Overall very good. A few minor points such as responding tot complaint and upkeeping/maintenance. Not a lott tot do if your out to party or with small children. Good food but more expensive. Not for elderly and people who have mobility problems. Would i go there a second time? I not sure tot be honest. Staff al very kind and overall i think worth the money. You really need a car to get around and see the beautifull island.

We stayed at the ionian in 2 rooms with sea views.the beach here is nothing in comparison to the beaches around kefalonia . We spent the day exploring the island and would return in the afternoon to the most comfortable pool day beds.it was the perfect location for us since we used the ferry from lefkada which docks in Sami.it was a lovely walk into town for dinner with lots of restaurants on the port to choose from.breakfast was also worth mentioning- the staff was so attentive and the food was a mix of western and Greek foods.the gym was great and the pool bar was fantastic for drinks and snacks.i would stay here again

This is a good hotel but we can't give it 5 Stars when it only has hand-held showers and there are no locks on the toilet doors in the lobby! It was a compromise but nice enough. Sami as a town makes up for the shortfall. The staff around the pool and restaurant were excellent, nothng was too much trouble.

Room Tip: Good for couples but not great value for families

Just returned from a truly wonderful holiday on the beautiful island of Kefalonia. After reading all of the glowing reviews of this hotel we had high hopes and we were certainly not disappointed! From the moment we stepped in to the Ionian Emerald, we felt relaxed. This was a special holiday for us and we wanted to stay somewhere quite luxurious but have found in the past that some 5 star hotels can be a little ostentatious and quite formal-the Ionian Emerald was neither of these things. The staff are friendly and will go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. We rarely write reviews but felt compelled to shout about how wonderful this hotel is. If you are after comfort, beautiful views, a relaxed and chilled out atmosphere and a little bit of pampering, this is the hotel for you.

The pool area is spotlessly clean with comfy beds and lots of room. The jacuzzi/hot tub is a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the views. There were some families staying in the hotel but the pool area is large enough to mean that noise is not an issue. Staff were friendly, and guest too- perhaps because we all felt so chilled out that chatting came naturally.

Ten steps from the hotel there is a white shingle beach with stunning views. The water is crystal clear and lovely for a spot of snorkelling.

Sami is a short walk away. We loved the leisurely stroll to town each evening. The waves lapping at the shore as the sun set was just lovely. There is a paved path that you walk along which is fine during the day but perhaps a bit dark at night. Taxis are around 6 euros so we always grabbed a cab back.

There are a handful of lovely restaurants in Sami which all overlook the harbour where yachts are moored.

Sami is not the place to go if you are after wild nightlife. We wanted a relaxing holiday so that we could really de-stress and Sami fitted the bill perfectly.

If you go you must take a boat trip to Ithaca-just stunning.

A beautiful hotel and a memorable holiday!

Room Tip: Ask for the second floor to maximise views. But be aware that there are no lifts.

We stayed in (Rm302) at this lovely hotel from 14-21st July. I cant say more than other reviews, the hotel is clean, rooms are great with nice views across the pool and the beach, the staff are great, Yannis 1 and 2 were great in the pool bar, always looked after you very well, sorry I didnt get the names of the other staff but they were all great as well. I celebrated my birthday (the big 50) while there and we ate in the hotel restaurant, we were a little disappointed with the meal as it was warm as opposed to hot food and the breakfast offerings were also warm unless you had the omelette freshly cooked for you. This was only a small gripe as everything else was great.

We ate in a few restaurants, our favourite Ill Familia, fantastic grilled king prawns, mussels, sardines I could go on it was all fab. We also ate at the taverna across the road from the hotel not sure what the name was but this was very good and one turn right out of the hotel and just up on the left hand side opposite the lake also very good.

Will definately return to Kefalonia was blown away by the beautiful island and the people, must be one of the best in Greece.

Room Tip: I think you wont have a problem with any room all have views and are great

We have had a great stay in this hotel (Rm 304). Everything about it was great. The position was fantastic, pool area great, and to our surprise the hotel actually had a restaurant worth staying on the premises for in the evening. Kefalonia itself was lovely, and Sami (a short walk away) had a range of good value eating establishments. The only disappointing aspect was my son (who had an ear infection so couldn't go in the pool proper) and myself being told we couldn't play a quiet game of mini tennis in the children's pool because it was too noisey, despite there only being a handful of guest around the pool (and the fact we were not making a lot of noise). When a eight year old cant go in the pool its bad enough, to then be further restricted ended in tears on our last day.

What a welcome surprise this place is. The rooms are spacious and well cared for. The air conditioning was so quiet you could easily leave it on at night. The pool is big enough to just swim whilst others "play". The food is really good with a variety of choices, particularly at breakfast. The icing on the cake however is the wonderful, welcoming attitude of all the staff that we encountered, nothing was too much trouble for us.
As to the situation, there is a short walk into "downtown" Karavomilos or a very pleasant 20 minute walk along the seafront into the main square of Sami, the nearest town of note.
One bit of advice is to hire a car, although you wouldn't be hamstrung without one, you'll see so much more with one.

Room Tip: From what we could see they're all good.
