“Trip of a lifetime”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

In short, we can't wait to return. The kutiya was perfect in every way, just right for the two of us. Clean, comfortable, cool and luxurious in and out. The lodge dining was excellent, but we also had a few meals in our room and our own private courtyard. Ramayan was awesome, we arrived feeling a bit under the weather and he instantly understood, adjusting to meet our every need. He was so kind and caring, there's not a nicer guy on the planet. He was as excited as we were that we finally felt well enough to enjoy a real meal, and he went to great lengths to prepare a surprise private dinner by candlelight on our last night there. The safari drives into Bandhavgarh National Park were unbelievable! Our naturalist Siddhraj was really excellent, he knows all the in's and out's of the area, and he led us to see FIVE tigers!! We would certainly go back to Mahua Kothi in a minute. Our thanks to the entire staff, it was a perfect and memorable holiday!

Taj - Mahua Kothi is one of the most exotic resorts I've visited of late. Tucked neatly in the BandhavGarh jungle the sprawling property is frequented by wild animals like deer and wild boar.

The independent cottages are exceptionally designed and tastefully furnished. The mud walls give the exact feeling of staying in a village.

Staffs are very courteous and extremely helpful. The 2 days stay there was really a experience that we would like to re-experience again. The beat part was the staff were very homely and never let us feel that we are in some sophisticated 5* property.

Hats off guys. Especially Mr. Gorakh Nath and Mr. Ramayan.

We are happy to read your wonderful review about your experience at Mahua Kothi.
The accommodation is designed keeping in mind the comforts for a discerning traveler.
The team understands the needs of the guests, and endeavors to meet them consistently, be it the lemonade on arrival back form safaris with napkins, or a hot cup of tea before you head out for the morning safari, or a blanket to cut out the chill in the morning safaris. Lot of our guests’ say, that in Mahua Kothi they feel like being at home.
It is such feedback which acts as fuel to performance of our team.

Warm Regards.

Mahua Kothi is a part of the TAJSAFARI set of resorts and is located near the Tala zone of the Bandhavgarh national forest. That in itself is enough for wildlife aficionados, as this zone boasts of the best sightings of the tiger in India.
the nearest airport is Jabalpur and there are daily flights from Mumbai and Delhi ( spice jet). Mahua Kothi will require an additional 4 hr drive from Jabalpur. The drive is pretty scenic except for the last 500 odd km where there is a lot of construction.
the service here is on par with the taj experience elsewhere, personal butler and all. The Chef makes your meals suited to your palate , the naturalists are exceptional and a veritable storehouse of knowledge.
The rooms are mud houses and very rustic, luxuries are not pinched, Air condition works brilliantly and the views are to die for. We had villa no 12 which was the last cottage and most remote.
The Food is great, I could do with a bit more on the breakfast table! but the chef prepares what you want on the fly, so no complaints. lunch and dinners are in the common dining area and you get plenty of chances to interact with the other guests on who sighted what!
the safaris - These are absolutely the best. we had 5 safaris into the tala zone, and saw the tiger 4 out of the 5 times! now, the sighting is never guaranteed and we were lucky , but even without the sighting, the knowledge of siddhraj, our naturalist, is excellent. He knows all the birds by its calls, knows the intimate details of the tigers and other animals in the area and is super passionate about his wildlife. a bit of this passion is bound to rub off on you!
I have also visited the Baghvan resort of the taj safaris earlier and the only reason that this property gets a very good rating instead of an excellent one, is that the baghvan is just a bit more luxurious and enjoyable in terms of the property itself. make no mistake, this does not take anything away from mahua kothi. I will love to visit again if chance offers itself!

Room Tip: room no 1 is at the entrance and close to the safari exit points so if you don't want to walk to...

Dear Guest,
Heartfelt thanks for inscribing your experience in such a detailed way. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
Yes location of Mahua Kothi is a huge plus as well, closely located to the Tala Zone, and having left the surroundings as such, wilderness has taken over Mahua Kothi and one feels as if you are staying in Jungle surroundings.

Chef and his team relentlessly deliver tasty and healthy food.
Congratulations on having great sightings. Our extensive naturalist training program is geared towards ensuring high standards in guiding. I would say we are blessed to have such a wonderful and dedicated team, and such understanding guests.

The teams at Taj Safaris are waiting to welcome you back. No matter which of the four lodges you choose, there are bound to be more pleasant surprises in store for you!

Warm Regards

Mahua Kothi is a stunning Taj/&Beyond property worthy of high praise. The rooms are large and comfortable with a patio just outside with table and chairs and lounging area. Unfortunately it was so hot during our stay we did not take advantage of it. The food is delicious and plentiful beginning with pre-breakfast before leaving for safari, breakfast while on safari, full breakfast on return, lunch, and dinner. Nothing is too much to ask - your wish is their command. We want to thank Raj for a great safari experience, who is so passionate in what he does. Special thanks to Ram who made sure we had plenty to eat, Kingfisher beer in our room at all times, and his delightful happy smile. What a nice surprise returning to our room after safari to a bubble bath with rose pedals, candlelight, and a diet coke with lime. Thank you Ram. We miss all of you and look forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: Room 1 is close to the restaurant, gift shop, and library. Sometimes the internet worked in our roo...

Dear Guest,
Heartfelt thanks for writing about your recent experience in Mahua Kothi. We indeed enjoyed reading your kind feedback, which not only motivates us many folds, but also helps us to identify how to further focus our efforts to ensure that our guests have a delightful experience.
Raj is an asset to our team and his understanding of wildlife, nature, and guest requirements certainly is huge bonus to us and to our guests.
Food is our forte for two reasons, as most of it is a product of our organic farms which ensures the freshness of produce coupled with the right amount of spices and oils makes it very homely. Our Chef takes extra interest in knowing the preferences of our guests and thus tries his best to satiate their diverse palette.
Our team is geared towards guest delight, and they leave no stone unturned to please their guests.
Thank you once again for choosing to stay with us. Looking forward to your next stay with us in future.

Warm Regards,

We stayed at the Mahua Kothi for 3 nights as part of a week of wildlife viewing in Madya Pradesh. It scores top marks without question. Everyone at the lodge was friendly and helpful and they could not have done more to help us enjoy our stay. We were allocated a naturalist who led our trips into Bandhavgarh and really helped us discover the park and not just see the wildlife but understand what we were seeing (and hearing). The lodge itself is comfortable and attractive. The food is varied and beautifully prepared - with plenty of choice and served in different settings, so we always felt we were experiencing something new. We would recommend Mahua Kothi as a base for exploring Bandhavgarh without any reservation.

are just some of the adjectives that come to my mind given a chance i would write many more but then i would simply say the whole experience blew my mind n filled my heart with joy n my eyes with twinkle n my face with a smile. A special thanks to Mr AVDESH for taking such good care of us especially my son will always remember him for the mango juice. Then i would like to mention the chef for being hands on, always to fulfil the demands b it pasta or full Chinese dinner or dosas .Our naturalist MR RAJKISHORE was a warm and friendly person who saw to it that our search for tiger sighting ends at bandhavgarh by showing us tigers on two game drives especially on route no 3 khitholi zone. lastly we would definitely mention MR.SINGH THE GENERAL MANAGER WITHOUT WHOM ALL THIS CARE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE as we believe that he is managing the entire mahua kothi quiet beautifully by not demanding but earning respect from his colleagues as well as the guests. At least we have never seen the manager standing at the gates at the time of arrival and departure with warm greetings for the guests.

From your welcome to the farewell, this stay was wonderful. EXCEPTIONALLY attentive staff ensuring your every need catered for, discussing food preferences and cooking anything you desire - the incredibly experienced chef here definitely a hidden gem in India!

Our little cottage was rustic and sweet; much larger than we had anticipated, really homely and seemingly private. A cosy stay, comfortable sleep and with the early morning 'safari time' wake up from the squirrels rustling about on the roof top, followed by the gentle 'good morning' knock on your door from the wake up call staff, a blissful experience. Wi fi, should you need it, is complimentary from the adjoining library area. Recommend a neck bandana to wear along dusty tracks.

Safaris here were good though Area 1 (there are 3), in our opinion, definitely better for diversity of terrain and sightings. It seems tickets need to be booked in advance with confirmed passport reference numbers, which are stringently matched every morning prior to park entry (new system introduced to reduce numbers of jeeps in park at one time, multiple ticket purchasing etc ...) - our travel company had arranged this but sadly some guests, having booked themselves, were not aware of procedures and missed some park entries as tickets unavailable. Presently, Area 1 tickets the most sought.

Special thanks to Bhola, our 'butler' - his welcoming smile will remain with us always.
