We stayed at the hotel Pericles for two weeks at the end of May/beginning of June 2014.It's a really nice, typically Greek hotel and we enjoyed our stay very much.
The rooms are of a good size and they were cleaned every day and the lovely white fluffy towels and crisp clean sheets were changed regularly.
It's in a quiet area so at night it's good for sleeping.
We went with friends and had booked two rooms. Before our holiday I sent an e-mail to the hotel to ask if we could rent fridges and upon our arrival Nina confirmed this. The fridges were already in place in both rooms, very efficient. Nina is lovely and very helpful.
Stellios (the manager/owner) was a very pleasant, polite man and he always said hello to us whenever we saw him. We did not witness him being rude to anyone, quite the contrary. The negative comments on here about him seem unfair.
Breakfast was great with plenty of choice. It was the same every day but no-one has to eat the same things every day as there were several items to choose from. There was sliced bread which you could put into a very good toaster, crusty bread in slices, cake, sliced meat, cheese, yoghurt, cereal, honey, butter, jam, marmalade, hard boiled eggs, tea, coffee, orange juice. What more can anyone want.
Stellios stands in the breakfast room and oversees the running of it with great efficiency and his staff are extremely good. Nothing ran out as it was replenished all the time.
A comment we would like to make about Stellios's presence at breakfast time is that while we were there we witnessed a family who just left their kids to help themselves to everything without their supervision. The parents just got their own food and sat down leaving their kids to it. On one occasion the little girl was trying to make toast and she was prodding the toaster with the metal food tongs. It's a good job Stellios was there to keep an eye on things and stop her. He was really doing what her parents should have been doing. Give the man a break and look after your own kids, it isn't actually his job!
The pool area is great and both the kids and the adult pools are very large. You can have a good swim in them.
Sami is a short stroll from the hotel and it has great tavernas. We tried lots of different places to eat and they all served really nice food. The local wine is very good too.
If you walk down the lane to the right as you come out of the Pericles you'll find a fabulous country lane with goats, sheep, chickens, a peacock and other animals on your stroll to the harbour.
Look out for Dimitris and his friends, they're fabulous musicians who entertained us several times while we were in Sami as we were lucky enough to see them in a couple of the tavernas on the front. They are really worth listening to, Some of the locals will also dance to their wonderful music. What a great night out. Thank you to everyone involved.
If you walk left from the hotel you'll come to bakeries and supermarkets.
Antisamos is paradise. It's a gorgeous beach with 2 tavernas. The sunbeds and parasols are free all day provided you buy a drink at the taverna. A member of staff will come to serve you while you chill out on the sunbed. so you can be waited on. It's such a fabulous place that you'll want to stay all day. They serve lovely food too so it's ideal for a spot of lunch. A taxi is 12 euros. Our driver asked what time we wanted to go back and he was there waiting for us on the dot. How's that for service.
Please go and say kalimera to the gorgeous donkey across the road from the hotel. He loves carrots and will pose when you get your camera out, he's a character.
Melissani cave lake and Drogarati caves are within walking distance from the hotel.
There is only one bus a day which comes to the hotel at 8.05 am and goes to Argostolli and it leaves Argostolli to return at 1.00pm. Therefore a hire car is highly recommended on this lovely island.
