“Excellent hotel”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Just stayed at the Ionian Emerald for a week and it was a very pleasant stay. Lovely quality rooms with everything you could possible want. All staff very pleasant and friendly. Hotel food very good extremely large servings for dinner. Right by the shingle beach with excellent views, Very nice pool with lots of beds and parasols. Always available what ever time you arrived at the pool and the staff would supply a pool towel. Overall everything first class. The only disappointment was that i left a top in my room on departure and I emailed the hotel as soon as i was aware to check if it had been handed in but sadly they have not bothered to reply.

We enjoyed a brief break at the resort to attend a wedding in Sami. We were made very welcome, all the staff are amazingly firendly and I'd echo all the positive comments about clean rooms and beautiful views. We had sea view rooms that had an amazing view across the gardens and pool to the bay. We ate out in the evenings, to sample more local colour but enjoyed the extensive breakfast buffet and pool snacks/drinks during the day. If you are looking for total relaxation this is a very good option.

We obviously booked at the right time, the price was a lot cheaper than when the season was in full flight, the accommodation is first class, cleanliness 1st rate, we went half board, eating times - 7pm to 11pm in the restaurant, breakfast great, omelette's cooked to order, good selection on the buffet, tea coffee fresh juices etc, portions for evening meal large and quality first class. Pool area very clean and tidy, Yanis who runs the bar etc, is very attentive and friendly, all the staff in the restaurant very good as well as the reception staff, the nearest town Sami, is a 15/20 min walk along the sea front, very nice, Sami itself is lovely and would recommend the restaurant Famillia, food amazing staff and decor 1st class, you need to go, Can not speak highly enough of our Holiday experience.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view.

We have just returned from our holiday and loved the hotel and Kefalonia. The hotel was clean & bright, friendly staff, beds changed daily, couldn't fault it. Lovely 15 minute walk by the sea to the tavernas in Sami and a good taverna and bakery just 5 minutes walk in the opposite direction from the hotel.
We hired a car and travelled most of this beautiful Island, over the mountains with the lovely smells of wild flowers and herbs everywhere and stunning views.
We will definitely visit again.

What a fantastic Hotel - the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely holiday, and no request was too much trouble. Pool, rooms, facilities, and very close proximity to the beach and numerous local tavernas made this the perfect resort on this beautiful Greek island. Beautiful Melissani lake is a short walk, and car hire through the hotel for more distant attractions and beaches is very reasonable. We will definitely be back - this was the perfect holiday!

We stayed here last week in September and loved it. A 45 minute taxi ride through the mountains from Cephalonia airport our hotel room was as big as my first flat! The staff were lovely and so welcoming. The buffet breakfast was diverse and enough to see me through to dinner - admittedly I had two courses every morning but hey I was on holiday :-) the pool area has a bar serving soft drinks, cocktails, beer and spirits. Towels are given at the bar without even prompting and there are large comfy beds around the pool to relax on.

The cocktails were a bit of a let down but that's a minor quibble. Our rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day with fresh towels robes and slippers provided. There is a spa downstairs but a little pricey at E100 a massage so we didn't try it and it didn't appear to be open anyway. Besides we had a Jacuzzi bath anyway so who needs a spa! It is true what other reviewers have said, you will need a car to get around. Being that we were so exhausted from a manic year we just wanted a fly and flop but next time we will invest in a hire car, the scenes coming up the mountains were breath-taking. We did do one touristy thing and visited the little cave about 15 mins walk from the hotel which was beautiful but other than that there are no real attractions within walking distance. You have been warned! The town is a 15 minute walk away with some restaurants and bars. We visited the top rated restaurant on TA one night (La Familia) and have to say we were not impressed. My partner ordered a grilled kebab and was given the Greek equivalent of a Turkey Twizzler! Blurgh. There was an excellent restaurant directly opposite the hotel tucked away under a little green house about 200m up the road which was soooo good and cheaper. I think it was called Zepbath - there are signs pointing to it on the corner of the street. The vine leaves, fried aubergine and sea bass were my favourites as we ate there 5 nights out of 7 I can safely say we never had a bad meal or spent more than E40 including jugs of wine and multiple starters.

Quiet, clean and relaxing. I would go back tomorrow if I could!
