“Fantastic experience....”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

From your welcome to the farewell, this stay was wonderful. EXCEPTIONALLY attentive staff ensuring your every need catered for, discussing food preferences and cooking anything you desire - the incredibly experienced chef here definitely a hidden gem in India!

Our little cottage was rustic and sweet; much larger than we had anticipated, really homely and seemingly private. A cosy stay, comfortable sleep and with the early morning 'safari time' wake up from the squirrels rustling about on the roof top, followed by the gentle 'good morning' knock on your door from the wake up call staff, a blissful experience. Wi fi, should you need it, is complimentary from the adjoining library area. Recommend a neck bandana to wear along dusty tracks.

Safaris here were good though Area 1 (there are 3), in our opinion, definitely better for diversity of terrain and sightings. It seems tickets need to be booked in advance with confirmed passport reference numbers, which are stringently matched every morning prior to park entry (new system introduced to reduce numbers of jeeps in park at one time, multiple ticket purchasing etc ...) - our travel company had arranged this but sadly some guests, having booked themselves, were not aware of procedures and missed some park entries as tickets unavailable. Presently, Area 1 tickets the most sought.

Special thanks to Bhola, our 'butler' - his welcoming smile will remain with us always.

home is the word which i can use for this place . lively & pampered and Mr. Ramayan was the one who was luking for all our needs ans demand . we stayed for 3 days and it was less . Mr. Raj our naturalist is a fun person to be specially his signal of nature was unique . Mr. Atul amd gorak were good too. but I feel all the credit for making our stay amzing goes to Ramayan .
U never have to ask for a opinion if u wanna stay in mahua kothi and with the name of Taj i have a blind faith in it as i have stayed in almost most of the hotels of Taj they never give the feeling of a hotel as their comfort level and their interaction is so good . right from the person who is at the gate and to the manager and every person working in it makes you feel like home and pamper you at the best . i would love to go to bandhavgarh again and alwayz prefer to stay in Taj . the property is gud the room with courtyard is amazing . the ambience of the property is of the forest they hvnt harm the nature and the dinning area is best place to relax . specially the sivling at the dinning area is a special attraction . u can get to see some wild boar in the property itself . Its one of the best stay again , the food was good and the day we were leaving for khajuraho . it was ramayan who had packed breakfast for us for the trip further . these small things do makes u realize that its nt the place only but the people who makes it special . Im happy for my stay in Taj Mahua Kothi :)

Room Tip: !2 cottages and all are good.

Dear Bharti ji,

Thank you very much for your kind feedback. Ramayan truly is a great asset to us; especially as he comes from the rural community. He used to be a Sanskrit teacher in the local school and after some intensive F&B training sessions, and consistent English coaching, he was raring to go! Many of our butlers are from the rural communities around us and so conclusively prove the adage - when hiring, look for the attitude because skills can always be taught. it is such warm feedback from our kind guests likes yourself that keeps us charged up.

It is also great to know that you liked the design of our cottages; we lovingly call it MP chic as it celebrates the local architectural style. We do keep a large part of the property completely undisturbed so that the wild life can use it as a safe corridor; situated as we are between the national park and the wildlife sanctuary.

We hope to welcome you back to Mahua Kothi and other Taj safaris lodges soon.

Warm regards

It has been a memorable trip of two nights. It is a lovely, serene place in the middle of jungle. Each and every staff takes great care of you, be it the butler, the chef, the naturalist or the General Manager. We were greeted with bubble bath with rose petals one night...which was awesome. First night the dinner was laid on Terrace and on second night under the tree with lots of lanterns. A very romantic atmosphere was created. During safaris hot water bottle with blankets are provided. A delicious packed breakfast is carried along. What a way to do the jungle safari ! A fantastic place that is all that I have to say. The Taj hospitality is unbeatable.

Room Tip: All cottages are great ! Try and take closer to main building as you do not have to walk a lot in da...

Dear Rekha ji,

Thank you for such fulsome praise; we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your holiday with us. We do have a great team at Mahua Kothi largely comprising of people from local communities; and all of them passionate about our guests and nature.

At Taj safaris we love to celebrate the local cuisine and the organically grown in-house produce. Add a little bit of love and our enthusiastic & kind guests - we do have the magic formula! With such kind words coming our way, we all enjoy ourselves as much in delighting our guests as the guests themselves!

Looking forward to welcoming you and your family back to Taj safaris!

Warm regards

What a gorgeous place coupled by exceptional service. Our lodge was enormous and even had converters for our American appliances. We also loved the enormous outdoor patio area.
You must take a bubble bath with rose pedals there and use the provided products.
Our butler was out of this world, as was every staff person. Please give a shout out to Bishnu! He anticipated every one of our needs and seemed to be there at every time of day.
We also enjoyed the meals, a picnic lunch and especially the village dinner with the local folks who danced and we danced with them.
The tiger viewing was a bit disappointing. Three out of four of our jeeps did not have good viewings but the naturalilst guides were excellent.
The lodge made up for the disappointing jungle experience. Anyway, it still was an experience.

Dear guest,

Thank you so much for your warm feedback; it is heart warming to get praised for all the small touches our passionate and enthusiastic Mahua Kothi team loves to put in. Bishnu does seem to have the seventh sense (if I could call it that) apart from that mischievous tinkle in his eye.

It is also a great validation of our intensive Africa based training module that you appreciated our naturalist team even though not everyone in your group could see a tiger. Tiger sightings are a matter of chance; and even though Bandhavgarh is world famous for its high tiger densities; sometimes they just might choose to give us humans a miss.

We do hope that the magic of India would invite you back to our world again very soon... and there is another time for the tigers too!

Warm regards,

Our two night stay coincided with unseasonably terrible weather. It poured with rain on every drive and it was extremely cold. But our butler took care of our every need, even an electric blanket to fight the cold. One evening we returned from a drive to find the bath filled with hot bubbles, scattered with flower petals and two gin and tonics beside the bath.

The rooms are very well equipped, the decor very pleasing.

The meals were excellent and you can either eat with other guests or alone, you are not forced into groups.

The drives were good although the guides were not as informative as they could have been.

We would thoroughly recommend it.

Dear Guest,

Greetings from the jungles of Central India and I would like to whole-heartedly thank you for your kind feedback. I am glad that you appreciated our small touches to make your stay comfortable and memorable. We are also happy to note that you appreciated our meals that are inspired by local cuisine and use locally grown organic ingredients.

We have also noted your feedback about the guides; and I am assuming that you are referring to the park guides? Park guides are drawn from local community and usually have a fairly good knowledge of the flora and fauna though they may be limited in their communication skills in English. Our naturalists try and tap into this knowledge to create a good game drive experience. We do work with the park authorities to ever enhance their skill levels.

We do hope that you find another chance to visit India and Indian jungles yet again.

Warm regards,

The service here is so attentive, personal, and perfect, it is hardly to be believed. Complementing main focus--tiger tracking with an excellent naturalist guide, including a delicious picnic breakfast, and hot water bottles to keep you warm--the highlights included picking our own salad for lunch in the garden, and a cooking lesson from the talented chef. (The carrot halwa was amazing!). I recommend just putting yourself in the hands of the lodge’s excellent staff, and letting them take care of you.
The rooms are tasteful, large and comfortable. Don't neglect to spend some time relaxing on your patio and letting the birds come visit you. The spa services were excellent and reasonably priced. We were genuinely touched by the care and friendliness of the staff. When they all turned out to wave us goodbye, we felt like turning back to say, no, we don't want to leave! Thanks to this excellent lodge and its staff for a superb experience.

We stayed at all 4 Taj safari lodges, one in each of the 4 national parks in eastern Madhya Pradesh, and we loved every one. Each is quite different from the others in design, so we never had a sense of deja-vu. Our room at Mahua Kothi was spacious and very comfortable, with a large adjacent dressing area and bathroom with both tub and shower. We also had an enclosed outer courtyard that looks as if it would be a very cool and comfortable place to relax, read and have tea in warm weather. As with the other Taj lodges, we found the staff at Mahua Kothi welcoming and highly professional and the cuisine and service outstanding. And, we did see a tiger here, thanks to our excellent naturalist guide Akash. The birds here are great, and we saw the solitary Indian gazelle as well. Taj will arrange a car and driver to transport you from/to the nearest airport or to another of its lodges.
