Nice bedroom, clean and comfortable, we hired a fridge and took our own kettle so it was good.
Although the air conditioning was included in the price it wasn't very good and the rooms got Very hot at night. I wouldn't chance leaving the door open!
There was a lovely pool. although there was some sunbed saving as there always is (mainly for the good softer beds) but there was plenty of beds as many of the older guests didn't seem to use the pool. Although Stelios NEEDS to buy some cushions for the plastic beds. As they aren't comfortable. The Bar food was basic, mostly frozen food, but okay: greek salad was very nice. It wouldve been nice to be open later than 7pm though as it was still hot then.

I thought Stelios was a little abrupt first but it was his way, if you needed anything he would sort it for you. I was surprised as the owner He was helping with 'everything' even at the breakfasts right until late at night. Nina the lady on the desk in the afternoons was very nice, as were all the staff TBH.
Was a good 10 minute walk into the villiage which we didn't mind, but some elderly people had to pay a taxi every night to go and eat a meal. I'm sure if food was offered some people may have stayed in.
Scott the rep did a quiz but it was a 9pm which was a little early as you had to go out for your meal.
Breaklast was a litle dissapointing at first but it was actually enough, but all in all we would go again as we liked Sami.

Room Tip: ask for a double room if you want a double bed. the family room seemed to be in the basement which w...

Clean, basic and dull breakfast: you know that already from the other reviews. Stelios, the owner, is Marmite: you know that from other reviews too.
Staying at the Pericles is a different experience: not unpleasant, but slightly bewildering in that it was the other guests and Scott, the travel rep, who made it an excellent holiday. Never before have we come across such friendly people; perhaps we all felt the same because we had all been put in the same boat! I won't bother saying why it was a strange experience other than this is a good base and is slightly amusing for its weirdness...the lady behind the front desk is spot on, though!
Tip: if you have a rubbish view take your drinks and your patio furniture to the large and completely unused balcony that overlooks the harbour. Our balcony looked out over the 'film set'- an old warehouse with a broken truck parked beside it. For some reason, someone decided it was a good idea to build the noisy pool generator beside the warehouse, resulting in a noisy view as well. But look beyond and you get lovely mountains...or just take your drink and furniture to the unused, GORGEOUS balcony! Stelios will walk past you now and again but that adds to the wonderful weirdness of the place (my husband was in fits of giggles every time Somebody's Watching Me by Michael Jackson/Rockwell came on the sound system....he wasn't sure if it was an inside joke or just someone's ironic taste in music).
Walk into Sami and find the Dolphins restaurant. Dimitri and Kiki are lovely people, incredibly friendly and will spoil you with free drinks after your meal. They do all the cooking themselves, and having spent a morning in the kitchen watching them cook, I can vouch for the freshness of the food and the quality of the meat.
Scott, the travel rep, is a breath of fresh air in the travel rep world. I have always made it my own little policy to never book through a rep because they do too much of a sellsellsell at their welcome meetings. Not Scott, though. His welcome meeting was really interesting and informative: he loves history and he loves Kefalonia and it shows. So yeah, we booked the day trip to Ithaka and WOW, was it a good day out. It was worth every penny (about £60 for the two of us for the day).
Car hire is a must: this island is too pretty to ignore. You can shop around for prices- we got it for 30 euros a day. The north of the island is especially pretty.
Would I recommend the Pericles? Sure, if you have a sense of humour, like clean sheets and aren't precious about wanting brass taps and umbrella cocktails. Great value for money, decent location and we quite actually LIKED the fact that the bar closes at 12:30.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view- and if you don't get one, make use of the huge unused sea view balcony on th...

Pericles is situated about 10 mins walk from Sami centre. The hotel is simply furnished - but adequate. Maid service every day, towels and bedding changed every 3 days - and the hotel is very clean. As other reviewers have mentioned. the breakfast selection isn't exciting, and I agree there was no fresh fruit - however, there's nothing to stop you taking your own fruit to breakfast, as we and a few others did. Wasps were a nuisance at breakfast, however, they are after the honey and jam - not the guests! Our room was on the top floor at the rear of the hotel, which meant we were away from the road, and had a mountain and pool view - and a sea view to Agia Efimia. The downside we found, was that despite having air conditioning in the bedroom, it wasn't adequate as the weather was so hot and humid. The air con didn't cool the room enough, so we switched it off and ended up sleeping with the balcony door wide open - but it was still too hot! Beware of local cockerels crowing from around 3am (I suggest earplugs!) The pool area is set away from the hotel itself, which is nice and peaceful. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Stelios (the Manager) isn't grumpy at all, he just doesn't have a fantastic grasp of English - so before some reviewers brand him as unfriendly, ask yourselves how good is your Greek? We hired a car for 4 days, which we arranged to leave at the airport. We can recommend Gerolimatos Car Hire in Sami, This was our second visit to Kefalonia, but our first and last visit to Pericles. Having said that, the hotel has many repeat guests. It's your choice!

Great hotel if all you need is a base, shower very basic and small and requires updating but other than ok.
Breakfast could have done with some fresh fruit added because you are offered ham cheese, bread or toast and one type of cereal and not forgetting the eggs that were probably hard boiled early in the morning.
The pool is a nice stroll away from the hotel and is quite nice and private with a nice pool bar, be aware if you think the hotel is near the town centre it is a good 10 minutes walk along a busy road but if you turn right out of the hotel and right again there is a present walk into old Sami which is not a busy road.
The Manager is described on some reviews as being grumpy but we found him ok he just gets through with his English.
Nina who is in reception every day is lovely and very helpful and has a lovely English ascent.
A car hire is a must if you don't want to lay at the pool all day and melt, there is a cobbled beach in Sami about 30 minutes walk.
We had a great time and would go back.

Underwhelmed and a little unimpressed with the hotel. Staff are friendly but didn't speak much english. Unable to offer much input with local attractions. Beds were awful! springs popping out the mattress - we had to layer blankets on top which helped. Shower was tiny! very awkward and impossible not to flood the floor. Plug sockets were dangerous - 2 of them were hanging out of the wall and another sparked a couple of times. Wasps everywhere! we had a nest on our balcony so nearly impossible to sit out on it. Breakfast was poor. toast - cornflakes - ham - cheese. oh and pre mixed tea and coffee from flasks. not worth dragging yourself out of bed. There is however a fantastic bakery on the right hand side as you enter the main street in Sami. Aside from this, the rooms were regularly checked and cleaned.

firstly the island and resort. i have been going to kefalonia for ages and love it, it has been over 5 years gap since last visit and it has changed, some of the more popular resorts are now so un greek, they are as cosmopolitan and bland as the costas, Sami however is a greek working town with a greek feel and half the holiday makers were greek. so a lovely laid back feel to it.because of this the sea front is original and all hotels and apartments are back or to the side abit.
the pericles is to the back by about 15 minutes walk 20 amble, right and right again is the best through greek family small holdings (no major farms) cats, dogs ,chickens, turkeys, goats and donkeys, it is well lit for the return journey, but does seem longer when weaving all over the place, which you will as all the bars and restaurants are family run and will chat and keep you topped up all night.
we were generally impressed with the hotel on all levels, friendliness, cleanliness, service and the prices at the bars were very competitive, when you take into account what we paid for our B&B you couldnt have got a B&B in bridlington for that 15 years ago, the pool area was very pleasant in a natural bowl with moutains on 3 sides, really quiet and peacefull, the rooms basic but clean with plenty of storage, ask for extra sheets or towels and they are there within minutes, the bars close at a sensible time so no rowdiness or late night corridor conversations (on that point all the corridors are carpeted so no wheeled cases at midnight).
i would be hard pressed to make any negative comments at all and they would be so small and so easy to work around, it aint worthwhile and anyone who can is expecting way too much for their euro.
