Nestled in the Kumaon hills, hidden midway between Almora and Kausani, this resort is an absolute delight for nature lovers. I stayed here along with my wife and parents in May 2014, while on our way to Chaukori. We got two floors of beautiful wooden cottage with mud plastered walls and a secret stair connecting the two levels. We enjoyed going up and down this narrow, squeaking wooden stair.
The staff was very courteous and helpful. Mr. Francis, the manager called us a day before and gave us directions. The way he greeted us, we felt as if we were being received by an old relative at his house. His cute dog was such a darling, he played with us and accompanied us when we went for sight seeing. The hotel staff even provided food for our driver at a nominal cost of Rs. 200, which is important as there is hardly any place close by where a driver can eat.The food was signature V resort style, simple, healthy and delicious.
We got to see a lot of birds in the resort. They also have a selection of indoor and outdoor games. Like the other V resort locations, this is great resort at reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend it to others.

We wanted to plan for a family trip during the summer vacations and after a lot of deliberations finally ended up on the week of 15th June.
We were looking for a place which was away from the crowded markets and had everything within the campus so that the family can sit down and relax. After looking around a lot of web content we closed in on V Resorts. Though we were sceptical about the place since what you see on the web is not what you eventually get.
We started off from Ghaziabad and taking a night halt at moradabad we reached the place which is 25.5 km from Almora on the kausani highway around 1500 hrs. Mr. Francis who is the manager called us up to our surprise to check on is and ensure we don't lose the way. Nice gesture, since I hadn't expected this and not experienced this as well in my earlier trips to other places.
The resort is another 4km from the main road right in the middle of the valley. It ia surrounded by forests from all side. Has a variety of rooms and we took the duplex which has 2 bed rooms. The rooms were well equipped with all facilities incl coolers. We were surprised to find satellite TV and the kids loved it. Mr Francis knew that we might want lunch and he had got a sumptuous lunch prepared for us. We were surprised but happy to see that there was no other establishment and this was as perfect a place we were looking for.
The resort has a good ante room with bunch of games and lot of reading material in which is very useful if you are not carrying your material. It has a volleyball court as well which my kids used to play badminton.
The resort is well looked after. The rooms are cleaned everyday and bath rooms are clean with geysers. The resort also has a generator as backup which was useful since we had a little storm which resulted in power cuts.
The USP of this resort is it's staff and the food. Amazing food. Wide variety even in a place 25 km from the heart of the city.
People who want detox vacations should go for it. People who want exclusive time with their family away from the noise and crowds shud go there. If you area die hard mall freak please forget this place.

The resort had a common dining hall which

V resorts Almora, also known as Pugs Paw Eco Retreat, located at about twenty five kilometers from the town of Almora in the Kumauni Himalayas was indeed a treat. Spent three nights there with friends, starting from 11th May 2014. The photos that we had seen of the resort before leaving Delhi were no doubt beautiful. One is however always apprehensive that reality might prove otherwise. What we witnessed on arriving at our destination, following a four and a half hour drive from Kathgodam railway station surpassed our expectations!
The warm welcome extended to us by Mr. Francis and his staff further added to the exhilaration!
The V resort Almora nestled amongst pine trees and surrounded by hills is isolated and has a rustic touch about it, the rooms being made of wood and mud. Its simplicity is absolutely in sync with the still unspoilt ethereal surroundings. At a distance of three kilometers from the nearest village, it is a perfect get away for those in search of peace and tranquility. The area boasts of a lovely forest cover.
The walks along the near deserted roads, the chirping of birds, and the silence were indeed divine. A trek of about fifteen minutes up the hill form the property is more than worth it. What we saw, on arriving at the top mesmerized us. There, stood before us in majestic splendour, the snow clad peaks of the Himalayan range caressed by the golden rays of the setting sun. A sight to behold!
. A short trek through the forested narrow mountain paths took us to a spot from where we saw a tiny little pool created by a waterfall. Our guide also showed us a cave, home to a leopard!! It was kind of exciting.
Equally fascinating was to watch at leisure a little birdie in a cleverly hidden nest in the foliage of a tree, being fed by its mother. I could go on and on…
The very well prepared homely food was served with a lot of care. The effort was evident from the variety provided. .
In the rooms the sheets, the towels and the quilts were spotless.
Not to forget Mr. Francis’s four footed companion, the ever alert Jimmy running here and there at any sound and taking up position to chase away a langur or welcome one of the inmates back to the resort.
I would however like to make a little suggestion. It would be nice to upgrade the lounge in the retreat so that it may be in harmony with the rest of the place.
Also worth mentioning are the beautiful plants and trees which dot the entire property and add to its loveliness and of course the kitchen garden which supplies part of the vegetables that find their way to the table!! Was indeed impressed to learn that Mr. Fracis and his team took care of it all.
Three cheers for Mr. Francis and his staff. All so dedicated and helpful!

Room Tip: The rooms are at three levels. The lowest level is where one has the dining room as well. More suitable for slightly older people and those with young children perhaps! The two rooms right at the top, one over the other are connected through a trap door !!!

We have been there recently for our office trip as an annual outing. To be honest if you are looking for a decent property in budget sense then you wont be disappointed. Therefore don't expect a huge & crowded resort in a typical hill station supported by crowded staff, luxurious facilities, lavish & exotic food, one call away room service else you would be seriously disappointed. But if you are looking for a decent property with basic amenities, plain simple Indian food, little bit of activities like Trekking, fishing, volley ball court etc then this is good enough. The location is cool midst quiet mountains of Almora with sounds of bird chirping, just trek down the adjacent peak and you may have good view of snow peaks of Nanda Devi etc. Only limitation is availability of only Indian food, as chef tried Chinese but failed miserable with below average quality, and fried rice was just left over turned into. Anyways overall the experience was ok and value for money with a special mention of polite staff & Mr. Francis who managed the property.

Room Tip: most of them are same except the one on top at entry which quiet big & spacious.

The location of the resort is awesome, far from the madding crowd, quiet, invisible and set amidst temperate chir forest interspersed with undulating meadows on the Almora Hills, .... the nearest habitation is a small non-descript village, 3 km away on the main Almora-Someshwar Road. The greatest strength of the resort is its isolated and quiet location, away from crowded, noisy and congested hill stations like Almora and Nainital.

The views of snow-clad Himalayas and Nanda Devi peak is mind-blowing ..... one can sit or lay for hours, throughout the day, gazing at the splendorous and panoramic views, sipping a variety of beverages. Almora, Kausani and Ranikhet are all equidistant (about 30 km each) ..... within an hours reach.

The resort has excellent eco-friendly rooms made of wood and mud, coupled with very-personalized services of staff including manager Mr. Charles Francis .... and his friendly doggy named Jimmy, who endeared himself to my two kids. We stayed for three nights, but would have had loved to stay for a week.

We got custom made breakfast, evening snacks and dinner ..... and all the dishes were marvellous!!! The evening dinner was a full-course buffet meal starting with soup, the main-course comprising one non-veg item and three veg item, rice, naan, salad, and ending with dessert. Surprisingly, in the three days .... none of the items was ever repeated in breakfast or dinner. They also provide sleeping space and all meals for your driver at a nominal rate of merely Rs. 500 per day.

The resort is about 400 km from Dwarka in southwest Delhi, and the travel time including breaks and rest is almost 11-12 hours, if travelling with kids and family. So one must start early, preferably at 4 am.

Room Tip: The room adjacent to the parking is at the highest point, receives sunlight throughout the day, and gives excellent view of the entire resort, valley and surrounding hills and forest. This room is also a Dupleix, with a ladder connecting the lower and upper level. The resort is well lighted at night and movement is not difficult.
