The first thought that strikes is the concern of the hosts for your safety and travel. Mr Upreti (Senior) called to keep us informed of the state of the road as it was raining and he was worried on us getting stuck. The whole family is warm and makes you feel as if you are part of the family. The property is amazing and for those who love nature no need to step out at all .There are enough places to enjoy the mountain, the old hanging bridge, stream, river and not to mention the green house. We were visiting at the time when the whole family was there and had the chance to even have spot dance lessons and impromptu party with their granddaughter. Even though we are from Uttrakhand we didn't know of the Harela festival and added that to our understanding of our home state. My mom who is old and has trouble with walking was well taken care of and Both the Aunty's spent time chatting with her while we took our walks down to the river and the the bridge. Don't want to miss out on Blackie who ensured we were escorted and showed us the way incase we got lost. For those who are non veg lovers ..I must say this is a place where you must decide on food for the soul vs food for the stomach.
We spent 2 days at Silent Valley during our 2-week travelling in Uttarakhand...and we couldnt have asked for a better start of our holidays. We are nature lover and here it is the perfect place to relax, to go for river walking, to do birdwatching or just to enjoy the peaceful surrounding sitting under the giant mango tree.
Amit and his family make this place even more special, with their kindness and knowledge of the area. Amit helped us to arrange for our train ticket and our transfer to the next destination, he guided us for a beautiful river walk and for a nice trekking to the old village & temple, he told us stories of the areas, showed us his fields with vegetables and the farm they are building to make their own cheese and dairies.
The food served under the mango tree was also delicious.
What more can you ask for?
We will definitely go back if travelling again to Uttarakhand!
Some holidays are not just holidays they leave indelible memories to cherish for ever. A single night spent here is one such memory. I along with my teenage children was going to Binsar and since we did not want to make our journey hectic, we decided to make stopover at Bhimtal. We we very clear that we wanted to stay away from main town and looked for home stay. Going through Trip advisor, I came across this place called the "Silent valley" which claimed to give you real home stay experience. I called at the contact number and spoke, to Amit, whose family owns this place. He came across very pleasing to talk to you and I could feel the warmth in his voice and it took me no time to confirm our arrival. The 100acre farm owned by Upreti family is on the banks of Kasna river. The place is 6/7km away from the main Taal and on the road to Padampuri. Getting there took us some time but once there all our exhaustion vanished. We were welcomed by Lalitji, (Amit's father) very enthusiastically. His dog- Blacky too was delighted to see us as if we were meeting long lost friend. Though the house was old it was nicely maintained. The toilets were separate but modern and clean. We had arrived in the afternoon and spent meeting and chatting up with family and going around the farm. With no TV and poor mobile connectivity we spent time playing badminton and chatting. We shared so much and they made us feel part of their family. After Excellent home cooked kumaonifood at 9pm we retired to our room. The next day we were up early morning and accompanied by Blacky went around exploring the vast place...organic farm, poly house, dairy farm, vami compost well, school etc. We spent good amount of time at the riverside before returning for sumptuous breakfast. After breakfast Lalitji showed us the beehive and shared interesting sting insight into the lives of bees. It was truly one of the highlights. Soon the time had come to say goodbye and it was very touching as the entire family gathered. I can't thank enough his son Ajay, grandson Anish(Amit's son), his nephew Naveen and of course his wife. I would also like to thank Hemraj-the cook. This was truly unforgettable experience.
We were traveling with our family members in a group of 9 members which included 2 elders and 1 kid too. When we were planning for our trip we came across The Silent Valley Home Stay and decided to opt for it as something different, something offbeat and off the beaten path than normal hotels and resorts etc.
And our stay there exceeded our expectations. The genuiness and warmth of the hosts, the courteousness of the staff, the expanse of the place, it's gardens, Trek's to the river, through the farms, the bonfire at night, star gazing in clear night, the sumptuous food and the sounds of nature, the knowledgeable sessions by Mr. Upreti on Beehive's, Vermi Compost, Biogas... I am literally out of words to express our joy and gratitude of having visited this place. There is something for everyone..and there's more.
All I can summarize is :
Come and visit a place which will take you back in time,
Come and visit a homestay which will remind you of your ancestral houses,
Come and visit a farm at the foot of the mountains and beside the river,
Come and experience the golden days of the bygone silent era,
Come and fall in LOVE with "The Silent Valley Home Stay"
.... more than a homestay, your home.
Hat's off to the Upreti Family.
Me and my spouse often plan quick getaways to offbeat destinations and it was while planning for one such trip that I chanced upon this beautiful and serene place called the Silent Valley. My first interaction with Amit Upreti and I felt assured that I would be visiting a place close to my heart. What impressed me was his honesty about what to expect in the property.
We were given a warm welcome by Lalit uncle, his son Ajay and Blacky-the ever enthusiastic labrador.Though we opted to stay in the cottage instead of the bungalow,it turned out to be a cozy little place.Uncle, aunty and Ajay were the perfect hosts. We were lucky to be invited to dine with the family and were treated with an array of Kumaoni cuisine. The dishes were both delicious and nutritious.
The Silent Valley lives up to its name. One wakes up in the morning to the chirping of a variety of birdsThere are many activites to keep you occupied. If your interest is in farming then you can enjoy taking a walk to the fields or you can laze by the crystal clear waters of the river Kalsa.Treking and horse riding are other options. If you are a person who loves to relax then you can remain in the property simply doing nothing with Blacky as a constant companion. At night one can enjoy Lalit uncle's interesting stories by the bonfire.Uncle is a storehouse of knowledge in beekeeping.
Our stay ended on a wonderful note with holi celebrations.I carry with me fond memories of this beautiful place and a loving family, with a promise of returning back.Last but not the least this review would be incomplete without a mention of the very courteous and helpful staff.
I was looking for some off beat location to spend some quality time and came to know about this Home Stay. The fact that it is over 100 years old with traditional architecture itself was attractive.
I reached there in the morning around 7 am. Normally hotels give rooms only by noon. Here, Mr. Ajay, son of Mr. Upredi, the owner of the home stay was waiting at the road itself to take us in. They served us with nice masala tea, which was so great on that chilly morning.
The highlight of the trip was being with this wonderful family. They just treat us like their own family member. There is no question asked or said about money. Whatever requests we made, was provided without even a single word. Cooking our own food along with the madam was a wonderful experience in learning their cuisine.
There is a river flowing down below with crystal clear water. A great place for a nice dip. You walk through their organic farms to reach the river. A real village experience is that they have everything a village have in their own property. The class by Mr. Upredi on bee-keeping was very educative. Seeing cows reminds me about my young age.
Mr. Ajay took me also for a trek to Karkotak, a very hilly area. The trek was awesome. Having packed lunch at the summit was a wonderful experience before descending the hill. I feel descending was much tougher than climbing.
Overall, this place is a HEAVEN and everyone should visit the place and experience the warmth hospitality and love of Mr. Upredi and family.
Oops, my review cannot be complete without mentioning BLACKY....a pure black loving dog who is soo brainy to understand who is the guest and who are not!!. He was with me all the time, wagging his tail, showing his love. Love you blacky!!!
Planning frequent visit to this HEAVEN
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND "SILENT VALLEY" TO ALL
This is a great homestay to feel the pulse of Kumaon and its wonderful people. We were a group of 6 adults and two children traveling to see hills during monsoon. We reached pretty late due to road blockage and the owners were so generous to escort us from Bhimtal! Next day our vehicle got stuck and the back up arrangement was provided by them at very short notice. The hospitality was very homely. Would love to go back again.
