1. The room has one power socket only, and used by TV. Can't charge phone. This is superior room.

2. Bathroom water heater either super hot or cold. Can't adjust. Need 5 minutes to let water flow first.

3. Restaurant is terrible - I sat for 15 minutes, didn't get menu. Local beside me get menu. Food is drained with oil. Waitress at night sour face like I owe her money. Day time, they use broom to hit on flies on the table. Restaurant full of kretek smell, disgusting.

4. I asked for taxi and they arranged for illegal taxi. What the....?

5. Building has no exit signages in case of fire.

Can't find anything good about this place. Sorry.

Will not stay again.

I dont think this hotel as bad as what people talking about in those previous comments. I am a guest coming to kupang for business travel. this hotel interior is not as nice as those expensive hotel but it is quite clean and the breakfast is good. its location is very strategic for those coming for business, since its located in one of kupang's main street, so maybe its quite noisy in the morning. when i came, i was offered standard room which was the most cheap rate, but then i thought the room was too standard so i changed to superior room which was only Rp 50.000 different. this room was much better since it had larger space. i had tried other hotel in kupang, the service was not as good as what i thought i should get by paying those high price. So far, i still think sylvia is the one i recommend for those who has limited budget. off course, dont expect 5 star facilities if you want to pay less.

Room Tip: choose superior room for larger room.

Having lived in Indonesia for many years this is saying a lot!!!! My friend and I had the absolute misfortune of ATTEMPTING to stay at the Sylvia Hotel in Kupang not so long ago while making our way to and from Alor. My friend saw an advertisement for the hotel at the airport and thought it looked like a good option. WRONG!

The Sylvia Hotel is a hovel posing as a business hotel. We checked in at around 8am and left at noon - a mere four hours later. I've stayed in places in Indonesia for less than three dollars that had more to offer than this sorry excuse for accommodation. The location is terrible. There is absolutely nothing around the hotel worth going outside for unless you enjoy noise and pollution. It has the ambiance of a prison. There are no windows in the hallways and the window in our room looked out half a metre to the wall of the building being constructed next door. The lobby was nightclub thick of kretek smoke, the restaurant didn't have half the food on the menu, the beds were uncomfortable, the toilet didn't work, the elevator took you to the wrong floors, and the walls of the room were decorated with the splattered guts of bugs long since squished. The receptionist (who we aptly named Miss Congeniality) was about as friendly as a rabid pitbull. And finally, the place was teeming with roaches - I don't mind the odd roach here and there but this place was ridiculous. After killing the king of roaches my friend and I said enough is enough, packed up our stuff, walked out the front door, and jumped into a cab after being there for less than 4 hours. STAY AWAY!!!!

For a similar priced but better option try Hotel Sasando. Eventhough it is a bit isolated on a hillside between the downtown area and the seaside, it has clean, quiet, modern rooms, friendly and helpful staff, a pool that could use some repair but still clean and relaxing, and an outdoor restaurant that serves decent food and cold beer to be enjoyed whilst taking in the sunset over the ocean.

For a much cheaper option, try Hotel Maliana which is located almost right on the seaside. It has decent rooms but not so great bathrooms. The location is prime as it is almost across the street from Lavalon which is a great place to hangout, have some cold beer, breathe fresh air and use their free WiFi. Further down the street is the night market which offers a variety of local food stalls at can't be beat prices.

Good luck in Kupang!!!!

Room Tip: If you want a good room, don't stay here.

When I traveled to Kupang years a go. I trapped in one Hotel named Sylvia.

The hotel is very standard, just for sleep. Yes, the staff is very nice (the know me because) but interior of the hotel is disaster!

The door can not be open, the lock was broken and no room for me.

The bathroom is standard. Nothing is special.

The pros of this hotel is about the place. This hotel has a strategic place for us to travel around Kupang.

Just it, the breakfast is poor.
:(

Room Tip: Your lucky day.

As soon as I checked in, the staff gave me a room on the third floor. I stayed here for two nights. The first night around 8 PM, you can hear noise from meeting room on the fourth floor. I can hear shoes tapping the floor, people running and yelling. In the following morning, I asked if they can sound proof it as I could not sleep well. What happened on the second night, it got worse. The noise was even more severe, louder and did not only stop 8 PM but was louder and longer (10+PM plus). When I complained the reception only asked other staff to calm it down Virtually, I really could sleep well till the morning ....real sickening hotel

It's a standard business hotel, so it's never going to be that wonderful, but Sylvia is a decent, safe, clean hotel. It has free wireless Internet, good laundry service, room cleaned well each day. Breakfasts good, although not that varied (we were there for ten days though). Good central location on several bemo routes so easy to get to and from. Helpful staff at the front can arrange good taxis for you. Two hints. Don't get a room at the front of the hotel, the bemos start running early, and they are noisy. Second, learn some Bahasa Indonesian (which you will need anyway if you are venturing as far as Kupang) very few of the staff speak English. But they are all happy to engage in games of charades when the limits of your Bahasa Indonesian are reached, till you both understand each other;-) Oh yes - they must have fixed any bed bug problems if there were any. Neither of the rooms my colleague and I were in had any signs of them (we are medical microbiologists, we knew what we were looking for!).
