“Peace, you will find it here - No matter what”
Reviewed 25 June 2018 for a stay in June 2018

A perfect getaway weekend trip. If you are looking for a peaceful and beautiful stay away from the urban chaos, this is the place you are looking for. The host is the icing on the cake, A perfect host. My kids really enjoyed the stay, No TVs and whole lot of place to play. The tree-house, the age old stone mansion, cows, farm and a small river flowing nearby, what more you need. I missed those waterfalls, I plan to visit again this place in monsoon or in winter so that I can witness those small waterfalls.
Thanks to our host Ajay, Uncle and entire family & staff. Amit you too were fabulous in making sure we reached the place without any hickups.

All I can say is 'A memorable trip' to remember forever.

“Forget 5 star luxury, you will get much more at the Silent Valley”
Reviewed 24 June 2018 for a stay in June 2018

The Silent Valley provides a real homestay experience and the best of Indian hospitality. We had been to other Homestays previously but none of the families were as affable and sweet as this one. Nothing is rushed in this place and everything moves at a leisurely pace to give you a truly relaxing vacation. The patriarch Mr Upreti is a sweet man, with many stories and experience to share. So is his entire family, entirely dedicated to making our stay a pleasant one. Helps are very well trained to provide real hospitality. Food, though only vegetarian, is full of variety and we overate on all days. You can order eggs if you cannot manage in vegetarian food alone. Vegetables are sourced from their farm and you can taste the freshness in the food. All In all, an enjoyable and pleasant experience. Even if you forget all other things, the warm hospitality provided by the Upreti family will take us to this place one more in future.

“Simple loving people”
Reviewed 13 June 2018 for a stay in October 2017

Amit works in Delhi and visits Chanfi every opportunity he gets. He also takes his son Amish age 5 along with him who loves their village as much Amit. So Amish wakes up at 5.30am( happily, no crying ) puts on his little shoes, jumps on his uncle's shoulders and off they go to the cowshed where Amish tries to outdo everything the uncle does
Navin has left the city and lives in Chanfi where he milks cows sings, Gadhwali songs, and stays happy. He converses with the cows while he washes/walks/feeds/milks the cows.
There is another cowshed in the main house in the basement which is looked after by Amit's mom. She is quite business-like in going about doing her bit with the cows since she has tons of other things to attend to, but I know that she loves and treats them as family members.
Which brings us to the dog - Blackie. Actually he should be called ' gulab jamun' or 'fevicol'.
The patriarch, Mr Upreti, a simple, warm person who supervises the big farm where they grow all kinds of vegetables. Ajay, Amit's younger brother helps his dad and does all the heavy lifting. Ajay is a quintessential villager - hardworking, authentic and shy.
You will like this place if you like to walk, to relax and take it easy

“A place in the midst of nature ,a place where you can get away from the noise and really hear your own thoughts.”
Reviewed 16 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

The first thought that strikes is the concern of the hosts for your safety and travel. Mr Upreti (Senior) called to keep us informed of the state of the road as it was raining and he was worried on us getting stuck. The whole family is warm and makes you feel as if you are part of the family. The property is amazing and for those who love nature no need to step out at all .There are enough places to enjoy the mountain, the old hanging bridge, stream, river and not to mention the green house. We were visiting at the time when the whole family was there and had the chance to even have spot dance lessons and impromptu party with their granddaughter. Even though we are from Uttrakhand we didn't know of the Harela festival and added that to our understanding of our home state. My mom who is old and has trouble with walking was well taken care of and Both the Aunty's spent time chatting with her while we took our walks down to the river and the the bridge. Don't want to miss out on Blackie who ensured we were escorted and showed us the way incase we got lost. For those who are non veg lovers ..I must say this is a place where you must decide on food for the soul vs food for the stomach.

We spent 2 days at Silent Valley during our 2-week travelling in Uttarakhand...and we couldnt have asked for a better start of our holidays. We are nature lover and here it is the perfect place to relax, to go for river walking, to do birdwatching or just to enjoy the peaceful surrounding sitting under the giant mango tree.
Amit and his family make this place even more special, with their kindness and knowledge of the area. Amit helped us to arrange for our train ticket and our transfer to the next destination, he guided us for a beautiful river walk and for a nice trekking to the old village & temple, he told us stories of the areas, showed us his fields with vegetables and the farm they are building to make their own cheese and dairies.
The food served under the mango tree was also delicious.
What more can you ask for?
We will definitely go back if travelling again to Uttarakhand!

“Unforgettable experience”
Reviewed 2 July 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Some holidays are not just holidays they leave indelible memories to cherish for ever. A single night spent here is one such memory. I along with my teenage children was going to Binsar and since we did not want to make our journey hectic, we decided to make stopover at Bhimtal. We we very clear that we wanted to stay away from main town and looked for home stay. Going through Trip advisor, I came across this place called the "Silent valley" which claimed to give you real home stay experience. I called at the contact number and spoke, to Amit, whose family owns this place. He came across very pleasing to talk to you and I could feel the warmth in his voice and it took me no time to confirm our arrival. The 100acre farm owned by Upreti family is on the banks of Kasna river. The place is 6/7km away from the main Taal and on the road to Padampuri. Getting there took us some time but once there all our exhaustion vanished. We were welcomed by Lalitji, (Amit's father) very enthusiastically. His dog- Blacky too was delighted to see us as if we were meeting long lost friend. Though the house was old it was nicely maintained. The toilets were separate but modern and clean. We had arrived in the afternoon and spent meeting and chatting up with family and going around the farm. With no TV and poor mobile connectivity we spent time playing badminton and chatting. We shared so much and they made us feel part of their family. After Excellent home cooked kumaonifood at 9pm we retired to our room. The next day we were up early morning and accompanied by Blacky went around exploring the vast place...organic farm, poly house, dairy farm, vami compost well, school etc. We spent good amount of time at the riverside before returning for sumptuous breakfast. After breakfast Lalitji showed us the beehive and shared interesting sting insight into the lives of bees. It was truly one of the highlights. Soon the time had come to say goodbye and it was very touching as the entire family gathered. I can't thank enough his son Ajay, grandson Anish(Amit's son), his nephew Naveen and of course his wife. I would also like to thank Hemraj-the cook. This was truly unforgettable experience.
