I will give a totally unbiased report of our findings. On arrival almost a day late (after being messed about big time by Thomas Cook - but thats a different story) we were displeased to say the least to be told our room was not ready!

Our room itself was a duplex style apartment which was absolutely spotless. The maids came in EVERY DAY for one thing or another. It rotated between cleaning, fresh towels & loo roll and changing the bedding.

The pool & surrounding area was also immaculate and the lads behind the bar were really friendly if not a bit crazy but polite & great fun. Not to mention the best English brekky around.

The hotel seemed to be veering towards the Dutch people as we had been given reports by fellow Brits that they had been refused certain things which were given to the Dutch without hesitation. This didn't effect us at all as the Dutch were very friendly toward us. (Hello Joop!) As Brits though, we were very much in the minority.

The location is brilliant. Situated between the 2 villages which are extemely quaint, especially Koutouloufari. There are loads of Tavernas to chose from. We found the best to be Steki across the road and Oliva which is part of the hotel but saying that, we didn't have a bad meal anywere.

One other thing to be aware of is there is no cash machine in the village. You have to go into Hersonssos to find one.

One of the downsides to the hotel was "The Hill" out of the place. You had a choice between the the slope or the steps, both equally as gruelling in 100 degree tempratures and definately not for anyone with walking disabilities.

Now for my complaint...we paid 90 euros for the air conditioning which we didn't mind, exept for the fact that it wasn't working! (I noticed someone else commented on it also on their review). We mentioned this several times to the people on reception but it didnt get sorted at all. I even emailed the hotel when I returned home to ask for a refund but they didn't even have the courtesey to reply! So if you get the air-con, be sure it is working!

All in all we had a fantatsic holiday and would definatley return again but perhaps not to these apartments as we did feel as if they didn't really want Brits there and we have noticed it's not in next years brochure which would back up this theory.

If anyone has any questions I will gladly do my best to answer them.

One of the best places you will find as it is very clean , great location and most of all its the friendliest place on earth.
You would not be disappointed it you decided to chose Asterias Village as your place for your holiday.
Set between two villages Piskopiano and Koutouloufari which are full of restaurants and a few gift shops here and there, but a very nice place and a lovely atmosphere, just be careful of the mopeds and quads as they are coming at you from all angles, but don't let that put you off.
The Asterias has a large pool which never really gets too busy, even in the heat of the day.(no food or drink are allowed around the pool area)
The pool bar is a great place to chill and have a bite to eat and a refreshing drink, the staff there are fantastic and up for a bit of banter and a friendly chat.
We had our breakfast at the pool bar every morning on our 2 week stay as we were half broad and there is plenty to chose from, i highly recommend that you go half broad as you get to have a 4 course meal every night from the Oliva restaurant just upstairs on the main road which is part of the Asterias, best place that i have ever eaten in, so tasty you think your in dreamland and great staff there too, again always have a smile on there faces and up for a friendly chat, on the way out we got delayed 4 hours and didn't get to Asterias until 2 in the morning, our taxi pulled up and a great guy called Tony who works there was waiting at the roadside to take our bags down to reception, they then said the restaurant has stayed open for us to get a bite to eat, now baring in mind these people having been working hard all night they still had a smile on there faces for us, really was a golden touch the minute we got there and i knew from that 1st 10 minutes that we was in for a great holiday and i wasn't wrong.
The rooms at the Asterias are basic but large and very clean, air-con is 7 euros a night which is a must if your going in the heat of summer.
The nearest town is Hersonissos about 15 to 20 minutes walk away, which is downhill on the way there but a long hard uphill walk on the way back, get a taxi for 7 euros, but to be honest why go there as its too busy with more bikes coming at you than you can imagine.
If you do go in to the town then walk to the harbour where they do boat trips which are well worth it, the one we did was one called (El geco) which was 20 euros each but lasted all day, they take you to this island with one house on it and let you spend a couple of hours there snorkeling, very beautiful there.

All in all a fantasic holiday which i booked through reading reviews like this, oh and the weather was 30 to 40 c everyday with almost no cloud.

If you want a great holiday go here.(booked through Thomas Cook)

A perfect location for us. Just a short walk down to the hectic Hersonissos (if you really wanted to go there). Lovely clean modern and spacious 1-bed apartment. Not typical for Greece, more up to the standards found in Spain and Portugal. The whole complex has been very well laid out and is maintained to a high standard. Lovely pool area and 24 hour bar/snackbar with plenty of friendly staff. Set between 2 pretty mountain villages, Piskopiano and Koutouloufari, with lots of tavernas and shops including some craft and artwork, not just the usual tourist stuff. Quiet location for families. Only drawback was the proliferation of quadbikes and scooters driven by helmetless tourists with no regard for safety. This place is perfect for families with older children, and for couples who prefer to be away from the noise of Hersonissos. I would recommend it highly.

first impressions were great, set in a village location of piskopiano, loads of steps down to reception and me being a gentleman carried the bags.....big mistake!!! then had to lug them all the way back up!!! staff mainly ok, bit grumpy at times but the owner was a really nice guy, the olivia restaurant that is owned by the same family was the best around, affter a few nights sampling others we stayed there for our meals, beautifull, and the dutch staff were excellent! great prices to!! couldnt fault it at all.

pool got very busy when we werent out in the hire car, get one that they recomend, same prices but felt safer using a recomended firm. travelled to the south of crete, have to be brave lol

wont go back to crete as all the books say, if you want authentic greece then dont go to crete, but as a sunfilled holiday it was great, apart form kids on quad bikes everywhere!!!!! oh and avoid the restaurant next to the asterias, when you are looking at the front entrance its on your right hand side, awfull service!!!

next village along is a great sports bar with tv"s everywhere, ideal for the footy lads!!!!! enjoy!!!!

We loved our stay in Crete. The Asterias Village apartments were clean and very nice. The only downside being the air conditioning. We paid extra to have air conditioning, but found that it wasn't very good and hardly cooled the room. The staff were friendly enough, but their English wasn't that great, which caused a bit of confusion at times. The local amenities were great, with lots of little shops just a minutes walk up the road.

As a base to explore the island and surrounding area the Asterias village was excellent. We went on loads of trips and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The little towns of Piscopiano and Koutoulafari are only a couple of minutes walk and are lovely if, like us, you like to go out for nice meals. There was an endless amount of little tavernas and restaurants all very nice and welcoming. The food was always excellent and I can honestly say that we ate in a different place every night.

If you like to go clubbing then this is maybe not an ideal place to stay. It is possible to walk into Hersonnisos from the apartments, but it takes about 20 minutes and is down a very steep winding road. If you don't mind, however, you can get a taxi, which only takes 5 minutes, but you won't have the convenience of being able to stagger home to bed whenever you feel like it.

I would recommend these apartments to couples or families and would possibly go back if they managed to sort out the air conditioning!

First time to Crete and we were expecting very basic accom as is the norm in Greece but these surpassed our expectations! 1 bedroom apartment was spacious and spotless, pool & all public areas couldnt be faulted, although felt like doing a workout everytime you wanted to leave the complex either being faced with series of steps or steep hill. Wasnt too pushed with the Olivia resturant on site but no shortage of choice in resort.
Lovely location between Piskopiano & Koutalfari.
Would recommend these apartments

This was our first time in Crete and what a wonderful experience and relaxing holiday we had. The party consisted of my wife, daughter and me. The accommodation comprised of a double bed upstairs with TV and a single downstairs, little kitchen with fridge, kettle, 2 ring cooker, pots & pans etc. Toilet, sink, shower and always had hot water. Maid came virtually everyday but even when missed it was not a problem as we are generally tidy people. A little balcony outside that overlooked the sea ( some distance) but was nice. We had room 67 which is at the far end of the complex and had numerous steps to reach.
The transfer from the airport took approx 1 hour. There are steep steps down to the complex but managable. The luggage was taken down by car which was a relief.
The pool area is very nice and the bar serves food till 6 0' clock and a fine array of drinks till 0200hrs. A special mention must go to Tony who runs it during the day. Speaks excellent English and is a laugh and gives good advice on where to go and book visits etc. He really made it a good holiday....get to know him.
There are many good resturants around and we just explored each night. I must mention one taverna we found, cannot recall the name but come up the steps, turn left walk straight across the mini round- a - bout and go straight forward carry on straight ahead. You will come across a V junction, on that corner you will see a raised taverna so walk to right and there you are. It has a chocolate dedicated menu and my wife and daugher loved it. This was a calling everynight no matter what.
We did a boat trip, hired a quad and generally just walked and explored. The people are so friendly and nothing is to much trouble. Having never visited crete before we certainly will again. If anyone would like to ask questions or seek advice please don't hesitate to ask.
Regards - Allan
