!

We did the Island Tour and where taken to this cave rather than being taken for a look around the beautiful village and port of Sami. Being cynical I do wonder how much the cave owner gets for these visits from the coach parties. They advertise at 7Euro to enter and you get a short boat ride around a cool water lake with a hole in the roof of the cave. Presumably the tour guide profits rather well from taking the party there. If you have an option I strongly suggest missing this and having a walk round Sami and along to Melissani village - it's free and the views are so much more interesting.

For years, I have complained, at how appalling this place is. From the entrance to the cave to the organisation, to actually the service of the boat men. Its really such a pity, as its a beautiful cave to visit, however, the rest rooms in disgrace, the staff pathetic, and the boat men few to deal with large groups. It has a closed coffee place, and only opens when they feel like it. If they are worried about tourism this is the first place they should start improving on.

If you are into geology/geography you will really enjoy a visit to the Melissani Cave. If is essentially and underground waterway, where the roof has collapsed in revealing a beautiful picturesque lake. There are hand rowed boats which take you around the lake, but if you go at mid day, to get the best pictures with the blue sky, then it is very busy with the daily coach trips.

We visited at c 10am and we were the only boat on the lake and the only people in our boat, so essentially we had a private tour, which was magical.

One of the must do's in Kef

Brilliant place to visit to see and hear the singing. Be careful of the steps down to the lake at the bottom but still worth the effort.
